Gunners Look At Drugs

In an effort to enlist the gun rights community in the anti-prohibition effort I have written a piece for Gun Values Board.

Guns And Weed - The Road To Freedom

From the above trailer: "I was an undercover narcotics officer [secret police - Ed.], the Drug War is nothing but a farce."

Suggested by a post at Libertarian Punk. Commenter Bob Mulroy recommended the site in the comments at Guns And Drugs.

Update: You can watch the whole movie here. Just click on the Play All button at the top and the whole movie will automatically play in segments. The www site for the movie is here.

New Gun Control Regulations

Forty Nine states have open or concealed carry laws. And yet Obama wants to impose new regulations unauthorized by law. All this because the government sent a LOT of guns to Mexico. I'm sure this is not a vote getter for Obama. I wonder if he is going to run in 2012?

Gun industry representatives said they would file lawsuits Wednesday challenging new gun-control measures by the Obama administration, an effort the nation's top lawyer vowed to "vigorously oppose."

The Justice Department, facing growing questions over Operation Fast and Furious, a controversial sting targeting Mexican drug cartels and American gunrunners, announced last month that it would begin requiring firearms dealers along the nation’s Southwest border to report multiple sales of certain semi-automatic rifles. The department said such rifles are "highly sought after by dangerous drug trafficking organizations," and the new measures would help "detect and disrupt" weapons trafficking networks.
I think if we could get the government to stop shipping guns to Mexico it might have a much more significant effect.

When?

OK. Let me be explicit:

The Drug War is a threat to your rights.

When are you going to do something about it?

Guns And Drugs

Evidently, our Drug Warriors, stung by a lack of success, have decided to throw in their lot with the ATF in order to drum up support for a bigger drug war.

The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration has admitted that the agency knew about and played a role in "Operation Fast and Furious," a botched gunrunning program that allowed more than 2,000 firearms to "walk" across the border into Mexico.

In a letter to the House Committee on Oversight, obtained by the LA Times, DEA administrator Michele Leonhart wrote that DEA agents in Phoenix and El Paso were "indirectly involved" in the Fast and Furious operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). The letter states that the DEA had no "decision-making role" in Fast and Furious.

Leonhart's letter marks the first time another law enforcement agency, other than the ATF, has acknowledged working on Fast and Furious.
I have been saying something in my e-mails, but I haven't said much in public. Let me correct that:

Drug Prohibition is a stalking horse for Gun Prohibition.

I have been saying that in other words for quite a while. See a couple of my more recent posts:

The Drug War – It Is Not Just For Dopers Anymore

Guns And The Drug War

Today I thought I'd make it explicit. I also want to ask a question: "Why is the gun rights community so silent about one of the chief threats to their rights: The Drug War?"

It is not just the fecklessness of the pols that is ruining the country. It is also the silence of the masses (specifically gun owners in this case). We are getting the government we deserve with all the corruption and murdering that goes with any prohibition regime.

The Drug War – It Is Not Just For Dopers Anymore

The Drug War is not just a threat to dopers. It is a threat to gun rights as well. As one commenter puts it.

...this was a well executed plan to overturn the 2nd amendment and the DoJ lost control of the narrative.
Yes. And they are using Drug Prohibition as a backdrop.

They are using the Drug War against Gun Rights. And this is not the first time. Care to look into Alcohol Prohibition and its effects on gun rights? You would think some one with a knowledge of history would notice. You would be wrong. Mostly.

This was an attempt to use the Drug War against Gun Owners.

Guns And The Drug War

With Project Gunwalker so much in the news these days it is rather surprising to me that the 2nd Amendment Community is not up in arms (heh) about the Drug War. The biggest threat to gun ownership (at least according to those who initiated the Gunwalker Project) is the Drug War. And yet the silence from the gun rights community is deafening.

Here is a bit Posted by Ann Barnhardt - June 17, AD 2011 9:54 AM MST where the author tiptoes around the issue.

Gunwalker never, ever had ANYTHING to do with drug enforcement or stopping the cartels. NOTHING. The reason that the Obama regime, which we all know is a treasonous Marxist-totalitarian enemy force, executed the Gunwalker program was to create optics (lots of dead Mexican civilians, dead Mexican law enforcement, dead Mexican military and dead Americans) that they could then use to justify the elimination of the Second Amendment via the U.N., specifically the Small Arms Treaty. ATF insiders have reported that the Obama regime was "giddy" that Mexicans were being killed by Gunwalker firearms. This is because these people are Marxists, and as I have said here repeatedly, Marxists lie and murder human beings as policy. Marxists believe that human life has no intrinsic value and that human beings are object pawns that can be used and exterminated without compunction in order to further their own goals and increase their own power. In this case, the goal is to disarm the people of the United States so that the Marxist-Obamaist regime can seize totalitarian, dictatorial power, overthrow the Constitution, and establish a global power matrix. This disarmament will be achieved (or so they think) by using the meme of American omni-culpability. In other words, everything is OUR FAULT.

"See? These Mexicans are dead because of weapons sourced in the U.S. If it weren't for the U.S. and the Second Amendment, none of this would have happened."

Yeah, except the Obama regime specifically handed the weapons in question to the Mexican cartels, and then explicitly FORBADE the ATF agents from interdicting them.
Implicitly she recognizes the threat. Explicitly? Not a fookin word.

Why? I suppose it is because beating up dopers is such a popular sport in America. And why not? Currently Jews are out of season.

Gun Control

Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in the alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to the police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

No Heat

The question “Why was no one at the event packing heat?” has been coming up frequently with respect to the shootings in Arizona.

My guess is that those at the event were Democrats.

