Romney Gets Carter Endorsement

Jimmy Carter has a few kind words for Mitt Romney.

On former Massachusetts Gov. Romney, the former Democratic president said he would like to see Romney win the Republican presidential nomination.

"I'm not taking a position, but I would be very pleased to see him win the Republican nomination," Carter said on an interview on MSNBC set to air Thursday night.

Carter also said he appreciated that Rep. Bachmann (R-Minn.) worked on Carter's presidential campaign in 1976.
I think this will really help Mitt in the general election. If he gets that far.

Why Isn't Gary Johnson Included?

Here is a little ditty I got by e-mail.

Republican Liberty Caucus Advisory Board member Gary Johnson, the former two-term Governor of New Mexico, is being excluded from the upcoming CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union-Leader Republican Presidential debate taking place in Manchester on Monday, June 13.
Maybe it has something to do with the criteria for being in the debate.
According to these criteria, the following invited candidates should not have been:

Former Ambassador Jon Huntsman (who declined the invitation)
[snip]
Former Senator Rick Santorum:
[snip]
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (who declined the invitation):
[snip]

Gov. Johnson, who was included in last month’s debate in SC and has already been accepted for next month’s debate in NV, and who has consistently polled alongside Santorum and above Huntsman, however, did not receive such special treatment. The several declined invitations proves that Gov. Johnson was not excluded for want of space on the debate stage.
Read the whole thing to get all the details.

What can you do about it? I'm glad you asked. You can contact these folks:

There is also a petition to sign. I was #392 (roughly). It is going to take at least 10,000 sigs to draw any attention. Get busy. And get your friends.

So who is scheduled so far for the debate?
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum...
Maybe if Johnson remains obscure he will have a better chance of being picked by Palin. Maybe not.

Paul Launches Assault On RomneyCare

(Note that the time shown in the image is GMT - heh)

Ron Paul is launching an all out attack on Mitt Romney and the socialized medicine plan he devised for Massachusetts.

This could be just round one for Paul.
It looks like Paul is only beginning to hit Romney on health care. Sandwiched between the title and the money on Paul's website are the words "Round One."
I'd love to see Romney knocked out early.

And just as a completely wacky aside I think 4 July 2011 would be a good day for Palin to announce. Something about America's birth certificate maybe.

Easily Overshadowed

Sarah Palin has apologized to the Romney Campaign for making it invisible in New Hampshire. It is just a coincidence.

"It's coincidental that we are in the same territory at the same time, but more power to Mitt as he mounts his campaign and best of luck to him," she added.

Yet Palin also took a shot at Romney over the health care law he signed as Massachusetts governor.

"Romneycare" looks not unlike the controversial "Obamacare" federal health care law passed by Democrats in 2010 and reviled on the right; both feature a mandate that residents purchase health insurance, which is at the center of conservative legal challenges to the federal law.
Well yeah. He is vulnerable on RomneyCare. He is also vulnerable on ethanol subsidies. None the less he will be the Republican nominee for President according to the LSM talking heads. It is inevitable. Unless something unexpected happens.

End ALL Energy Subsidies

Sarah Palin says:

"I think that all of our energy subsidies need to be relooked at today and eliminated," Palin told Real Clear Politics at a coffee shop in Dillsburg, Pa. "And we need to make sure that we're investing and allowing our businesses to invest in reliable energy products right now that aren't going to necessitate subsidies because, bottom line, we can't afford it."
The Great Mittens Romney - the next Republican Nominee For President - supports ethanol subsidies.
"I support the subsidy of ethanol," Romney told a potential voter after an event here was cut short by a fire alarm. "I believe ethanol is an important part of our energy solution in this country."
If it requires a subsidy it is not a solution. It could be a prototype. It could be an engineering test. It could be a market test. But it is not a solution. Solutions are profitable without subsidies.

I thought Romney was the smart business guy who would apply his business knowledge to government? I guess he went to the "Oligarch's School of Business Management." And what do they teach there? "Good businessmen can always make a profit with government money. It is all about buying the right lawmakers. And they go for very cheap."

There is an added advantage. All those "$Green Companies" will no longer be donating to their favorite political party.

Chicago Republican Sex Scandal

There appears to be a Republican sex scandal brewing in Chicago. I'm not going into all the details. For that you can start with the link provided (and some more below). What I want to look at is who is involved.

Both Roupas and “The Prophet” are “Romney Guys”, a special brand of Republican we’ve identified and described for you on this site repeatedly. Here in Chicago, all of these guys seem to have been part of the Mitt Romney 2008 campaign, before Romney bowed out to John McCain. They’ve never stopped running Romney for president, and have taken over organizations like the CYRs to build them into Romney 2012 ground teams. This is similar to what Barack Obama did between 2004 and 2008 to usurp control of the Democrat Party from the Clintons. The “Romney Guys” are dangerous for a lot of reasons, not just because they are hellbent on pushing a losing 2012 candidate upon the GOP. They’re also a problem because of the entitlement they feel, and the frat boy environment they foster in their ranks, encouraged, we’ve been told, by Mitt Romney himself. For “Romney Guys”, women are to be seen and not heard, don’t deserve much consideration, and are disposable. The goal of each day is to enrich themselves as much as possible, chomp down on some good cigars, drink themselves silly in wood-paneled neighborhood bars, and protect each other to the hilt whenever any of their penises get them into trouble.
Funny thing is that it fits well with yesterday's post about how Romney operatives are attacking Sarah Palin: Politics Revealed.

Here are a few more links to help you get into the meat (so to speak) of the story.

