All 17 Songs from the Limitless Soundtrack

•April 4, 2011 • 2 Comments

The Limitless soundtrack has 17 songs on it,  but the Limitless soundtrack album doesn’t have any of them. It’s not Limitless, it’s just less. Not to worry, we’ve got your mix of The Black Keys, Conway Twitty, Eric B and Rakim.

The best song in the movie is “Howlin’ for You” by the Black Keys. It plays when he takes his second pill and finishes his book. It also playes again at the end credits.

Some of my other favorite songs from the movie are Jukebox by Kidz in the Hall (not that Kids in the Hall), as well “Let it Go” by The Dunes. “La Boquilla” by Bomba Estereo also has one hell of a hook. It sounds a bit M.I.A. once you give it a chance.

The movie itself was entertaining. The falling words during the writing scene reminded me of David Fincher’s opening treatment in Fight Club. I also liked the visual treatment of zoom lensing to illustrate the change in perception when he took the pills. The story is enough to keep you pulling through to the end, even if the music wasn’t what was drawing you most of the time.

Here’s the complete list of songs from the Limitless soundtrack, including downloads for the songs and scenes that the songs were in.

  • At the bar – Cicada – Versus
  • Trying to write his book – I Don’t Care If There’s Cursing – Phosphorescent

  • Club Don’t Sweat The Technique – Eric B & Rakim
  • Talking to investment guys Chocolate And Cheese – Jon Kennedy
  • Flying to “the beach” on the plane La Boquilla (Dixone Remix) – Bomba Estereo
  • Meets loanshark at the diner – Athens By Night – Matt Hirt

All 12 Songs from the Sucker Punch Soundtrack

•March 26, 2011 • 5 Comments

There are 12 songs on the Sucker Punch soundtrack and the songs play a critical role in the movie. Think of it as the kick from Inception put to the graphical stylings of Sin City. Many of the songs are cover versions sung by the actors from Sucker Punch. Emily Browning performs the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” as well as the Pixies “Where is My Mind?”. Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac also sing “Love is the Drug”. There are also a couple songs from Skunk Anansie and Bjork, as well as a mashup of Queen as well.

Here’s the list of 12 songs from Sucker Punch with links to the downloads for them, along with notes on the scenes they were in.. The soundtrack album to Sucker Punch only has nine of the songs, but you can find the rest here.

Here’s the video for “Want it All / We Will Rock You Mashup” by Queen with Armageddon:

All 10 Songs from the I Am Number Four Soundtrack

•March 3, 2011 • 8 Comments

There are 10 songs in I Am Number Four, but zero songs on the I Am Number Four soundtrack album because they didn’t release one. That’s unfortunate; almost as unfortunate as the fact that few people are probably going to see the movie. It’s actually better than the critics gave it credit for.

I Am Number Four starts off with Kings of Leon, followed closely by The Black Keys. Not a bad start; not bad at all. Follow that up with Adele, The xx and The Temper Trap, and all of a sudden you have one hell of a soundtrack. Beck is also in there. He is consistently brilliant, even if his songs usually miss radio play. His song “Curfew” is on I Am Number Four. If you get hooked, also check out Volcano and Girl. You will not be disappointed.

Among all of the songs, the one that most people will be looking for is “Letters from the Sky” by Civil Twilight. It is featured in the trailer for I Am Number Four as well as the closing scene of the movie. I had not heard of Civil Twilight before I saw the TV ads for the movie, but it is one of the reasons why I saw the movie in the first place. It’s rare that the music producer and the ad agency see eye-to-eye on music. Usually songs from one do not find there way into the other. But thankfully, the trailer pays off in the movie in a perfect song, perfect scene kind of way.

Here’s the complete list of songs from I Am Number Four, along with the downloads for the songs and information about the scenes that they were in.

It Took Me 127 Days to Post the 127 Hours Soundtrack, But It’s Stuck in the Queue No More

•February 28, 2011 • 2 Comments

It took me slightly more than 127 days to post the 127 Hours soundtrack, but at last it’s here. I saw the movie quite some time ago and even wrote down all of the songs from the movie, but it took the performance of “If I Rise” by A.R. Rahman and Florence Welch at the Oscars to stir me from my slumber and post at last. Strange, because the original song isn’t performed by Florence or her machines; it’s actually Dido. They didn’t win the award either – Randy Newman took home his second Academy Award, after 20 nominations.

“If I Rise” is one of 11 songs in the 127 Hours. Like “Jai Ho,” the A.R. Rahman song from Slumdog Millionaire, it certainly sets the tone of the film. It is triumphant and heartbreaking at the same time. The rest of the soundtrack consists of an interesting mix of Scooby Doo, surf music, classical songs and 70s anthems, not to mention the incomparable (or is that incomprehensible) but amazing Sigur Ros.

