I'm Down With That

Buttery smooth
back arched
fingers softly
teasing
valves and slides,
sublime scale
down the spine
groove that feeling,
high hat counter
bass seduction
the room hangs
on every sound,
and although
you’re not here
but yet you are,
please Miles
keep wailing
that horn.

my raw emotions
leave me jangled as the closed
door opens tension
your departure unresolved
I’m on edge this tightrope day

Haiku by Paul Vincent Cannon

For Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 66, Exploring Haiku, Melissa has invited us to write haiku that are a little edgy, a little offbeat. We can even call them “micropoetry” if need be. You don’t need to use a kigo. Have fun. Experiment.

Form: Haiku (5-7-5)

Three Haiku

showered, clean shirt on
roast lamb with herbs and gravy
gravy not on plate

impulsivity
oh what a superb bargain
I’ll take it back

more, more she cooed
shameless seductive pedal
sirens closing in

No More Screen Time – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

At dVerse De is hosting the Quadrille (44 words sans title) with an invitation to write a poem using some form of the word dog.

dVerse Poets – Quadrille – This One’s Gone To The Dogs

Photo: Taken at home in Augusta November 2022, Vianna – the black Schnauzer has just turned 14; Opal the white Schnauzer is only 4 and quite the communicator.

No More Screen Time

As she picks up her phone
Opal pulls by paw to
bring her hand back to stroking,
she types on her lap top
while Opal taps incessantly to
bring her attention back,
I have dog-eared my book
so’s I can watch this
dogged performance.

A Tanka by Paul Vincent Cannon

For Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 65, Fun With Homophones, Colleen has invited us to write a syllabic poem which uses homophones.

The two words that I have chosen are cereal and serial.

not all cereals
are created as equal
some are quite superb
most serial offenders
being cereal killers

individual
well that’s fine by me
all integrated
but individualism’s
community denial

Always – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

Always

Moving
not moving
going forward
not going
coming back
sideways
not staying
choosing
unchoosing
seeing
not seeing
hearing
not hearing
not listening
standing still,
rooted to this spot,
always on some
mind journey.

So Unaware – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

Photo: found on reddit.com

So Unaware

Frogs in a bucket,
you don’t say,
keep it cool
just in case
they fail
to retrace their
steps home,
how can anyone
live so naive?

I have waited so long
we agreed to meet right here
upon his return
she seems to be waiting too
hope she’s not waiting for him

The Stench Of Evil – prose by Paul Vincent Cannon

At dVerse Melissa is hosting Prosery (144 words of prose) with an invitation to write a piece of prose which includes the line “Publication – is the Auction Of the Mind.” from ‘Publication – is the Auction (788) by Emily Dickinson.

dVerse Poets – Prosery – Publication

The Stench Of Evil

Political dogma, doctrine, manifesto are cholesterol for the brain, every century gives its own testimony. In the twentieth Hitler wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle) while serving a prison sentence, one of the elements of this is his outline of the Final Solution, along with his express interest in expanding Germany’s dominance in Europe. In 1932 Mussolini published his Doctrine of Fascism also an expansionist colonial plan. Franco and Peron had their own doctrines, while Japan twisted the Bushido code and embraced emperor system fascism. Stalin and Mao had variations of communist manifestos. In the twenty-first century Netanyahu has The Netanyahu Doctrine. Trump has the insidious authoritarian Project 2025, bastard child of the Heritage (sic) Foundation. Putin dreams of a new Soviet. Everyone wants a doctrinal wet dream it seems but, publication – is the auction of the mind.  Every doctrine should be strangled at inception.
