It is officially spring and today I am making something related with the season.
Today bento theme is a spring fairy. I made her dress out of egg sheet and the hair from pasta, decorated with broccoli wreath.
For side dish : few pieces of veggie fritters and slice of flower ham, seared beef slices with broccoli. This bento goes to little Jennifer , the daughter of my good friend since high school.

It’s Thursday… It’s Valentine day.
Happy Love Day to all of you.. Wish you a lovely day with beloved one.
I remember fondly my younger days, the excitement on Valentine days, the chocolate, the flowers, the cards (talking about card, do people still send Valentine card now a day? Or e-card? or email? or just text message in What’s up, BBM, YM, LINE, I wonder…?)
Now the older and wiser me do not fuss that much anymore about Valentine Day as a special love day, I believe that love have to be expressed in everything we do, every possible moment that we have, not to wait for one special day in a year. Everyday should be a Valentine day 🙂

This is a scheduled post, currently I am away for vacation therefore sorry for any late response on comment.
Since I start doing bento, Lotus root had become a staple in my kitchen however the challenge with this unique ingredient is you can’t buy them in small qty.
A piece of Lotus root is big enough for several times bento side dish where in most of the case the rest of them are turn into my favorite snack Lotus root chips until a friend of mine told me about this Lotus root salad. She doesn’t give me the exact measurement of the recipe, it was based on your own sense and taste , I tried to make it and I love it.
This is my result (I am running out of ham, so I only use 1 slice, ideally I will add more ham into the salad)

Guess who is this week super hero? Dr. Barry Allen in his red costume aka The Flash.
Bento # 94 – The Flash bento
I made The Flash mask from red chilli and ham and the lighting logo from cheese. Side dish was fried chicken popcorn and fruit salad.
Any Dragon balls fans here? Is you are one , then you can easily spot and tell who is the piggy on today bento.
Today bento theme was based on the request from a friend of mine Mr. B.
It is a character from Dragon ball comic/anime, the pig called Oolong, he is a shapes shifting and perverted pig who met Goku in the beginning of the story and they becoming friends in the quest finding the Dragon balls.

I am too lazy to make the whole pig, so I only made the head from ham and smoked beef. While for the underwear I use pink kamaboko, use the white part for white underwear and the pink part for the small ribbon.
Summary of what’s in the box : Rye bread sandwiches with eggs salad + steam broccoli + hard boiled eggs and radish star. Yum…

The return of superhero and the appearance of the first female superhero, I present you the mighty Amazon princess Diana aka Wonder woman.
Bento # 82 – Wonder woman Bento
I made the face and body from chicken ham, Nori for eyes and hair, cheese and red chilli for the head band and costume.
Initially I wanted to submit this bento for the weekly 5 for Friday in Bento family, meaning Bento using only 5 ingredients include 1 spice. But upon counting back, just realized that rice mix with Furikake was actually counted as 2 ingredients, not 1. Now I end up with 6 ingredients which made this wonder woman not eligible. My bad…
Today ingredients : Ham, Nori, Cheese, Ume Furikake, Rice and Chilli.
Regardless I do love the outcome of the wonder woman, she looks exotic and lovely.
By the way did any of you know that Diana is not an American and only spoke only her native Themyscirian language (a combination of classical Greek and Turkish)? She had to learn English when she arrived in America, rather than knowing the language intuitively. It is good to know that superhero also need to put an effort to adapt in this world.

When I post my previous Ultraman bento, I did mention about making Ultraman Saga, the evolved or modernized version of the classic Ultraman. So here he is, Ultraman Saga sandwich, ready to fight my growling stomach 🙂
I use carrot to make the electric/flash decoration on the face and yellow cheery tomato for the eyes.

Bento # 74 – Wolverine Bento
I use the classic Wolverine from old comic book as reference. he is not as handsome as the Hugh Jackman wolverine but he indeed look strong and powerful.

This is the Ume furikake that I use to mix the rice, price per pack is Rp 28,500 (approx USD $3).

Today recipe was adapted from http://www.cookingjapanesestyle.com. The author of this recipe said that this is the type of snack to drink with beer at Tachinomiya (stand-up bar).
The recipe is so simple yet delicious, it did not require a lot of seasoning, hence bring out the natural taste of the ingredients. Below is my version of fried lotus root with japanese mushroom.

Instructions
1.   First we need to peel the lotus root skin off and cut the lotus root into thin slices.
2.   Now we need to take the shiitake mushroom cut the stem off at the base and cut into thin slices.
3.   Next we need to cut the ham into slices.
4.   Now for the cooking part, turn your stove on to a medium heat. Add the lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, and ham to the frying pan. Then add you salt, pepper, and shoyu. Mix and let it cook for about 5 ~ 6 minutes.
5.   Done and serve.
When I made the previous three little pigs bento, I kind of wanting to add a bad wolf in the bento, but due to one and and another reason, it was not realized.
So today the big bad wolf appear with Little red riding hood, I try to make this Otogicco version which I happen to stumble upon when I was online shopping for Bento tools.
I use red pepper for the red hood , ham for the face and Nori for the wolf. Try to cut the Nori to resemble the wolf based on this image that I Google from internet (photo not belong to me)
Here is my Little Red Riding Hood Bento, its an vegetarian dish, except for the ham, dedicated for fellow vegan bento blogger friends.
