In this episode of the SGH Hospital of the Future podcast, Associate Professor Hairil Rizal Abdullah reflects on what truly defines a great clinician. Is it technical skill and speed, or the outcomes their patients achieve? Drawing from SGH’s experience in total knee replacement care, he shares how advances in anaesthesia and coordinated care pathways are helping patients recover faster and return home within 24 hours with less pain and preserved mobility. Together with Professor Paul Bastiaan van der Nat, Chief Value Officer at St. Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein, The Netherlands, and host Associate Professor Su-Yen Goh, the conversation explores why healthcare professionals should look beyond performing procedures well, and focus instead on how every skill contributes to better recovery and better patient outcomes. Explore the conversation shaping the future of healthcare. 🎧Listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gX8KrAPb 📺Watch on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gq4g68-i 🎧Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gN4PrhUP #SGHHospitalOfTheFuture #Innovation

Patients and safe care are our priority. At SGH, we believe that listening to feedback and understanding patient needs are essential to delivering quality care today — and improving care for tomorrow. This means learning continuously and being open to constructive conversations. At the same time, a safe and respectful environment is fundamental for the healthcare professionals who care for patients every day. When our people feel supported, trust grows and care becomes safer and more sustainable. By putting people first and fostering mutual respect, we strengthen conversations, relationships and the care we provide — now and in the long run. #SGHTakesAStand

200 years of stories, all within the walls of SGH. Last weekend, our SGH Docents marked their pilot public tour at the SGH Museum, guiding participants through the people, moments and milestones that shaped Singapore General Hospital over the last two centuries. Although the tour was just an hour long, many participants stayed on to explore more. From wartime resilience to the evolution of healthcare in Singapore, the SGH Museum offers a glimpse into how care has changed over generations, while remaining grounded in the same purpose: caring for people. Thank you to our docents and volunteers for bringing these stories to life. Learn more about the SGH Museum: https://lnkd.in/gvYActau

Yesterday, SGH came together for Patient Experience Day 2026, as colleagues paused to reflect on what truly defines care. Beyond the systems we build, it is how we show up for our patients and for one another each day that shapes their experience. Through shared reflections and meaningful engagement across teams, the day reinforced our collective commitment to providing compassionate, respectful and patient-centred care. The occasion was especially significant as it also marked the launch of our ONE Culture, our shared behavioural framework that strengthens how we care, communicate and collaborate as one team. Anchored in ONE Kindness, ONE Empowerment, ONE Voice and ONE Journey, it reflects our belief that every action, no matter how small, contributes to the experiences of those we serve and the culture we build together. Together, these moments represent an important step forward in creating a more compassionate, connected and consistent experience for our patients, caregivers and community. Our sincere appreciation to all participants and collaborators whose dedication and contributions made this day possible! #SGH #ONECulture #PatientExperience #HealthcareCulture #TeamSGH

A proud milestone for SGH’s orthopaedic team 👏 7 robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries completed in a single operating room in one day — made possible through precision surgery, enhanced recovery pathways, and seamless teamwork across multidisciplinary teams. Most importantly, patients were able to mobilise early and head home the next day. Congratulations to everyone involved in continuing to push boundaries in patient care and orthopaedic innovation. 💪 #Orthopaedics #RoboticSurgery #JointReplacement #DefiningTomorrowsMedicine #DareToInnovate
Last week… A record-setting day at Singapore General Hospital — 7 joint replacements in 7 patients completed in a single room from 8:30am to 4:30pm. ✅ 1 Direct Anterior Approach Total Hip Replacement ✅ 1 Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty ✅ 5 Total Knee Arthroplasties ✅ All performed robotically This was more than just a numbers milestone. It was a demonstration of what is possible when precision surgery, ERAS pathways, and an exceptional multidisciplinary team come together seamlessly. The Singapore General Hospital operating team “Pit-Crew” From surgical planning and robotic execution, to anesthesia optimization, nursing coordination, OT attendants, sterile services, porters, physiotherapy and postoperative recovery — every part of the system moved with purpose, precision, and trust. Most importantly, patients were mobilising early and heading home the very next day. High-volume surgery should never mean compromised care. With modern robotics, streamlined workflows, enhanced recovery protocols, and experienced teams, efficiency and precision can coexist at the highest level. Proud of the entire SGH team for continuing to push boundaries in arthroplasty surgery and redefining what next-generation joint replacement care can look like. #RoboticSurgery #JointReplacement #TotalKneeReplacement #TotalHipReplacement #ERAS #EnhancedRecovery #PrecisionSurgery #Orthopaedics #Arthroplasty #SGH #Teamwork #HealthcareInnovation #MAKORobotics #KneeReplacement #HipReplacement
