A highly impressive showing by Daniel Radcliffe “Harry Potter” as he Raps Blackalicious’ song “Alphabet Aerobics” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Had to share these 2 videos of Super Funny Kids!! They have both brought me laughs for days 🙂

Try not to let the length of this video deter you from watching it. This 5-foot-5 guy, Brandon Todd, is a great example of what can happen when you combine determination, dedication and dreams together. The strategy he used can be applied to many things, not just athletics. He wanted to accomplish something, so he did everything in his power, plus some to do so.

This is awesome! I love seeing technology being used for something as wonderful and useful as this. The billboard shown in this video is real and is Located in Lima, Peru. It literally creates water out of thin air by using a filtration system to convert humidity into 100s of gallons of life sustaining water.

I’m guilty

I try to step back and remember the days when our communication was predominantly done by phone (talking) or face to face. Compared to texting, liking, tweeting and browsing. But I haven’t quite determined if how we communicate today is all that bad. Because of these mediums I have come to chat and know a number of you, and without the internet it would not be possible. I’m thinking that it’s all about balance. Although, I do believe it would be healthier if your face to face communication outweighed your internet communication.

There is almost no other way I could get updates on dozens of my friends in a matter of minutes like I can on Facebook. It’s like a daily newspaper that includes stories, obituaries, photos, events and comics all created by my friends and family. Or take the blog feed here where I get to be a part of each one of your shares.

Since, my injury and having my driving privileges taken away I have had to lean on the internet to feed my desire of communication more times than not. I know it’s not the best thing, but sometimes it’s the only thing.

So, yes I’m Guilty of clicking, liking, and internet relationships, but is it really all that bad? Are we creating a touch-less emotionally sparse means of communication? Or are we reaching people and their minds and hearts that otherwise would not be possible? I know I’m enriched by a lot of what you all post, share and write.

What is normal?

The other day I started thinking about What Is Normal? Yeah, I know I’ve been on this earth long enough that I should have already thought about this, ha. I mainly thought of this because I tend to put a lot of pressure and stress on myself in thinking I should be doing this or that by this point in my life. But why do we do that? Why do we think we should fit a certain mold or follow a certain track? In my opinion it’s society and/or what we see in the media. I don’t know of any book or absolute rule in existence that tells us what weight we should be, who we should love, when we should marry, how much money we should make, when to have children…This list could go on and I’m sure you could think of some yourself.

Like the image above says, normal is purely subjective. I had a thought the other day that looked further into this concept:

What is normal?

Alright I created a video to accompany this post and in spite of my fear of making and posting it, here it is:

This video not only because not only is it super funny, but it also very true…at least for me it is. This fantastically funny video What kind of Asian are you? looks at the ignorance of assuming someone is foreign based on appearance. I never know the politically correct term when asking someone where they are from from??…Like do you say what’s your heritage? Where are your parents from? What’s your ethnicity?

And I completely love her reaction to the white American guy’s question by asking him where he was from from. Of course he goes straight to saying he’s from America, and she responds with oh so you are Native American? Think about that for a second we are Americans are also foreigners unless we are the truly Native American.

I have seen this video everywhere the past few days and I refrained from clicking on it the first 5 times I saw it posted somewhere. Well I  guess 6 sightings is my breaking point because here it is, ha. This video was posted less than a week ago on May 30, 2013 and has close to 2 million views at the moment. I’m sure it will get millions more and you’ll see it shared in other places too. But I’m placing it here so maybe you’ll fall victim to it like I did 🙂

space oddity

During a 5 month stint on the International Space Station a Canadian astronaut named Chris Hadfield documented his time by posting  Twitter photographs and YouTube videos (Both of these grew immensely following his posts from space). And to celebrate his last day aboard the craft he released a rendition of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” Once the video was uploaded to YouTube it was viewed more than a million times in the 18 hours.

