The Legend Of Boggy Creek (1972)(Charles B. Pierce) - Retro Cinema Rewind!

Written By: Ken Hulsey

This weekend, I decided to revisit my DVD collection and watch my copy of "The Legend of Boggy Creek" after seeing the "Monster Quest" episode about the "Fouke Monster," also known as "The Swamp Stalker of Boggy Creek," earlier in the week.

During the Monster Quest episode, several scenes from Charles B. Pierce's film were shown, which motivated me to dust off my DVD and share it with my family. I’ve always considered the film a great scary movie, but after doing some research about it, I gained even more respect for Pierce and the work he created.

Today In History: George Washington unanimously elected first U.S. president

George Washington, a well-respected leader and the commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, made history by being unanimously elected as the very first president of the United States. All 69 presidential electors cast their votes for him, which was truly a remarkable show of support. His running mate, John Adams from Massachusetts, secured the position of vice president with 34 votes.

Modern Sightings Of Bigfoot in Southern California - Tales of the Unexplained!

 Written By Ken Hulsey

In 2010, I wrote a series of articles about local legends in Southern California. These articles featured stories about sea monsters, lizard men, UFOs, and, of course, Bigfoot. The series was well received by readers and many of the articles were featured on local websites. In 2012, my wife, Terri, and I concluded the series with a joint effort titled "A Brief History of Bigfoot in Southern California." This piece summarizes many local stories recorded throughout history, dating back to the 1700s. Since its publication, this story has been quoted in numerous articles about Bigfoot and linked to by several cryptozoology websites.

Jose Tequila's in Marshall, Texas - The Best Darn Mexican Food I've Had in a Long Time!

 Written By Ken Hulsey

Yesterday, I traveled back to the eastern Texas town of Marshall around dinner time. Whenever I visit Texas, I always try to enjoy some Mexican food because it's generally much better than what I get back home in Louisiana. Since I wasn't familiar with the area, I turned to Google to look for nearby restaurants and check their reviews. I found one that looked great and had excellent ratings, so I entered the coordinates and headed over.

Louisiana Through My Lens - Why is there a Cannon embedded in a Baton Rouge Sidewalk?

Anyone walking down 3rd Street in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, may notice a strange cylindrical metal object sticking out of the sidewalk. The object is quite obscure, leading many to believe it could be an old sewer pipe or something similar. Most people who pass by tend not to give it a second thought.

However, if you happen to be curious about this unusual object embedded in the sidewalk, a nearby historical marker might provide some clues.

Unlocking Abundance: How Surrendering Can Multiply Your Blessings | Pastor Steve Roberts | The Daily Ascend

 By Steven Roberts

In this message, based on 2 Kings 4:1–7, we examine the significant narrative of the widow and her jar of oil. This story provides insights into themes of faith, obedience, and the importance of creating space for divine intervention. It highlights the principle that God can multiply what we offer to Him; He fills what we make room for in our lives. Importantly, God's provision is limitless, while our capacity to receive can often feel constrained. For those who feel emptied, overwhelmed, or are seeking a breakthrough, this message serves as encouragement to present your “empty jar” to God and have faith in His ability to fill it.

Railroading In The South | January 2026 | Trains in Arkansas & Louisiana | Rails West

Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey

We are well into 2026, and I’ve promised myself to do a better job of sharing my railroad photos. Although I didn’t take many pictures in January, I really like the ones I did capture. These photos were taken in my usual spots, including Leesville, Bunkie, and Baton Rouge in Louisiana, as well as Ashdown and DeQueen in Arkansas.

The Mark of El Kabong (1961) - Quick Draw McGraw | Hanna-Barbera | Retro Saturday Morning

 Story By Ken Hulsey

Growing up, I was captivated by the delightful Hanna-Barbera cartoon shorts of the 1960s and '70s. Among my favorites was the character Quick Draw McGraw and his swashbuckling alter ego, El Kabong. In the final episode of *The Quick Draw McGraw Show*, the guitar-strumming equine hero once again donned his Zorro-esque El Kabong costume to heroically save the residents of San Chihuahua from the evil tyranny of General Badguyos.

The Adventures of Sarah Walker aka "Six Gun Sarah"!

 Written By Ken Hulsey

The townspeople of Alamito, a small town in southwest Texas, faced a serious problem. For over a month, a group of seven robbers had been raiding the town, stealing everything they could get their hands on. The residents of Alamito didn't have much to begin with; they were a group of settlers eking out a meager existence by raising a few cattle and tending small farms. These bandits were stripping away everything the townspeople needed to survive on the arid plains.

A Late-Night Drive on I-5 Turns Mysterious After Strange Lights Appear Over Los Angeles | Tales of the Unexplained

On the night of January 22, 2026, an extraordinary phenomenon was witnessed by an individual traveling north on the I-5 freeway, approaching the outskirts of Los Angeles. As they navigated through the Newhall Pass area, their attention was drawn to a sequence of peculiar lights stably positioned in the sky. This remarkable sighting, observed for several miles, involved the presence of four large, luminous orbs arranged in a perfect horizontal arc, which suggested a level of organization that set it apart from typical aerial phenomena.

Bob's Big Boy Burbank, California - A Real Blast From The Past!

Written By Ken Hulsey

During a trip back to California, Terri and I had the pleasure of dining at the oldest remaining Bob's Big Boy in Burbank. This restaurant is a perfectly preserved example of what the dining experience was like in the decades following World War II. Wrapped in neon lights, the Bob's in Burbank serves as both a restaurant and a museum.

Cleopatra 2525 - From The Land Of Forgotten Television - Retro TV Rewind

Cleopatra 2525 is an intriguing American science fiction television series that delighted viewers during its run from January 2000 to March 2001, airing in syndication for two adventurous seasons. The show originally kicked off as part of the Back2Back Action Hour, paired with another action-packed series, Jack of All Trades. Interestingly, the initial idea from the producers was for a show titled "Amazon High," featuring a young woman, played by Monica McSwain, who travels back in time. Though this concept only made it to the pilot stage, some of the footage was creatively repurposed for a "Xena: Warrior Princess" episode called "Lifeblood." The producers later reimagined their concept, giving birth to what we know as "Cleopatra 2525."

Today in Texas History - The Republic Passes Homestead Law

On this day in 1839, the Congress of the Republic of Texas took a significant step forward by passing two noteworthy pieces of legislation. The first, a homestead act, aimed to promote home ownership throughout the republic. Drawing some inspiration from earlier legislation in Coahuila, this act ensured that every citizen or head of family was entitled to "fifty acres of land or one town lot, along with their homestead and any improvements not exceeding five hundred dollars in value." It was a forward-thinking initiative intended to establish roots for families in their own land.

Beyond Our Comfort: Let Compassion Light our Path: Supporting Our Neighbors in Need | Miracle Mindset

 Written By Ken Hulsey

Sometimes, when you sit down to write a daily devotional or even a sermon, you may have an idea that has been on your mind for days or hours before you begin typing. As always, prayer and conversations with the Lord are integral to this process. I had initially planned to discuss a serious topic about faith this morning, but upon waking, I felt a more pressing issue weighing on my heart and soul.

Josh Farley Presents: Magic Across America - An Amazing Night of Illusion & Comedy!

 Written By Ken Hulsey

Our family loves illusionists, and last night we were thrilled to catch Josh Farley's show at the Huckleberry Brewing Company in Alexandria, Louisiana, as part of his 50 States in 50 Weeks Tour. We were fortunate to secure exclusive VIP tickets (which I highly recommend if you plan to see one of his future shows!) that allowed us to enjoy a private meet-and-greet and an up-close performance with Josh.

First and foremost, Josh is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He is passionate about his craft and loves to share his story with others. He spent around 45 minutes with a small group of us, discussing his life and career, as well as a bit about the history of illusionists. It was truly a magical experience (See what I did there).

King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) - Classic Monster Showdown | Toho | Retro Cinema Rewind

 Written By Ken Hulsey

The 1933 American classic "King Kong" had a profound influence on Asian filmmakers. As soon as the iconic monster movie hit the scene, Japanese studios began producing their own "Kong" adaptations, like "Wasei Kingu Kongu" and "Edo Ni Arawarita Kingu Kongu," both featuring actors in gorilla costumes. The film also left a lasting impact on two legends of Japanese cinema - director Ishiro Honda and special effects pioneer Eiji Tsuburaya. Years later, this duo combined their talents to create the cinematic monster icon "Gojira" (Godzilla). For Tsuburaya in particular, "King Kong" held a special place, as the young cameraman studied the film frame-by-frame to learn how its groundbreaking visual effects were achieved. This hands-on analysis would inspire Tsuburaya's own storied career in movie magic.