Yeah. Some Democrats are pro-gun. Like Rep. Giffords. But if you are looking for anti-gun folks you will have better luck sampling Democrats than sampling Republicans.

Hanging Out With Marines

There is a discussion of gun control and the Nazis going on at the Volokh conspiracy. I found a comment there I took exception to:

I’m for 2nd amendment rights but the silly Nazi idiocy in this post is offensive. It reeks of the miltary hatered found in the IBD blog about a possible miltary coup about a year ago. Irrational hatred born of apparently complete ignorance.
Well, let me say this about that:

I dunno. I’m ex-military (admittedly a Navy pussy — but we hang out with Marines) and a Jew. And I think about these things. Are they serious worries? Not yet. Hopefully not ever.

But just in case I hang out from time to time at the Oath Keepers site.

BTW - Happy Birthday Marines. When John Paul Jones was fighting the British you made a difference. Not exactly American Marines. But since they were under American command we'll take 'em.

Gun Owners Up In Arms

Evidently Mr. Obama can't get gun regulation/confiscation through the Congress in the normal manner so he is trying an end run by getting the Senate to pass a treaty.

You can read more about it at this Department of State site. Here is just one provision:
Technical Assistance and Training. Parties agree to cooperate to better ensure adequate training in such areas as identification and tracing; intelligence gathering; and detection methods and search protocols at borders.
So we are going to have Secret Police going after gun owners in America? How well has that worked out for drug users? Have they curtailed drug use much?

And what is Mr. Obama's rationalization for this effort? To keep criminals from getting guns for use in the Drug War. That should be about as effective as keeping the criminals from getting drugs. Like all failed socialist policies new laws are required to make up for the failures of the previous set of policies. The Drug War begets a War On Guns. I have been beating this drum for years, warning gun rights folks that the Drug War was going to be used against them. It is unfortunate that the vast majority of Gun Rights folks haven't been paying attention.

For those of you interested in a little history may I suggest: The Founders' Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bear Arms.

Guns And Drugs

The Democrats are going to use prohibition induced violence to take away our gun rights. Because only criminals should be allowed to have guns or drugs.

I have been saying for several decades that drug prohibition would lead to gun prohibition. Way to go Conservatives. Because like you know. Prohibition works.

Joyce Likes Obama

That would be the Joyce Foundation. Mr. Obama was a director of the Joyce Foundation from 1994-2002. He probably never heard about their gun control efforts and for sure it never came up at board meetings. Besides, Mr. Obama has a new position to cover all that just in case anyone has any doubt. After all he "Always said...."

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has worked to assure uneasy gun owners that he believes the Constitution protects their rights and that he doesn’t want to take away their guns.

But before he became a national political figure, he sat on the board of a Chicago-based foundation that doled out at least nine grants totaling nearly $2.7 million to groups that advocated the opposite positions.

The foundation funded legal scholarship advancing the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun owners’ rights, as well as two groups that advocated handgun bans. And it paid to support a book called “Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns.”
Some campaign guy goes on to make a weak apology to the effect that there is no conflict with Obama's real position on guns and his being a director of Joyce. Because, you know, all those other positions were just ruses to get elected, but my real position is my last one.

It is possible.

Heller And The Election

Some commenters out there, among them Instapundit, say that the decision in Heller today takes gun rights off the table as an election issue. I beg to differ.

The decision was 5-4. That means that everything could change if a Justice is confirmed whose views are more in line with Obama's views (which appear to have changed) of a while back. Don't forget that he lives in a state that is one of two that are totally out of touch on this issue. The two? Illinois and Wisconsin. The only two states in the nation that do not have some form of concealed carry laws.

Of course what are the odds of getting another Justice Thomas? Higher with McCain than Obama. FWIW.

For some background on the case visit Clayton Cramer.

Encounter In A Parking Lot

Often, situational awareness and a move to initiate deadly force can prevent trouble.

I cringed as I approached the greeter at the door with a bag in my hand. Thankfully, the elderly lady ignored me and we exited the first door into the foyer. I became vaguely aware of two scruffy young men behind us as I stopped to look for traffic in preparation of entering the parking lot. They stayed behind us, rather than coming alongside.

I handed Little Darling her bag and took her hand as we began to negotiate the maze of parked automobiles. I glanced back and saw that the two young men had spread apart, one on either side of us and to the rear. That is when I felt it. They had matched my stride and were circling me. Like an antelope, I knew I was being stalked by jackals, only I did not know why. Time was accelerating at head pounding speed, and Little Darling, blissfully unaware, was along for the ride.

I saw our vehicle and began to approach it, but I wanted to be certain. I walked past, and cut between two unoccupied SUVs, grabbing a shopping cart to block the path from my front. The man on my right turned towards me and cursed as he saw his path was blocked by the cart jammed between the two vehicles sideways. I spun and drew my pistol from it's holster, keeping it at low ready, facing off the other young man who was quickly approaching me from behind. My thumb had already snicked off the safety and Little Darling, confused, peered from behind me.

A Well Regulated Militia

At ABC News blog there is a discussion of Obama, Romney, and gun control. Obama is trying to have it both ways. One Democrat commenter is not pleased. He does have this to say:

I can see no reason for private citizens to own fully automatic assault weapons.
How about it is a militia weapon?

We Have Beaches

I was reading at Alphecca about the Brady anti-gun campaign's rating of various States on the level of their gun prohibition laws. A low rating means a gun friendly state. A high rating means very unfriendly to fire arms. California is very unfriendly. Here is the take of one commenter from California. Of course like any good Californian he has turned the list upside down and is interpreting it "improperly".

Wow, California is at the bottom? And by a big margin, too. I knew it was bad out here but I thought MA and MD had it worse.

So, as I’ve asked before, when are y’all going to invade? We have beaches!
