Busby Berkeley was a music choreographer. He was able to manipulate dozens of look-a-like girls into different geometric forms. Some are covertly sexual. I hated these movies when I was a kid. I just couldn’t see the point of them. But of course there is no point. Surrealism couldn’t have gotten a wider audience.

John Lennon
13 08 2011“In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrators James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina have collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. A spellbinding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit and timeless message, I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short and won the 2009 Emmy for ‘New Approaches’ (making it the first film to win an Emmy on behalf of the internet).”
Besides the interesting thoughts of Lennon is the wonderful illustrations that in many ways are parallel to Lennon’s own drawings.

Calendar Girls
13 08 2011We measure our lives in years, months, days, seconds. Time does not move. All measurement is a memory. Some memories are true. April made up her own story. I was there. I know she’s telling the truth.
Is it true? Is it a fabrication? You decide. Check out this new book from David Halliday.

Planet-Susannia
13 08 2011Creating collages can be a fun experience. But you spend hours placing images, scraps of paper, pictures beside each other. This video kind of goes through that experience while at the same time giving you a history lesson.
The video comes from a blog that is in German (I believe). So I am not completely sure who created the video. So I’ll attribute it to the blog sight and hope no one’s feelings are hurt.

Bela Borsodi
13 08 2011Bela Borsodi is a fashion photographer. His collages are filled with great visual ideas. Humour. All the ingredients for art. And yet they are so commercial. As if he was flaunting his talent. His work is filled with cynicism. He could be a good or great artist (who knows these things) but he chooses to make money. Well, I don’t know how to make money so that choice has never been one of my option. Still I like his stuff.
