Low-key Day But Exciting

The feather pattern of the Golden Laced Wyandotte is a sight to behold.
Golden Laced Wyandotte

On my birthday, I got up about 8 am and got ready for the day...very slowly. I forgot how long it took to get to the place where I buy chickens--Dutch Oven Bakery. The guy wanted me there before the lunch rush. I got there a bit before 11 am.

They told me to just go wait in the yard for them. I drove next door and sat in the cool, bugless serenity of huge trees. Clothes on the line added to the serenity. I watched farm animals of all sorts. Chickens roamed over more than ten acres, bounded by cows where I could see. Waiting another hour would not have been a problem. The house is next door to the Mennonite bakery.

Two older teens came to catch chickens. The first chicken caught was absolutely the loudest chicken I have ever heard. I commented to the guy holding the chicken that I did not think that chicken had ever felt human touch.

The $12 chickens were $35 total. I went back to the bakery and bought three pieces of candy at $0.39 each and ate one.

On the way back, I stopped at Ruby Tuesday and had their $5 salad bar special. It was delicious, but suddenly my digestive system need to leave and go home. I did not make it.

I went back out and car shopped. I liked one that was "22-9." I gulped when the guy said that. I went to three places, actually four, but I won't go back to the fourth place.

Later, I got a DQ small chocolate ice cream.

So, now I have three captive chickens, ripped from their life of free-ranging. I sort of feel bad about this. They don't know what my yard is like the first chickens I got in 2009 knew. So, they will be held captive and fed their greens when I pull grass for them. I will be good to them, but there is no place like home...their beautiful, grassy home.

My life will now be dominated by getting healthy and free food for these girls. Right now, I am going to redeem my KFC card for a two-piece dinner.

One hen is a Golden Laced Wyandotte. The other two are light red hens. Actually, all three are mutts, but I recognize the distinctive pattern on the Wyandotte. Pictures later.

Is there a car you would recommend I not get? I have already eliminated Jeep.

The Wreck Saga

Really, nothing happened for over a week. Finally, more than a week later, the insurance company for the guy who hit me finally responded.

Exbf took me to Ruby Tuesday for dinner because I just cannot stand long enough to slice a tomato. Yes, I could sit, but then I would have to get to the table, and then get back up and go back to the sink.

I think it has been over two years since we ate there even though it is my favorite restaurant. I became tired of a poor experience and being unhappy over service and food on special occasions. Past experiences led me to eschew visiting there again. Today, I decided to live dangerously and take a chance. The waitress was great; service was spectacular, and the food was perfect. I could not say any of that before tonight.

My favorite meal: chicken fingers and a baked potato with sour cream. I usually get cole slaw with this but tonight I ordered sautéed zucchini.

Plus, I always get a salad bar because I do not have to fear facing a cucumber in my salad: mesclun mix, baby spinach, mushrooms, black olives, shredded carrots, grated cheese, chopped apples, broccoli, tomatoes, just a bit of potato salad, and ranch dressing.  This is the perfect salad.

I never can finish all this. So, two boxes were loaded up to take home. I have already finished the salad.

I would love to get one of their desserts, but I don't like dessert immediately after a heavy meal. We always drool over the dessert menu while the meals are coming, but we are too full and too cheap to get one. For my September birthday, maybe we will eat there and I will get a dessert.

I even had a coupon or three. We used the one for buy one and get second meal 1/2 price.

The car was returned this morning. I tried to return it yesterday, but I went at 4 pm, too late to have them take me home.  I was told I could return it at 4 pm. There was a mixup somewhere!

While here, exbf took me places I need to go. I had him log his miles so I could turn the information in to my attorney. I had to go to the doctor who found me in the peak of health! HA!

Now, I am without a car and not loving it at all. Booo!

I wish I could go to Ruby Tuesday more often! What is your favorite place to eat? Remember, this is a small town without many choices.
