I Want To Be – Childhood Dreams (Aug 15, 2016)

img_0107

An unaltered story I wrote at age 11 for my creative writing exam (Grade 6, Zambia). Despite several (rather hilarious) grammatical errors, it always makes me chuckle and reminds me to dream big. Enjoy!

When I grow up I want to be an artist. I would like to be an artist because I generally love drawing. I would love to be well known as “Gome the artist…”

Young.Black.Unarmed (Feb 9, 2016)

Rev Arthur Prioleau A few months ago, I heard the sad story of 17 year old Laquan Macdonald – a young black man shot dead by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke. Laquan was shot 16 times in 14 seconds, and all this despite being unarmed. This case once again brought forward the issue of police brutality against black people in America.

Last Nights Weird Dream (#2) (Feb 3, 2016)

Blurred-lightsThere we were, all excited, about to canoe down the great river, beneath the blazing African sun. Leaving our group at the manor in the woods, we joked and strolled through natures back yard. A small clearing in the trees and we had reached our destination. There she was; splendid, majestic, yet calm.

Morning run thoughts (Aug 28, 2015)

So, I went for an early morning run the other day (6:30am #justsaying). It was my first run in months and not long into it, I stopped. Not because of my unbelievable lack of fitness at the time, or even due to another unexpected injury. It was, in fact, to soak up the amazing sound of silence – pure, unbridled, silence. Peace! The only thing I could hear…

imageDrumming: a new adventure (July 24, 2015)

Reflections on the past year and a half as a first time drummer and how different people and events have inspired me to take it up. Hope you can be inspired too. Enjoy! At the start of last year, I was fired up to set new goals that were ‘SMART’ (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound). It began with a fun, lengthy list…

imageLast nights weird dream (Mar 26, 2015)

All I remember is that a group of 10 close friends and I had robbed a bank for about £2.3 million. 4 of us then cheekily decided to ditch the group with all the money and run down an endless narrow staircase that was dimly lit. Closely pursued by armed police and angry friends that we tried to ditch, we burst through a door at the bottom into a dark…

10Football culture: an emotional connection (Feb 18, 2015)

Growing up in a family and community that was football crazy, it’s only natural that it’s become one of my passions in life – playing it, watching it, even talking about it. I remember goals from years ago, who scored them and on occasions…

1-1 Detail (near)Architecture: Isn’t that like 7 years? (Jan 28, 2015)

So I’ve just met someone for the first time and not long into our conversation, this tends to happen.

Person: “So, what do you do?” Me: “I study architecture and planning.” Person: “Oh wow! Architecture..isn’t that like 5 years?” Me: “Um… no, its actually 7 [UK standard] but its broken up…” Person: “7 years?????? That’s worse than being a doctor..” *My Head*: *think happy thoughts*.. *must think happy thoughts*

Sky Sports PicLearn generosity when you are poor (Jan 17, 2015)

“Each of you should give what you have decided to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). This verse struck me at a specific time last year when I was simply looking out for ‘number 1’ [myself] with little to no real regard for others. As a student…

IMG_0477My testimony – new life (Jan 14, 2015)

Find out the story of how I became a Christian (follower of Jesus), what that means for me now and how that affects my future.

I grew up in a calm, loving, Christian family as the youngest of 5 kids. I was brought up to believe in a God that loved me enough to die in my place even when I never knew I needed saving. As kids, we would…
