Closet Organizing…Peg Board Wall

A few weeks ago, I had mentioned I was cleaning and organizing the basement. One area was my father's old workbench that he doesn't use any more, because can't go up and down the stairs. Well, there were 2 sheets of pegboard that weren't being used, so I unscrewed them from the wall and brought them upstairs to my master bedroom closet!

One afternoon of a big mess, one hour of hell trying to find the studs in the wall, one wonderful husband who helped me with it all and we finally have this...

I hope some of the tips will be helpful for you too…

Tool Time Tuesday...Paper Punch Organizing

Hi everyone! Today's Tool Time is a re-purpose for a framed peg board that I had. Previously, I used the pegboard frame for all my quilt rulers, but I changed them to a different hanging system...click HERE for that post if you missed it.

The new pegboard is for my paper punches...

See how easy it is to make one for yourself.

Fabric Hoops Wall Decor...

Hi everyone! Today, I want to share a project with you that I saw on Pinterest. It was from the site Purl Bee. It uses wooden embroidery hoops for wall decor. When I first saw the idea, I already had some older hoops that I had been collecting and some from my mom, but the hunt was on. Every time I saw hoops in yard sales, thrift store or consignment shops I bought them!! They were inexpensive too...50 cents to $3.00 and some were $5.00 for a bag of them.

Here's the wall in my sewing room with all the hoops made with fabric I already had!!

You can make these too. They are very easy and fast to make up. Let me show you the quick steps...

Just a quick one about peg board stuff...

Karen, from "Journey of a Quilter", and I were talking about accessories for our peg boards. I promised I would show her one that I use for all my sewing machine feet.

This first picture is of the screwdriver holder...and no, I didn't steal it from hubby. He has one too!!!

This is what it's intended for:

This is what I use it for: all the different feet for my machine:

Cute, isn't it. Never thought something from Home Depot would be cute!

Karen, you know that circle one that you never use, maybe you could put your scissors in there like this. Maybe?? Not sure of the size of yours.

Well, ladies that's my tool time for today. Remember, always think outside the box when walking through the hardware store...there are so many goodies in there. Hey, maybe I should do a weekly post on hardware store stuff for the quilter.

Be back later today with some quilt top pictures!

Peg Board, Curtain Rings and Clothes Pins...

I know those three things are an odd combo, but they work well in my sewing room. For my birthday last month, my in-laws asked what I wanted. What does every woman want...jewelry, clothing, flowers. Nope, not me! I wanted a Home Depot gift card. I bought this beautiful (to me it's beautiful, lol) white peg board, more hooks and a bunch of accessories. Crazy I know, but when I moved my sewing room to the basement for more space, I left my old peg board up stairs in my old sewing room. Can't live without it. If you don't like the white or the brown peg boards that they sell, you can always paint it the same as your wall color in your sewing room. Then you could frame it out with trim molding and it would look great!
Peg Board
It's so easy to find things when they are hanging up.

These are my rolls of freezer paper and heat & bond.
I also hang zip lock baggies of everything.

These are jars that just unscrew, but the caps are mounted to the peg board.
Great for little things: safety pins, needles, thimbles, beads etc.

Curtain Rings

Not just for curtains anymore!

I store everything in zip lock bags: little templates,
hexagon bags for on the go, squares for future projects etc.
I clip a curtain ring on the top of the bag and hang
it in clear view so I know where it is.

I use a curtain ring to clip an acrylic ruler that
doesn't already have a hole in it to hang up.

I also use them to display quilts.
Easy to change out new quilts
and you don't have to sew the
pocket for the rod on the back!

Clothes Pins

I buy the extra large clothes pins at Walmart (where else!)
You can print the row number with a label maker
or you could just use a permanent marker.
I use these to clip together the blocks or squares
that are waiting to be sewn into rows.

Just a few crazy things in my sewing room...
Hope you can use a few yourself!!

Until next time...
~Karen~
