Once I was done with William's conference we were able to go home until it was time for Owen's. Again I had originally planned do have his conference over Zoom, but decided I'd rather have it in person and again the teacher was willing to accommodate me.
When it was time for Owen's conference, he and I got in the van and headed to the school. When inside, I followed him to his classroom. When we got the the end of the hall, he showed me some of the artwork that was posted on the wall. He wasn't very happy with his, but I thought it looked fine. When we got to his classroom, she was actually on a Zoom conference and told us that she'd come out and get us when she was ready.
It didn't take long before she was out in the hallway letting us know that we could come in the classroom. When we did, she directed us to a table that she had set up for the inperson conferences. She even offered us some homemade hard candies that she had made herself. Owen said she brings them all the time to class. I told him to pick one out for me and he picked a purple and white one. After putting it in my mouth, I had to agree with Owen opinion that they are really rummy.
Once the candy was out of the way, she pulled out Owen' s paperwork to show me how he was doing. I couldn't believe how well he was doing. She said that since school started he hadn't missed a beat. The first few weeks of school he, of course like everyone, needed some catch considering how the last school year ended, but since then, he had thrived and flourished.
She showed me his test scores and he was at or above his grade level in every section. She also showed me the math concepts test and again he was at grade level or just above it. She said that one was at a 2nd grade level, but because of the end score it shouldn't have said that, so she didn't worry about it. With his scores, she said she's not worried about him at all. She then showed me some of his writing and math assignments and again said that she didn't have any worries with Owen.
With all the work out of the way, She said that she loved having him in class. She said that he was helpful in class and always looked for way to befriend and be kind to those in class. She raved about his happy demeanor and positive attitude despite a few bumps in the road getting used to being back in a classroom. That was a lot better than I thought it would be, especially since his reports last year were somewhat concerning.
With that, she handed me the pile of paperwork and said that there was nothing else unless we had any questions. We didn't, and stood to leave. She thanked us for coming and said goodbye.
