A new host and a new/old AdministratorPosted: 02 Jun 2016, 01:11 by bonelifer

For some time tumba25 has wanted to get out of hosting the site and phpBB in general. After some considerable thought I've agreed to take over hosting and operations of the site. tumba25 has transferred the domain, IRC channel ownership, Github Repository ownership and private website repo ownership to me. Currently Rich is still fixing bugs in the modders extensions on Github. I've completed the domain transfer process with our domain company and have transitioned the site to my own web hosting.

With the future in mind, I've decided it was best to to ditch the old website module system. This means all the other stuff you're used to seeing in the menu are currently gone as they were tied into the site using the old website module system. As of right now this site is running phpBB 3.1. As time allows I hope to replace a portion of the functionality through phpBB extensions.

Github announcement and Request for coders/stylersPosted: 07 Feb 2015, 18:05 by bonelifer

With the future in mind, we've split up our mods and extensions on Github into two separate organizations. This will help everyone find them easier, since they won't be lumped together in one group. Going forward mods will no longer have new functionality added, only security fixes will be made to them. These security fixes will only be made within the EOL(end-of-life) timeline of the phpBB 3.0.x line.

Extensions now reside in the "phpBBModders" organization:
https://github.com/phpbbmodders

phpBB 3.0 Modifications can be found at the new "phpbbmodders-30x-mods" organization:
https://github.com/phpbbmodders-30x-mods

Porting of 3.0.x mods to 3.1.x extensions is well underway, but going slower than we'd like. For awhile we've been thinking of adding new team members to help with moving to extensions. With so many potentially talented coders we thought it best to put this out in an announcement rather than trying to PM/email everyone. Having knowledge of any of the following: PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, and styling(UI) would help. We particularly need someone knowledgeable in graphics and styling(UI).

Steps to Apply for consideration
Please use the Contact page to apply. Then choose "Join the team" as the reason. Provide a brief description of your skill-set, and if possible examples of styles or mods/extensions you've worked on.

phpbbmodders.net + rmcgirr83.org = truePosted: 31 Dec 2014, 17:48 by tumba25

Hello Everyone,

As you can see by now phpBBModders and RMcGirr83.org have merged. We want to thank everyone who has used both sites over the years and have made each site great. We hope you continue to visit and make this website great going into the future.

If you had an account at both sites and the username/email matched then the accounts will have been automatically merged together. For these automerged accounts, your phpbbmodders.net password will be used. If either username/email was different between the two sites, then you can request to have the accounts manually merged, just tell us which accounts and what account you wish to keep. For those that had the same username at both boards, but different emails, the merged RMcGirr83 account will have a "_2" added to it. For those of you that only had an account at RMcGirr83.org then all you need to do is use those login credentials.

At phpbbModders we use the chat of the Geeks, IRC. Our IRC logger has been reinstated after an 18 month absence. It can be found at http://phpbbmodders.net/about/irclogs and currently only logs our #modders chat channel. We use the Freenode IRC network at irc.freenode.net.
You can visit via their webchat at http://webchat.freenode.net?channels=%23modders&uio=d4 and enter a username and answer the captcha. You can also connect using a dedicated IRC client:

Quassel IRC http://quassel-irc.org/ -- Windows/Linux/OS X

HexChat https://hexchat.github.io/ -- Windows/Linux/OS X

Change in Announcement forum permissionsPosted: 31 Dec 2014, 17:46 by bonelifer

As of now regular users can no longer reply directly to topics in the announcement forum. All announcements will have a link to a topic created for discussing the announcement in the General Discussion forum. This was done to facilitate users to be able to subscribe to the announcement forum and not receive emails about replies.

We have moved.Posted: 22 Sep 2012, 20:24 by tumba25

This site has moved to a server in Sweden due to much downtime at the previous host.

You will see phpbbmodders.org in the address bar until the domain redirection has gone through at your ISP. When that is done you will see .net in the address bar again. Do not update any bookmarks, this domain is only temporary for at most 48 hours.

I have not changed cookie domain so you will see the anoying sid=xx in the address bar too for a while. And autologin will not work until your host has updated their data.

Sorry for the inconvience and hope the site will be more stable now.
/Jari

This site is moving.Posted: 14 Jun 2012, 14:06 by tumba25

This site will be moving later tonight (UTC). It will be down while I move the database, that should only take a few minutes but in any case less than one hour.

Redirection of the domain (phpbbmodders.net) might take up to 48 hours and you will be redirected to phpbbmodders.net until it has gone through for you. Do not update any bookmarks. Cookies will also not work while you are redirected to .org. When the redirection has gone through for you everything will be as the move had never happened, sort of.

Welcome to the new server.