URGENT UPDATE: Affidavits obtained

Chicago Republican Website Features Topless Lady

Lee Roupas is lying

Will indulging millionaire cougar Beth Christie cost Republicans the governorship and Senate seat in Illinois?

The Chicago Young Republicans’ sexual assault scandal and its cover-up

Are police investigating the Chicago Young Republicans and Cook County GOP for an attempted rape?

That is more than enough meat to get you started. If you are still hungry there is Google.

And just for something a little different about Illinois politics: Bill Brady, Barack Obama's Poker Buddy: [Obama is a] 'Socialist With Everyone's Money But [His] Own'. I think a little excerpt is in order.
Right now, the state of Illinois is getting to know Bill Brady, the upstart right-wing Republican for governor who's taken a double-digit lead over incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn.

But Brady comes to the governor's race from the Illinois State Senate, where he represents the Bloomington area. From 2002 to 2004, he served in the Senate alongside a Senator from Chicago by the name of Barack Obama.

David Remnick's new biography of the President, "The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama," mentions that the two were not only Senate colleagues, but also poker buddies. And NBC Chicago's Ward Room discovered, in reading the book, that Brady had a choice quip for the future POTUS describing his accumulation of wealth at the table.
Illinois politics is so screwed. We don't elect candidates in Illinois. We elect machines. And it is all one big machine. Rs, Ds, it doesn't matter. I'll say it again. We are SO screwed.

Politics Revealed

Tammy Bruce speaks. And rips the Republicans a new one.

And given the Mitttens team's latest outburst I think she has a point.
Still, few express much regard for Palin’s ultimate chances. One adviser to Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and, by traditional standards, the putative 2012 frontrunner, says of Palin, “She’s not a serious human being.”
OK. I'll one up that. Romney is not a human being.

And in case you wondered Tammy also writes books.

Meanwhile Out West

It is starting to look more and more like Fred is every one's second choice. The candidate that everyone can compromise on. The Washington Post reports that Fred came in second in Wyoming picking up 3 delegates out of 12 up for grabs.

By the time the votes were counted, Romney had won eight delegates while Thompson picked up three and Hunter netted one. Twelve delegates were selected today, while another two will be apportioned in May at a statewide convention.

The Republican National Committee cut Wyoming's number of national convention delegates in half, to 14, in retaliation for its early voting, but Laramie County GOP Chairman Jerry Zellars said the decision to accelerate its caucuses still paid off.
In other election news it looks like McCain is surging in New Hampshire.
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — John McCain overtook Mitt Romney for the New Hampshire lead in a new poll released Saturday, three days before the nation's first primary.

Taken in the two days following the Iowa caucuses, the poll shows Romney losing ground after the former Massachusetts governor's disappointing second-place showing in the leadoff state; McCain continued his steady climb since the Arizona senator's campaign hit a low point last summer.

Mike Huckabee, the Iowa victor, didn't get a bounce in the survey from his Iowa triumph, meaning the race in New Hampshire has become a two-man fight.

McCain, who won New Hampshire's primary in his first bid eight years ago and wants a repeat, had 33 percent to Romney's 27 percent in the poll. All others trailed by double-digits; Rudy Giuliani had 14 percent while Mike Huckabee had 11 and Ron Paul had 9 in the CNN-WMUR poll.
It looks like Fred is not even in the running in New Hampshire. He is planning to spend a couple of days in the state before the election. If he gets around 5% I think that would be a fair showing for the effort. If he gets 10% or above that would be spectacular. Below 3% would be a disappointment. Still he will be going on to North Carolina.

Speaking of which. Fred looks to do good there. In a mock election in Langston Focus School in Danville Fred did real well.
“This was a chance for students to learn about who is running for president,” said Jared Coleman, a 12th-grader at Langston Focus School.

Obama beat Thompson, an actor best known for his role as District Attorney Arthur Branch on “Law & Order,” by a tally of 82 to 13. Republican Mitt Romney got a few write-in votes.

In the primary, Obama beat New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton with 50 votes to 25. Thompson beat U.S. Sen. John McCain in the GOP primary with 33 votes to 26. Students and faculty could vote in both primaries.

Coleman and fellow students Jeffrey Keene and Shonteca Henry canvassed voters in each classroom. They would make a brief presentation on behalf of each candidate and the voting took a matter of minutes.
Of course this is not a real election. Still, kids have a tendency to strongly reflect their parent's views. So Thompson did well in the "primary" and got skunked in the "general". I think that is OK for now.

And just for fun: the Paulites who were expected to do well in Wyoming, got zero convention votes. They are crying in their beer. If a Libertarian can't do well in Wyoming, what are the odds?

Update: Well it looks like I screwed the pooch. North Carolina is not going to vote until May. It is South Carolina in January. You can't tell the players without a score card giving the dates of all the primaries.

So what about South Carolina? Glad you asked. Jim Geraghty of National Review has a puff piece by a Thompson operative and some words of caution.
My only note of skepticism in this thinking is that there's not just New Hampshire before South Carolina, but Michigan as well. Thompson has gone to a midwestern state of Iowa and did, meh, okay I guess. He won't do well in New Hampshire, and might be in asterisk territory, as Suffolk and Zogby have him at 2 percent. There isn't a ton of polling on Michigan, but what there is doesn't have Thompson making much of a splash. So it may be a long stretch before Thompson is back on friendly territory in South Carolina.

But the potential secret weapon? Wyoming, this Saturday. The Thompson Associate tells me, "Fred has actually spent time there. And don’t forget Liz Cheney is working with us."
Well Fred did OK in Wyoming. The rest is for the future. Which is hard to predict.