I really like the movie too. James Franco did an amazing job of keeping you interested and engaged, even in in the confines of a canyon. I much preferred the canyon to the Cast Away. I also was very happy that I saw 127 Hours on a 7 inch back-of-the-airplane-seat movie screen. Thankfully, not everything is shot in 3D. The tendon scene had me ripping at my own arm, and not in a good way. Damn that was rough.

Hope the wait for the soundtrack from 127 Hours hasn’t been too rough on you. Here’s the complete list of songs from 127 Hours in the order they appeared in movie and with notes on the scenes they were in. The soundtrack album to 127 Hours has a good number of the songs, but you can find the whole kaboodle here.

Here’s If You Love Me, but I could only find the Donna Loren version to embed:

And Bill Withers at his best with Lovely Day:

But the song that is having the most fun must be this flashback to Plastic Bertrand:

All 53 Songs from the Hall Pass Soundtrack

•February 26, 2011 • 2 Comments

There are 53 songs on the Hall Pass soundtrack, all of which you can find here. They did not release a soundtrack album for Hall Pass, but we’ve pulled them together here on Reelsoundtrack for your listening pleasure. It’s like the soundtrack producer took the Scooby Doo family van to Costco – most of the songs from the movie come in bulk. There are 4 songs from Deer Tick, 8 songs from Ellis Paul and two songs each from Empire of the Sun, Black Mountain and Peter Wolf.

There’s also some single serving goodness from Pete Yorn, Cypress Hill, Supergrass and Snow Patrol, not to mention the incredible “Everywhere I Go” by Lissie. If you’ve never seen her, heard her or chased down a show, then you are missing one of the most amazing voices and albums of the past year. Listen to this live version of the song and tell me you didn’t just fall in love.

I haven’ t gotten my hall pass to see Hall Pass yet, but I hope to soon. It looks like it’s funny as hell. Looking at the soundtrack list, I’ve been trying to figure out which portion is the soundtrack to Applebee’s.

There’s also some truly bizarre tunes on the Hall Pass soundtrack as well. There’s Drums & Bass by Hallo Kosmo, which is neither drums nor bass, but is actually quite fun. Psychic City’s Yacht qualifies to be on that list too. It sounds like that game I would play as a kid when you would make water sounds by flicking the side of your mouth: boooop, bhaaaapppp, baaahhhpppp.

But my favorite newly discovered song from the movie might just be “When They Fight They Fight” by The Generationals, as featured on the CMJ09 Vol. 3. Sampler:

Here’s the complete list of songs from Hall Pass, with links to the downloads for most of them. Stay tuned for the scenes to go along with the tunes:

Here’s the song Houston, TX by Deer Tick. I had not heard of them before, but there a good little alt rock countryesque band from Rhode Island:

Check out the sounds of the Shout Out Louds:

And Happy by Brookville:

All 5 Songs from the Unknown Soundtrack

•February 18, 2011 • 1 Comment

The movie Unknown features five songs including New Order’s Blue Monday and a couple Mediterranean tunes from Sultana Ensemble and Watcha Clan. Four of the five bands featured on the soundtrack were unknown to me before I listened to them here, but it’s a pretty good mix. Blue Monday has always been one of my favorite New Order songs. It’s an odd fit for the mix but not necessarily for the movie.

The previews for Unknown make it look a lot like it’s the sequel to Taken, except this time it’s Liam Neeson’s own identity that has been taken. I loved that movie, as intense and crazy as it was, and am hoping that Unknown will be as good.

The soundtrack album for Unknown only features the score by John Ottman, but you can find the rest of the soundtrack here. I was able to track down links for three of the five songs. Besides New Order and John Ottman, were any of these guys known to you before Unknown?

All 45 Songs from the Just Go With It Soundtrack

•February 12, 2011 • 6 Comments

There are 45 songs on the Just Go With It Soundtrack, but none are on the soundtrack album because they did not release one. We’ve pulled all of the songs together for your listening pleasure, with downloads for most of them. Here’s the basic formula for the soundtrack. It’s a mix most every romantic pop song that broke the top 10 in 2010, combined with a dozen Hawaiian classics and a healthy dose of songs from The Police. Just Go With It features Sean Kingston, B.O.B., Mike Posner, Rihanna and Snow Patrol just to name a few.

Not that that’s a bad thing. I like the majority of these songs. But it feels a bit like Now That’s What I Call 2010. If you kicked off a relationship in the past year, then this is probably just the right mix of music to take you down memory lane. In fact, you might even find yourself flashing back and forth between your life and scenes from the movie. If you flashback at just the right time, you will remember Madcon’s “Beggin” which was also featured in Step Up 3D. This is my favorite song among the mix. It plays when they are at the waterfall.

