INTERACT Non-Profit Association is an INTERACT (EUH2020 project) initiative. INTERACT - International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic - is a network of 99 terrestrial field bases scattered across all Arctic countries and in adjacent northern boreal and alpine areas. INTERACT has become a popular platform for scientific collaboration and for facilitating field work in the Arctic. With around 15,000 researchers accessing over 90 research stations annually, providing advice to governments, reaching millions through outreach, offering educational resources in over 60 countries, and practicing science diplomacy, INTERACT has been recognized as an 'EU Success story' multiple times. INTERACT Non-Profit Association offers the INTERACT stations as a long-term science platform to implement scientific priorities and address societal challenges at local to global levels.

Co-Designing an International Polar Year Arctic Access Programme On 9 October 2026, INTERACT will host the workshop “Co-Designing an IPY Arctic Access Programme” during the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik. We are developing a new International Polar Year Arctic Access Programme (IPY-AAP) to facilitate access to Arctic research infrastructures and their data, supporting research aligned with IPY and ICARP IV priorities. We are excited that Dr Alicia V. Perera-Castro has been awarded INTERACT Transnational Access funding to carry out her research at Kilpisjärvi Biological Station in northern Finland this year. The funding opportunity opened last year for research teams planning fieldwork at northern research stations, and after a long preparation phase, the team is now getting ready to head into the field. Interested in Arctic field research? Come and work with me at Toolik Field Station. Toolik Field Station is hiring a full-time, year-round Environmental Data Center Research Technician. Position Summary: Toolik Field Station (TFS) is a research station operated and managed by the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). Toolik Field Station and the surrounding areas are located on the ancestral hunting grounds of the Nunamiut, and occasional hunting grounds and routes of the Gwichin, Koyukuk, and Inupiaq peoples. TFS provides logistical, operational, and scientific support to visiting scientists conducting Arctic research. TFS is a remote facility located 360 road miles north of Fairbanks on the rural Dalton Highway. There are no local services. The population of the station can vary from 3 to 150 residents (over 400 different individuals annually) coming from all over the world. While remote, TFS is like a small village during the summer months. The Spatial and Environmental Data Center (SEDC) at TFS is seeking a full time, year-round, Environmental Data Center Technician to join our team. The Environmental Data Center (EDC) offers support to the science community in four ways; 1) collection of long-term baseline environmental and biological data, 2) management of common-use field and laboratory equipment, 3) assistance with field work, and 4) remote access (collecting data for scientific projects when their personnel cannot be on-site). The EDC Technician will work under the supervision of the SEDC Manager and alongside the meteorological station technician, seasonal technicians, and interns to fulfill these four objectives. 📢 Welcome to the INTERACT network! We are delighted to welcome Tsambagarav Research Station in Mongolia as the newest member of the INTERACT Non-Profit Association. Located at 2,300 metres in the Tsambagarav mountain range and operated by the Khovd Branch School of the National University of Mongolia, the station supports glaciological and alpine ecosystem research, contributing valuable knowledge on glaciers, climate and mountain environments. Its membership expands the INTERACT network into Central Asia's high mountains, strengthening our expertise in cryosphere and alpine research and creating new opportunities for collaboration across regions. Two new research projects supported through INTERACT Pilot Access Call . We are excited to announce that two projects have been awarded funding through the INTERACT Transnational Access (TA) pilot call, supporting early career researchers to carry out fieldwork in some of the world’s most rapidly changing regions. TISANA project Dr Alicia V. Perera-Castro and Dr Miquel Nadal will travel to Kilpisjärvi Biological Station, Finland in August 2026 to study how mosses survive extreme light, cold, and drying conditions. springTALES project Led by Dr Barbara Valle, this project will investigate biodiversity in glacier forelands - landscapes transformed by glacier retreat - to better understand ecosystem change in alpine environments. This field work is postponed to 2027. These projects highlight why access to research stations and international collaboration are essential for understanding how life responds to a changing climate. We are also preparing a workshop to design the IPY Arctic Access Programme, supporting future opportunities for researchers to access Arctic field sites. Our fundraising campaign is open for those who wish to support future access programmes and help enable more research in these critical environments. Our first article on Zackenberg, Greenland has been officially published! In it, we present findings on the dynamics of natural organic matter in relatively recently formed thermokarst lakes. Outstanding work by Diogo Folhas Ferreira, with valuable contributions from Beatriz Malcata Martins, Torben Røjle Christensen, and Raoul Couture.