The “Space Oddity” cover was something Hadfield had wanted to do and had began planning for before he left earth on December 19. Due to a healthy dose of international copyright issues, he needed to work with Bowie himself and his team, NASA and the Canadian Space Agency before his launch in December.

Some may ask why he would do this. Chris Hadfield hinted at some possible reasoning in a different farewell-to-space video: “Who’d have thought that five months away from the planet would make you feel closer to people?” he asked. “Not closer because I miss them — just closer because seeing this [experience] this way and being able to share it through all the media that we’ve used has allowed me to get a direct reflection back immediately from so many people. … It makes me feel like I’m actually with people more, that we’re having a conversation. That this experience is not individual, but it’s shared and it’s worldwide.”

I believe this also was an amazing way to put the space program back on the map. Especially, with the recent closing of the Space Shuttle Program.

Kony-2012-Who-Is-Joseph-Kony

With more than 100 million views in six days, Kony 2012, a 30-minute documentary about Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Kony, became not only the Top Viral Video Of 2012, but also the most viral video in history according to statistics conducted by Visible Measures.

11_15_15_836_file

Kony 2012 was a short film created by an organization called Invisible Children, Inc. The film’s purpose was to promote the charity “Stop Kony”, while raising awareness concerning the International Criminal Court fugitive Joseph Kony to have him arrested by the end of 2012, when the campaign expired.

Between it’s release on March 5, 2012 and October 17, 2012, the film had over 94 million views on video-sharing website YouTube, and over 16.6 million views on Vimeo making it the top viral video of 2012 . The drastic amount of traffic actually caused the “Kony 2012” website to crash for a short period. A poll went so far as claiming that more than half of young American adults heard about Kony 2012 in one way or another.

Despite the rapid rise of the video it brought a shower of criticism to the supporting organization, Invisible Children. Many naysayers targeted the practices of Invisible Children at the organizational level, versus the true focus of the video to expose whether or not Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, was a war criminal.

holstee_manifesto_wp_by_kybrdgal-d302n6t

The Holstee manifesto has been an unexpected successful creation by the Brooklyn-based apparel company Holstee. The company was founded on selling sustainably sourced consumer goods, however the poster of the manifesto is now one of Holstee’s best-selling items. At one point, they sold out of it with a four-week back-order. The manifesto has been translated into 12 languages, and has been viewed an approximate 50 plus million times.

Of course my hopeless romantic self gravitated towards the line: If you are looking for the love of your life, STOP; They will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love.

I never thought about that before. I guess I always feel this external pressure to make it happen and actively search versus doing what I love and letting it surprisingly bump into or find me.

charlie chaplin speech

The backbone of the video below is a Charlie Chaplin speech given in the movie “The Great Dictator“, shot in 1940. I had never heard this before and was so glad that I finally did yesterday. This video and it’s message is amazing. It’s one of those make your throat burn and eyes leak videos, at least for me it was. It reminds us to snap out of it and realize the beauty and kindness that’s out there, and to pursue it in spite of all the calamity and evil that’s also present. You can find renditions of this all over YouTube, but this was the best one in my opinion that I came across. Enjoy!

Some incidents in our past are so terrible that they can’t ever be forgotten, but you can always remember what it taught you. And Shane Koyczan is a perfect example of this. Shane Koyczan, an amazing poet gives us priceless insight about the impact of bullying through his own special poetic narrative called “To This Day”.

To This Day Project is a project based on a spoken word poem written by Shane Koyczan called “To This Day”, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.

Schools and families are in desperate need of proper tools to confront this problem. We can give them a starting point… A message that will have a far reaching and long lasting effect in confronting bullying.

Just a few memorable parts:

At 1:00, imagine being removed because of it

At 1:14, you can hear the pain and disgust

At 1:25, do you remember hearing that?

At 1:37, indescribable pain

At 2:25, kids can’t even be kids

At 3:00, I got goose bumps…powerful

I love watching and/or hearing about transformations like Arthur’s Inspirational Transformation. There’s just something about our ability to overcome the most difficult obstacles once we put our mind to it.
