At a cafe all alone
Without a poem
Imperfectly arranged
to be
a part of living
And looking for the good stuff
And hoping that is enough

to be
a part of living
And looking for the good stuff

Iām not bereft
Because Iām not deprived
ā¦feeling quite happy to be alive
Although if I werenāt alive
I never would know
and happiness and contentment
would have no place to go
But I digressā¦
At the moment I am inā¦all is well
What happens nextā¦
You never can tell!

Having coffee in a caffĆØ
--a light roast
With contraband, gluten-free
--cinnamon toast
People all around the place
seem happy and at ease
Peaceful place to write on a napkin
shop on-line or read
Someone even has a newspaper
which you don't see much anymore
If coffee cost less than $3.30 plus tip
I'd come here even more!

Walking downtown
...to Sarkozy Bakery
Where coffee is the best
...for less
Than anywhere else
...in town
With pastries and bread
It all goes to my head
On this sunny day
...with buds
...on the trees
...and the promise of spring
...in the breeze
Fresh

Cold coffee – one cup
One frozen banana
Chocolate almond-cashew – milk 1/4 cup or so
One tablespoon ground flax seed
Throw it all in a blender and purƩe
Oddly enough, this tasted really good to me!
I’m trying to get away from needing half and half in my coffee and this was kind of an elaborate way around it!

Table made by my husband, Jesse.
I am still looking for a substitute that tastes EXACTLY like cream in coffee and is not dairy-related.Ā I’ve tried almond milk, soy creamer, coconut, cashew and every variation of those.Ā Ā The taste is, hmmm, what is the accurate description?Ā Ā Ā The taste is……not creamy. They are just poor substitutes and simply missing that essentialĀ flavor I have learned to love.Ā So the solution, it seems, is to just keep that small amount of dairy (3 to 4 tablespoons per day) ORĀ learn to live without it if that small amount is a deal breaker for me and/or the cows involved.
Maybe my tastes will eventually change.Ā That has happened with other dairy products.Ā But just in case there is something wonderful to use and you know about it:Ā TELL ME!
Thank you and good day.Ā I said good day.

It’s because I’m tired
That’s why I feel this way
Sleep eluded meĀ at night
for hours, I would say
It’s just because I’m tired
and soon, I’ll be okay

Might š¤ Maybe
Maybe it grounds me a bit to be here at my nearby coffee shop. The fact that I think it might be excessive might be why I fear that it might be unwise. But reminder: even if itās every day, which it is not, itās still cheaper than therapy and drugsāwith fewer negative side effects; other than unhealthy second-guessing and self-recrimination.
(A job can ground a person, too, but being retired, I would need to get a job and Iād rather not at this time. Enough already of 50 years of that for awhile!
Unlike a job, this allows me to write or draw or read. All those things can be done at home – and often are – but here I am not distracted by other home things to do and I can be in a more social environment.)
Anyway, thatās my story and Iām sticking to it. Until it becomes tedious instead of uplifting. Someday I might not care or I might become too old to do things independently.
Maybe. Maybe not.
