My queue of posts is pretty long right now. So, this post I’m actually writing the day after Memorial Day. And I was saddened, angered, frustrated to read the Orange Buffoon’s Memorial Day “joke” about dead soldiers. Can’t that guy do anything without being a complete jerk?

But that’s the perfect lead un to this quotation from John Steinbeck…
Having lived through infinitely more positive times in my life I have to say that Steinbeck said a lot in so few words. The contrast to our senses between living in the light, and then suddenly finding yourself in the darkness is hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it.
At night, while camping, when you turn off the Coleman camp light with its brilliant illumination and suddenly the darkness of the forest engulfs you… Whoa…. that’s a moment, to be sure. Darkness is darker than dark. And the light seems so far away even though it’s been gone but a moment or two.
Yeah… eventually your eyes become accustomed to the dark, but that doesn’t take away from just how sudden, just how deep that darkness seemed.
And we are engrossed in a national darkness just the same. I don’t think anyone realizes the extent to which the Orange Buffoon’s onslaught against the institutions of this country has harmed, and even killed, thousands upon thousands of souls who were dependent upon programs both here and abroad. The savagery which Elon Musks minions laid into departments and staffs with no actual human intervention — just a decision made by artificial “intelligence” based upon biased and racist criteria has yet to be openly discussed. But this will surely go down in history as one of the most inhumane non-wartime decimations of population in history. I know that’s a big bold claim, but it will be decades before we can tabulate the impact upon population that these indiscriminate cuts to foreign and domestic welfare programs as well as the gutting of health science and climate science will have caused. Things like lives lost due to hurricanes or epidemic don’t easily get linked to political actions but I’m sure what we will see in the next decade and longer will be unprecedented. And not a soil “voted” for Musk, or his college nerd minions — and I’m sure no one will be held accountable — it’s just the way it is with the prerogatives of the rich.
Steinbeck’s words leave us without remedy. It would have been nice if the next sentence offered hope, but alas….
So, here we. re. Sitting in the dark, hoping that someone with a light will come along and light the way back to civilization and away from barbarism, racism, and ethnic cleansing.
I’m sorry if I ruined anyone’s day but I was really bummed by the story and sometimes we just have to stand up and say that is wrong.
Take care of yourself and I”ll check back in again tomorrow. :-)
