Copic Colouring on Kraft - Tutorial

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago I said I would post my copic colouring on kraft tutorial, so here goes.... I have probably put in far too many steps, but I didn't want to miss anything out!!!

Step 1: I stamped Princess Lizzy onto Joy Craft’s Kraft coloured cardstock using memento tuxedo black ink. When colouring with copics on kraft I would advise that you use a scrap piece to test your colours before you use them on your image as the kraft card alters the tone of your copic colours. Also, when testing your colours, leave them a moment as they lighten up when they dry.

Firstly, I always start by colouring the skin tones and I begin with my lightest colour which is E000. Lay down your colour where all the dark shadows will be and leave the area which will be lightest uncoloured.

Step 2: Next add E00 and go over the area you have just coloured.

Step 3: Add a little E11 to the areas which will be in shadow.

Step 4: Using your E00, blend your E11 using small feather strokes. Finally, using your E000, blend out your E00 and colour over the area that you have previously left uncoloured. Repeat this process for all the skin areas.

Step 5: For the hair, once again, I start with my lightest colour which is E50. Lay down your colour using fine strokes where the darkest parts will be. When colouring hair always do your strokes in the direction the hair would grow.

Step 6: Next, using fine strokes, go over your E50 with E35.

Step 7: Add E25 to your darker areas. At this point if you have covered all of your original E50, don’t worry as we will be adding more!

Step 8: Add a little E29 to the darkest areas of the hair.

Step 9: Using your colours in reverse begin to blend using small feather strokes. As this is hair you don’t want to blend your colours completely, using strokes will give the impression of flowing, textured hair. Your final colour will be E50, use this to colour any blank areas. At this point I always take a look at my image and if I feel I want to darken any shadows in the hair I use my darkest colour and I use my blender pen to remove a little colour from the highlighted areas.

Step 10: To colour the eyes I used B32, B23 and B39.

Step 11: For the dress, again I begin with my lightest colour which is BG000. Lay down your colour where your darkest area will be and leave your lightest area uncoloured. In this photo you will notice my scrap piece of card which I used to test my colours.

Step 12: Next, add BG01

Step 13: Add your mid tone which is BG05.

Step 14: Finally, add a little of your darkest colour which is BG09.

Step 15: As before, use your colours in reverse to blend and use your final colour, BG000, to colour your previously uncoloured area. I always colour in small areas because the ink remains wet and you can achieve a good blend. Colour the remaining areas of the dress. In this photo I have also coloured the shoes and her necklace.

Step 16: I only used Y17 to colour her crown as it is such a small area and I used C1 and my blender pen to colour the underskirt, gloves etc.

Step 17: Finally I used W1, W3, W5, W7 and 0 to colour the ground.

Finally, here is the image on a card.

Gift Bag Tutorial

Hi everyone, today I am going to share a tutorial that was first shown on the Whiff of Joy Inspirations & Tutorials Blog. I'm going to explain how I make a gift bag by altering a brown paper bag.

Supplies
Block bottom paper bag - mine measures 15 x 30.5 cms
1 x card measuring 18.5 x 15.5 cms
1 x card measuring 29 x 15.5 cms
Border punch (optional)
Bone folder
Strong adhesive

Step by Step

Step 1: Cut down your paper bag so it measures 17.5 cms tall. Fold down the bottom flap and crease well with your bone folder.

Step 2: Take your card that measures 29 x 15.5 cms and score at 18.5 and 19 cms. Fold and crease along both score lines. What you have is the piece of card that will cover the back of your bag, fold over the top and the front flap. If you would like your front flap to have a decorative edge, punch at this point.

Step 3: Add double sided tape or strong adhesive to both sides of your paper bag. Remove the backing tape off one side and adhere your bag to the section that is going to be the back cover. I find it easier to adhere the bag to the card rather than the other way round! You will notice that the bag is a bit smaller than the card, make sure you stick it in a central position and a little card is visible all the way round the bag. This just gives your bag a nice even finish and you don't risk any of the brown bag being proud at the edges.

Step 4: Next adhere your other piece of card that is going to be your front cover to the bag, making sure that the edges match up with the back cover.

Step 5: Now the main structure of your bag is complete, now you just need to decorate it.

