Wheat and Beet Days

Ben's dad and step mom live up in Garland and every year they have their founder's day, which is called Wheat and Beet days. Garland when it was first founded was full of wheat and beet fields and they sold them to get the little town started. Still a small town, but full of spirit. The day began with a parade and ended with fireworks in the park. Nelson and Deann (Ben's dad and step mom) are in charge of the cook shack, every year. They stock it full of supplies and they even work in there. So this year Ben, Gabbi and I helped them in the cook shack. Ben and his dad manned the grill the entire day. Neither of them left the grill, it was extremely hot over there. Gabbi and I took the first shift only because Gabbi was fussy and I knew we could only stand one shift, but we helped Deann in the front with the cash register, taking orders, and supplying drinks and chips for those who ordered. I carried Gabbi in her carrier back pack and half way through the shift she had fallen asleep, thank heaven. But when she woke up she was not that happy. So we tried laying her down in he car seat by the fan and she went back to sleep until our shift was over. While Ben stayed cooking with his dad, I went back to Nelson's house to take care of Gabbi. After a while I went back to the park and walked around to all the booths to see what they had. They had jumping toys for the kids and lots of souvenirs to buy. Later on they even had a baseball game going. Then they ended the night with the fireworks. The wind was blowing slightly so as the fireworks dissipated they would swirl around and it was beautiful. A very tiring day, but a very full fulling fun day.

Gabbi's Blessing Day

Gabbi was blessed June 1, 2008, in the Rock Cliff 7th ward. Ben was proud to be able perform the blessing. He asked Father's, brother's, brother-in-law's and grandfathers to join him in the circle to perform the blessing. It was a great day. We were surrounded by family and friends from both sides. Afterwards we went to my parent's home and we enjoyed a luncheon with all those who were able to come. The weather was great and everyone had a great time. Gabbi was a little fussy and it was hard to not be upset that everything wasn't working out with her. She ended up sleeping in my mom's arms inside the house. Not many people got to see her or even hold her. I felt bad, but everyone told me, "She's just a baby and she is expected to act that way, it's been a long day for her." I still felt bad though. We weren't even able to get pictures of her with family. But we will get some eventually. Over all it was a sweet experience.
