Last week in Sam's intramural softball semi-finals game he took a line drive to his ring finger. His nail got jammed back and popped through his skin below his cuticle and the the tip of this finger was unnaturally hanging down. Yep, he broke it and it was bleeding quite a bit. Since he is on a team of med students they all looked at it and decided that it was broken. However, Sam still wanted to play in the game so he decided that he would clean it up, snap it back in place and have his buddy tape it up. SERIOUSLY??!! Good thing I wasn't at the game! He continued playing in the rest of the game, hitting and fielding the best he could. I don't know if it was manliness or stupidity!! His team actually ended up winning that game and the next day was to be the championship game. On the way home Sam called his buddy who is a orthopedic resident and told him what happened and was told to come see him in the morning. He went into his office and got it x-rayed and it was confirmed that it was indeed broken. His friend said that he could have surgery and get pins put in it or wear a splint for 4 weeks. Of course, we have opted for the splint. Supposedly, Sam is to have full mobility and no permanent damage to his finger.
Sam actually did play in the championship game and did pretty well. Finally, an intramural Champion!! His team was really excited!!
The finger

The old med school men team. They can still whoop up on the young undergrad guys! Sam really does go to school with a bunch of nice guys. This is the picture that is going to go up in the rec center!

With dad after the big victory!! He loved going to the games. He liked playing with the dogs there more than watching the game. I know James' outfit is awful! He was wearing a striped romper and no socks or shoes when we arrived at the game. As it got later it started to get colder and this is the jacket and socks that were in the diaper bag. All pieces cute individually but NOT together! Too many different colored stripes! Haha!