Everyone has different creative styles so I am not going to do a step by step on how I decorated my project, but I thought you may find it useful if I give you the dimensions of the card and DP that I used in my example below. In my example I created a pocket in the back to hold a gift tag:
Front panel: Card - 18 x 15 cms, DP - 17.5 x 14.5 cms
Front flap: Card - 15 x 8 cms, DP - 14.5 x 7.5 cms
Back panel top: card - 11 x 15 cms, DP - 10.5 x 14.5 cms
Back panel bottom: card - 11 x 15 cms, DP - 9 x 14.5 cms (punch the top edge of the card to make a decorative edge on the pocket.

Here is the font of my bag. The stamps I used are all from the Whiff of Joy Store Kit Blooming Spring. To keep the bag closed you could either used velcro, a small magnet, tape, ribbon or if you add an image like I have it is quite heavy and holds itself closed nicely.

Here is the back of the bag and you can see how I incorporated a pocket to hold a gift tag. Thanks for stopping by today and I hope someone finds this useful.  Liza x

Treat Pouch Tutorial

Hi everyone, today I have a tutorial to share with you that I first showed on the Whiff of Joy Inspirations & Tutorials blog. I'm going to explain how I make a treat pouch, they are really easy and are suitable to hold little treats, money or gift cards. So here goes....

Supplies
1 piece of designer paper - it doesn't matter what size as long as it is square
Bone folder
Adhesive
Image and/or embellishments to decorate

Step by Step

Step 1: For my project I am using double sided DP that measures 6 x 6 inches. If you are using double sided paper, begin with the side that you want on the inside of the pouch facing upwards. Fold your paper in half diagonally from corner to corner, crease with your bone folder to get a crisp fold.

Step 2: Take the bottom right hand corner and fold it over to the middle of the opposite diagonal, crease with your bone folder once again.

Step 3: Take the bottom left hand corner and fold it over to the middle of the opposite diagonal and crease.

Step 4: Take one layer from the top and fold down to create your pouch. I usually apply a little piece of double sided tape underneath to hold it in place.

Step 5: Pop your fingers inside the pouch and with the thumb of the opposite hand create a small dip, this gives your pouch a bottom.

Step 6: Finally, decorate your treat pouch. Mine is just a small pouch so I kept embellishments to a minimum and I just used the mini version of Charlotte Kissing Pigeon. She is coloured with copics, cut with labels one nesties and added to the front of the pouch with foam pads.

Here is a picture of the pouch and matching card. Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial! Take care x

Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Here is a quick tutorial to show you how I make my gift card holders.

Step 1: Take a piece of card measuring 25 x 10 cms and score at 5 cms and 15 cms - on the image I have marked the score lines in black so they are easier to see.

Step 2: Turn the card and score at 1 cm and 9 cms

Step 3: Cut and remove the pieces as shown in the picture and shape the remaining tabs by cutting off the corners.

Step 4: Fold along all the score lines and apply double sided tape or a strong glue of your choice to the back side of the tabs.

Step 5: Remove the backing tape, fold and adhere to form a small pocket for your gift card.

Step 6: Your basic gift card holder is complete, all you need to do now is decorate it! It will stay close on its own or you can choose to keep it closed by using a small magnet, velcro or like me, incorporate a ribbon into your design.

For my finished gift card holder the papers are from DCWV, I have used my snowflake folder for the embossing and Tilda with Yulehat is from the Magnolia Christmas Collection 2008.

Post It Note Holder Tutorial

Hi girls. I have just done this quick tutorial to show you how I made my post it note holder in my previous post. It is very quick and easy to do and it would make a nice little gift.

You will need:
1 x piece of cardstock that measures 3.25 x 7 inches
3 x pieces of cardstock that measure 3 x 3 inches
2 x pieces of DP that measure 2.75 x 2.75 inches
2 lengths of ribbon approx 5 inches in length
Glue/double sided tape
Scissors
Bone folder
Embellishments of your choice

Firstly, take your long piece of cardstock and score at 3.25 inches from each end.

Next, fold along the score lines to create a spine in the centre.

Take your two pieces of DP and adhere them to two pieces of your 3 x 3 inch card.
Set them to one side.

Next, take your large piece of cardstock, centre your ribbon and adhere like shown in the photo above. I use scotch tape for sticking ribbon as it is easily removed if you stick it in the wrong place!

Take your plain piece of 3 x 3 cardstock and adhere this to the inside bottom panel to cover the ribbon (this is the right panel in the photo, I had to take the picture this way to fit it all in). This is where your post it notes are going to be fixed to so there is no need to decorate this with DP as it will not be seen. Take one piece of card matted with DP and adhere this to the top inside panel.

