Date Night

Ben needed a break from school so we decided to make it a date night. We looked up a few different things that we could do, we just wanted somethings fun. Sadly there wasn't much outside what we normally do and we landed on going to see a movie. We choose to go see Just Mercy. I had seen previews and it looked pretty good. I like movies that go hand in hand with historic and life events. I was looking forward to seeing. On the plus side, Ben could get extra credit in one of his classes for watching it and doing a small review.

After situating the kids, Ben and I headed to the theater. We went to a theater that we had never been to before and I couldn't believe how much more expensive it was than the Megaplex. They had a military discount, but it was hardly anything, $.50 a person. I haven't spent that much on movie tickets in the longest time. That meant no snacks from the concession counter. With that we headed straight to the theater and found our seats.
The movie was really good. Some don't find these types of shows as entertaining as I do, but it was really well done. A good representation of what happened in this particular event and time. It was the story of a Harvard graduate, Bryan Stevenson who heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18 year old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian's life.