There are quite a few mash-ups of the Police songs in the movie, including a mix of Roxanne (Police) and You Should be Dancing (Bee Gees). I’m looking for a more comprehensive list of the mashups. In the meantime, here’s the video for Roxanne Should Be Dancing.

I also never get tired of “Waiting in Vain” by Annie Lennox. It was featured in Serendipity, but that was almost a decade ago. It’s about time the song made its way back into a romantic comedy.

As for the movie itself, I have an unhealthy addiction to Adam Sandler movies, of the 50 First Dates, Wedding Singer and Click variety, as well as the Happy Gilmore, Waterboy and Billy Madison variety, so I’m probably not an objective viewer. Critics may have thrashed it, but I always laugh like crazy, so I always say Just Go See It.

Here’s the complete list of all 45 songs from Just Go With It. They didn’t release a soundtrack album, so I hope this list helps piece the musical elements of the movie together for you.

Here’s the original video for Every Breath You Take by The Police:

Followed by the mashup of Every Breath You Take with Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. The mashup is called Every Car You Chase.

And one more song from Just Go With It including B.O.B. Lovelier Than You:

All 18 Songs From the Gnomeo and Juliet Soundtrack

•February 12, 2011 • 1 Comment

The Gnomeo and Juliet soundtrack includes 18 songs, 13 of which are by Elton John. The score also features snippets of a bunch of Elton John songs as well. You can even see an Elton Gnome in the movie, complete with piano and all. In fact, the only person more explicitly linked to the movie would be Shakespeare himself, who makes an appearance in animated statue form as Patrick Stewart.

Stewart, who is perhaps best known as Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek, is actually a veteran of Shakespeare theater. His part in the movie is one of many hidden Shakespearean references in the movie, from the truck carrying Tempest tea pots to “gnomes by any other name.” The best cameo of the movie goes to Hulk Hogan though as the Terrafirmanator, the most ridiculous home improvement megamachine you could imagine.

Gnomeo & Juliet is funny and entertaining, and the music is a lot of fun as well. My daughter even jumped up and danced at the end of the movie. Of the 13 Elton John songs in Gnomeo & Juliet, my favorite is probably Your Song, at least of the ones you can discern. Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer are great songs, but it was hard to discern the parts of the score that they were featured in. Bennie and the Jets is also one of my favorites, but it was tucked away as well.

Here’s the complete list of all 18 songs from Gnomeo and Juliet, with notes on the scenes most of them were in. The soundtrack album features 10 of the songs in it. You can find the downloads for them below.

All 22 Songs from The Roommate Soundtrack

•February 5, 2011 • 6 Comments

The did not release a soundtrack for The Roommate, but you can find all 22 songs from the movie here. The movie itself looks like Single White Female for the Gossip Girl set. The soundtrack could easily be featured in an episode of the show too. “The Focus” by X5 actually was featured in Gossip Girl. Perhaps the audience will remember and extend fandom to each.

The Roommate features a good mix of songs, including Temper Trap, Drew Smith, X5, Empire of the Sun and Blind Pilot. Blind Pilot is one of my favorite discoveries from the past year. I have a feeling that if more than six people see this movie, they are going to be a favorite for many more people as well. “The Story I Heard” is one of their best songs.

Folks are more likely to be familiar with Temper Trap. The song “Fader” is featured in The Roommate, while “Love Lost” was recently featured in No Strings Attached. Empire of the Sun has also been cropping up in a couple movies lately, having been featured in Cyrus last year. “We the People” is used in The Roommate. It is my favorite song from the album Walking on a Dream.

Here’s the complete list of all 22 songs from The Roommate. I was able to find links for most of them, but there are a number of songs and artists that I could not track down. Any help on this front would be appreciated. I’m also curious to hear about reviews of the movie. Was it a good scare or cheesy faire?

All 5 Songs from The Rite Soundtrack

•January 29, 2011 • 3 Comments

The soundtrack  for The Rite features the score from Alex Heffes. There are five other songs in the movie that are missing from the soundtrack album. It’s a bit of an interesting mix. In fact, I don’t quite know what to make of it. Not that it’s particularly strange, but it is pretty unique. The Rite soundtrack features music from The Derek Trucks Band, Maya Magub and Ensemble Elan.

In addition to the score from Alex Heffes, there is a separate song from him as well – All Clubbed Out. When I think of a thriller featuring Anthony Hopkins, the phrase “All Clubbed Out” isn’t the first to come to mind. That being said, Heffes scored the music for Inside Job and State of Play as well, so I am sure that there is plenty of tension built into his treatment.

Here’s the complete list of songs from The Rite. The downloads are a bit hit or miss, but I’m hoping the list will help you find what you are looking for:
