Racism is in Such Short Supply, Folks are Making it Up

Here's a 2019 list of faux hate crimes. I'll update it when I find a more current one, or when Instapundit does, as it's where I found this one. Continue Reading

Tee Vee Spreading Misinformation

In other news, water is wet.

Network TV shows are premiering now, and many are based on the circumstances of the past few months.

There's one on now, where the story line is "phony N95 masks are killing people".

Folks, N95 masks, or any mask with an exhalation valve, are not appropriate for prevention of the Wuhan virus.

They are worn when entering a TB positive room (or similar). They protect the wearer only.

We React Accordingly

They are at it again.

A few seconds of video, a picture, and bam! We are outraged!

On cue, we react accordingly.

The black community reacts accordingly because this is the *only* time the media pays any attention to them. Dozens of beautiful minds murdered every week in places like Chicago, St Louis, Memphis, Camden, etc., but not a peep out of the media, other than the obligatory body count.

Outside the black community, others react accordingly as well. Some by signaling their virtue with outrage, others by apologizing.

Some, the opportunist leftists, create havoc.

Some, admittedly, are generally concerned. Unfortunately, the toppling of statues, desecration of gravesites, etc. by the opportunists muffles their calls for real action.

In the end, things will go back to a semblance of normal, but there will be some incremental change, other than a lack of historical statuary, that will eventually form the pile of socialism that is building in the US.

The Newest Example...

... of "Beclowning Oneself"  HAS to go to Piers Morgan after his Twitter exchange with Dana Loesch, and others. Here's my favorite:

Sorry. For exposing your lack of knowledge of guns.
He said that after incorrectly using the term "assault rifle"*, made up a caliber and invented the "AT-16"**

Not to mention Dana knows her shit.

This nancy boy really needs to keep talking, he represents everything wrong with the anti-gun movement.

* I've been concerned with the media swapping assault rifle with assault weapon, but this time it worked in our favor

** I don't usually ride people for obvious mis-types, but he did it first. Goose sauce, etc.

Thank You, David Gregory...

... for proving to the world that laws against ammunition magazines exceeding 10 rounds is one of the stupidest and most useless laws on the books. You shouldn't be arrested for having one on your show, in blatant violation of Washington DC's law against the possession of such things.

No one should.

The AR was in the trunk?

Reporting on the CT tragedy was spotty at best, and one of the things that changed was the presence of a Bushmaster .223 at the scene vs found in the trunk of the car.

This video seems to show it being checked out in the trunk.

What y'all think?

Now to find out where the "second shooter" went. The one found in the woods who yelled "I didn't do it" as he was led off by police. At least that's what I heard early on. Kinda specific to be a mistake. Continue Reading

40% of Gun Sales...

... are done without a background check. That's the number being floated by NPR and other unbiased news sources.

My question is, what is the source of this number? Is it 40% of all gun sales, or the ones at gun shows? I've heard it both ways.

Seeing as private sales are, well, private,  I find that number to be suspect at best, complete horseshit at worst.

I'm leaning towards choice B. Continue Reading

You ever notice?

On TV - cop shows, commercials, etc., are more likely to have a character with a British/Aussie accent than one with a Southern accent?

It's almost like there's stereotyping going on.

And, if you REALLY want to see some stereotyping, watch the Cold Case episode "The Red and the Blue", where the crew travels to Tennessee on a case. Lots of  references to boots and belt buckles to start off, then the stereotypes come flying in:

The Nashville Police Chief is called "Big Daddy", and, at one point, a girl says to her boyfriend "I know I can't offer what a city girl has to offer" (I almost spit my been on that one)

Lots more, but you get the picture.

I never really liked that show in the first place, too "look how bad we were then, and how enlightened we are now", but that was the episode that pushed me over the edge.

Let me get this straight

CBS does a miniseries about the Reagans, Reagan fans get mad and squash it, and it was a Good Thing.

Now, the History Channel does a series about the Kennedys, Kennedy fans get mad and squash it, and it's a Bad Thing?

Am I getting this right?

And yes, I am aware The Reagans aired on Showtime, and I'm sure The Kennedys will air somewhere as well, even though Showtime has already said it won't do it.

Maybe the real test of broadcast bias will be how far down the food chain The Kennedys will have to go to get on air....

Hey! It's the Narrative!

Or is it a meme?

From Richard Locker at the Memphis Commercial Squeal:

Tennesseans rejected price-gouging charges and overlooked a late stumble over gun issues to elect Republican Bill Haslam as their 49th governor Tuesday.
From Ken Whitehouse at the Nashville City Paper:
In the past few weeks, Haslam's message faltered amid concerns that he would — as he said two weeks ago — sign legislation to abolish gun permits if the legislature passed it.
How can someone stumble, falter and win with a 3 to 1 margin?