/Jari

New Features, Changes and New Team MembersPosted: 03 May 2011, 23:24 by bonelifer

We are proud to announce that you can now download our mods directly from our website. We've been working on a download page which would also allow users to download both the stable(validated at phpBB.com) and development branches of our mods.

Since our site owner is tumba25 the current phpBB team member/maintainer of the phpBB3 QuickInstall tool, we thought we'd throw phpBB3 QuickInstall up here incase anyone hadn't heard of it. A little history lesson, and a thanks go out to igorw the original Modders owner and originator of phpBB3 QuickInstall (formerly a Modders project). Enjoy!!!

More website cleanup as we add new features and redesign the site further. The old IRC client has been removed and the IRC Logs have now been moved to a submenu on the About page.

We'd also like to welcome our newest team member Steve© to the Modders Modifications team.

New Features and ToolsPosted: 13 Mar 2011, 15:21 by bonelifer

IRC LOGS

Over the last few months we have been working on fixing bugs/adding features to the IRC bot (PHP-IRC) we use in our IRC chat room on Freenode. Recently we have been able to finish the online interface to these IRC logs. The web interface now supports URLS and board smilies. After selecting the room or date, the page will automatically refresh. We've been testing the online interface for several weeks. and after great initial success and reports from various users it has come along nicely and was recently formally opened up for use by board users.
The following public rooms are being monitored currently:
#modders
#phpbb-coding
#phpbb-dev

The website IRC log interface can be found at (MENU: ABOUT -->> IRC logs):
http://phpbbmodders.net/about/irclogs/

Pastebin

After much work by former and current MOD team members the Modders Pastebin, which has been around a while, has been brought back to the main menu for full public consumption. Most recently all pastes by a guest have been made completely private meaning they can only be seen by staff or if the guest has the original direct URL. This has been done to stop or hinder abuse by spammers and they are therefore not index-able by search engines. For registered users that are logged in, we have implemented the ability to see both your public and private pastes at http://phpbbmodders.net/pastebin/ on the left hand side via their respective links.

New tools

We're are always looking to add useful tools to the website or mods/snippets to our forums. This time around we have created two tools that can help aide both mod writers and users.
Unix time converter
(http://phpbbmodders.net/tools/unix_time/)
This tool allows you to convert unix timestamps (seconds since 1970-01-01, 00:00:00) to a readable date or a date to a unix timestamp. This is a fairly straight forward process where you select your timezone in the drop-down list. Then enter a timestamp or a date. The only field that is required in the date is the year, the rest can be empty. If left empty month and day will be 01 and hour, minute and second will be 00.
Password generator
(http://phpbbmodders.net/tools/password/)
As the name implies this tool generates random passwords. You simply select what characteristics you want to use: lowercase letters (a-z), uppercase letters (A-Z), numbers (1-9) and/or special characters (!&%#...), then choose the number of characters in the password and click on the Generate button. The uppercase letter O and 0 (zero) are not used because of their similarity.

Scammer claiming to be a phpBB developerPosted: 11 Mar 2011, 13:10 by RMcGirr83

It has been a recurring theme that people are getting emails with something along these lines.
Hello,

We stronglly recommend that you update your phpBB forum to the latest secure version 3.0.8

For any assisstance please reply to us , we will be very happy to assisst you .

Thank you
and
Hi
We are professional phpbb forums designers and developpers. We have a long experience in the field of designing new unique styles for your forum and installing different MODs which make the use of your forum easier than before.
we provide paid services , and it is a pleasure to tell you that our prices are the lowest among all service providers.
There have been multiple reports at phpbb.com that the individuals or organizations behind the messages above perform consistently sub-par work and refuse to issue refunds to unsatisfied customers.

Please remember some good practices when searching for a developer. Most of these apply when hiring any independent contractor.

Read the email
Many professional people will not make spelling mistakes, such as the above quoted emails, in their correspondence to you. It is completely unprofessional. I mean if the sender can't even spell correctly......

Internet Detective
Run a Google search on the name of the individual or company. You can also search for the contact email address. This is a simple way of finding reviews or complaints by previous customers.

Ask for references
You should never be embarrassed to request references. Ask for a short list of websites that the person/organization has worked on. For larger projects or if you want to be thorough, ask for contact emails and ask the previous customers for their opinions on the contractor.

Don't pay up front
At least, not the entire cost of the project. Half before, half after is a good policy for reputable or recommended organizations. Never feel pressured to pay first.

Trust your instincts
Does the price sound realistic? Did this person contact you out of the blue?

Be careful when handing out credentials
Only give server access to people you trust. Create new accounts whenever possible and give them only the absolutely necessary permissions. Delete the accounts and change all passwords when the work is complete.

Please be careful when choosing someone to do installs, upgrades, etc. as there are many unscrupulous types out there.