Next, turn it over and adhere your final piece of card matted with DP to the front. I have embellished mine before adhering it as I have used a brad to fix my flower on and I didn't want it to be seen on the inside.

Adhere your post it note to the inside.

Finally, tie your ribbon and your post it note holder is finished.

To embellish I have used a WOJ sentiment from the general sayings set, primas, PM pearl brad, spacer, charm, pearl and the leaves were created with my leone em branch punch.

And finally, from another angle!

Scalloped Edge Box Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how I made my scalloped edge box. It is my first attempt at a tutorial, so any constructive comments are welcome!! I have done loads of pictures, probably a bit too many so I will apologize in advance and I must make a mental note to myself, the next time I do a tutorial, iron the tablecloth first!!!!

The first thing you will notice below, is the measurements for the cardstock are a little odd!! so I will explain how I came up with these. The box measurements are based around the diameter of the circle you use to make your scallops. In this case, I have used the second largest die from the petite scalloped circles large nesties set, the diameter of which is 8.6 cms. My constructed lid will have a depth of 2 cms so my cardstock needs to measure: 2 cms + 8.6 cms + 2 cms = 12.6 cms, so my cardstock for the lid needs to be 12.6 x 12.6 cms. As my base is going to fit inside the lid, I have adjusted by taking off 3 mm, but the sides of the base will have a depth of 5 cms so my cardstock needs to measure 5 cms + 8.3 cms + 5 cms = 18.3 cms, so my cardstock for the base needs to be 18.3 x 18.3 cms. Hopefully this will become more clear as we go along.....

Step 1
You will need:
1 x cardstock measuring 12.6 x 12.6 cms (lid)
1 x cardstock measuring 18.3 x 18.3 cms (base)
Co-ordinating DPs and/or cardstock
Nesties or circle cutter - I have used the 2nd largest die from the nestie set petite scalloped circles large (the circle has a diameter of 8.6 cms)
Scoring tool
Ruler
Glue
Double sided tape
Scissors
Ribbon
Stamp and/or embellishments of your choice to decorate.

Step 2

First, we will make the base of the box. Take your largest piece of cardstock and score at 5cms in from the left edge. Turn your cardstock 90 degrees and score again at 5cms in from the left edge. Repeat until all four sides are scored then fold along each of your score lines.

From the picture on the left you can also see the base measurements a little more clearly. The centre square measure 8.3 x 8.3 cms and the sides are each 5 cms.

Step 3

Next, cut along each score line as directed in the picture on the right - this is quite hard to explain in words, I thought the picture would show it better!

Step 4

Turn your card over and glue each small flap, as shown in the picture

Step 5

Fold up each of the corners, as shown and stick.

The base of your box is now complete!

Step 6

For the lid of your box, repeat steps 2 - 5, but score and fold at 2 cms in from each edge.

Your main box is now complete.

Step 7

Now for the scallops! Using your cuttlebug and nestie (8.6 cm diameter) or circle cutter, cut out 4 circles - 2 from your cardstock and 2 from your co-ordinating DP.

In this case, I have used white cardstock and yellow gingham DP and I have sponged with spiced marmalade distress ink around the DP circles. Obviously the choice is yours, you could use two different DPs if you wish or two co-ordinating cardstocks.

Fold each of your circles in half and cut along the fold.

Step 8

Take your cardstock half circles and apply glue along the cut edge of each one. Stick each half circle along the edge of the lid of your box.

When you have applied all of your half circles, your box will look like this.

Step 9

Take your remaining half circles and fold them in half again - so they are quarter circles.

Glue the cut edges and apply them to the corners of your box lid.

When you have applied all of your half circles, your box lid will look like this.

Step 10

To hide all of your cuts and joins, you need to put some ribbon around the top. Apply double sided tape to the top edge of the lid, but leave a space so you can tie your bow. Apply your ribbon, tie it in a bow or knot and finally, decorate and embellish as you like.

I have used my WOJ mouse under party hat stamp which I have coloured with distress inks and I have finished it off with primas, a pearl brad and a small jewel.

If you are still here, thanks for bearing with me! I would appreciate any comments - good or bad - that you may have! You can make this little box in any size that you like to suit whatever gift you put inside, just remember to adjust your sizes as per the diameter of the circle you are going to use for your scallops.