Only in the alternate reality that is the liberal legacy media.

Looks Like Kuharsky Does Have it in for Vince Young

Why do I say that? Please read the following:

Fisher’s not going to criticize his quarterback [VY] in public because he knows it would hurt the quarterback’s fragile confidence. Heck, he never criticized McNair who was at the complete opposite end of the toughness spectrum.
So, he never criticized McNair. He also never criticized Collins, Smith, Ramsay, O'Donnell, Mauck, Simms, or even Volek*, but he never criticized Young because of his "fragile confidence"? Sounds to me like he doesn't criticize his players because it's unprofessional and counterproductive to team cohesion. So, why the dig at Young?

Your bias is showing, Paul.

* Calling someone a liar in so may words isn't criticism, is it? Continue Reading

Mexican Gun Canard, Yet Again

Here's what happens when half-assed reports get put online. They get looked at, and exposed as half assed. The latest version of the Mexican gun canard comes from a paper from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Mexico Institute . In it we are told:

In May 2010, for example, the Mexican government, which has received training from ATF to better identify firearms, said that of the 75,000 firearms it seized in the last three years about 80 percent, or 60,000 firearms, came from the United States.18
But, footnote 18 takes us here, where it actually says (emphasis mine):
Calderón said his government had seized 75,000 guns in Mexico in a three-year period and found that 80 percent of those whose origin could be traced were bought in the United States.
We've heard that before, and what it means is that 60,000 is way, way high. Here is a good explanation of what is really going on. Short answer: 17% of the guns used in Mexican crime are traced back to the US.

That footnote also links to another article (you can have two references per footnote? Must be a "scholars only" thing) that omits the "whose origin could be traced" part and gives them what they wanted to hear in the first place:
Mr. Calderon told a joint session of Congress that of the 75,000 guns seized by Mexican authorities over the last three years, 80 percent are traced to the U.S.
Shoddy work, Kara Rowland, shoddy, shoddy, shoddy.

They keeping throwing crap on the wall to see if it will stick, we keep washing it off.

So be it.

Knock Me Over With a Feather

You could have, after I read this:

Chris Peck: Why I'm a member of the NRA

Chris, you see, is the editor of our local puppy trainer, The Commercial Squeal, noted for its consistently anti-gun messages. He doesn't really convince me he's for gun rights. He does address the NRA's recent victories, but then he says this:

The NAACP, once as powerful and well-oiled a public-interest group as the NRA, struggled to stay relevant after the civil rights battles of the 1960s. The NAACP won the legal battles that eventually led to less-segregated schools, more access to the polls for African-Americans, and blazed a path for a new generation of young people who blithely assumed their more tolerant world was the way it has always been.

Yet these very victories, along with the bruises that came with them, set the stage for a difficult and ongoing transition for the 21st century NAACP. Some people suffered from diversity fatigue. Others simply concluded the work of the NAACP was largely done.

Could a similar struggle be ahead for the NRA?

Highly doubtful, Chris, for this one reason: the NAACP refused to change with the times. It refused to give up its original focus and kept crying "RACISM" in the face of societal change.

Also, the NRA does a lot, lot more than fight political battles. You'd know that if you knew ANYthing about the NRA.

I noticed that at no point does Chris say he's a member because he believes in the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

I have a feeling he's a member of the NRA for the same reason I get updates from the Brady Campaign - know thy enemy.

UPDATE: Shootin' buddy, for the win:

Chris, we are not stopping until you can buy handguns in vending machines at airports, gun classes are mandatory in junior high and high school, and owning an M16A2 (or whatever the line weapon of the U.S. Militree is) is mandatory.

LOL.

Las Vegas Review - Journal Sues the Internets

Well, the parts that link to their website, anyway:

According to news reports, Righthaven LLC [parent company of above mentioned "newspaper"] has reportedly filed lawsuits against 75 other political websites and/or blogs without prior contact or attempt at resolution. The sites include FreeRepublic.com, the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative and the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
The Armed Citizen is one of the best resources in the fight for gun rights, let's hope some national organization that advocates gun rights gets their legal eagles on the case.

Commercial Fail

Much like Uncle's wondering why Wendy's was using a song about drugs and masturbation, I have to wonder why Jeep is using the song "God's Gonna Cut You Down" in their latest spot. They don't use the lyrics, of course, but if they did...

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light
Isn't Jeep part of a bailout corporation?
