QLSI2 - Large-Scale Semiconductor Quantum Computing
Project description and objective
QLSI2 (Initiative for European Semiconductor-based Large-scale Quantum Computer) aims to accelerate the development of Europe's first large-scale semiconductor-based quantum computing platform. Bringing together 23 partners from nine countries, the project will demonstrate a cloud-accessible 200-qubit quantum computer by 2027 while validating meaningful real-world use cases.
The project combines expertise from research organisations, universities, start-ups and industry to advance every stage of the quantum computing value chain, from semiconductor qubit technologies and control electronics to software and system integration. QLSI2 follows complementary heterostructure-based and fully depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) approaches to develop scalable and manufacturable quantum processors.
Beyond demonstrating a high-performance quantum computer, QLSI2 will establish a roadmap for the industrialisation of semiconductor quantum technologies. The project places particular emphasis on manufacturing readiness, supply chain development and cloud accessibility to enable the widespread adoption of quantum computing across Europe. By strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, QLSI2 will reinforce Europe's leadership in quantum computing and lay the foundations for scalable, industrially viable quantum computers capable of addressing scientific and industrial challenges beyond the capabilities of classical computing.
