Bad Bunny! BAD BUNNY!

No, not THAT Bad Bunny!

THIS Bad Bunny!

I don't give a shit about American football,
but you can bet I'll be watching
the Super Bowl Halftime Show tomorrow!

I hope Bad Bunny DOES wear a
Liam Conejo Ramos' bunny hat
during the show!

What an even more powerful
statement that would make!

All the haters in MAGA
will be streaming their own
sorry excuse for a halftime show
somewhere on the internet --

Go, Bad Bunny, Go!
You are the best of America!

Silly Serious Music (Updated!)

If famous composers were cats --

Unbeknownst to me, it turns out that this is an actual piano score! It is called Toc-cat-a in B for Pawiano and was written by Noam Oxman in honour of a cat named Latte! Here is a recording of it --

Thanks to intrepid blogging buddy Jim of Road to Parnassus for researching that meme and letting us know the results! More whimsical animal compositions by Noam Osman are found here.

Cute Aggression

Okay, ordinarily I'm not much of a metal devotee BUT there is one headbanging song I adore -- Cute Aggression by Anthony Vincent. How can you not appreciate this love song from a man to his cat?

He has recorded various versions of this viral hit. His latest 2025 update -- "cuter, heavier, and more aggressive" -- is on YouTube here, if you want to check it out as well. The visuals in this one are all him and Pyretta. And thank gawd he ditched that stupid cape!

Do I really need to say that I bought the latest t-shirt?

An Important Month, At Least To Some Of Us

I'm not one of those people who hate recorders.

I LOVE THEM!

It's the only musical instrument I know how to play.

And yes, I learned it in school --
in Grade 7 when I was twelve years old.

We received weekly instruction for three months
from a young teacher who just happened
to know how to teach recorder.

She was stunned to learn that I didn't already know
how to read music, naively assuming that all kids
came from homes wealthy enough to afford
private music lessons. I did not.

Learning basic musical notation
and the recorder scale opened
a whole new world to me.

I've parlayed that short period of formal instruction
into a lifetime of playing recorders
for my own enjoyment,
not only the basic soprano recorder
by also alto, tenor and bass recorders,
which I learned how to play on my own.

I never had the opportunity to play in an ensemble
until I was middle aged. Unfortunately, it revealed the limits of
my musical education and proficiency, so I went back
to just playing for my own enjoyment.

That has always been enough for me.

These days, I can no longer play the recorder
due to my poor eyesight which prevents me
from being able to see the sheet music.

But who knows, perhaps once my cataracts are removed,
I will be able to play again. I hope so!

Recorders deserve more respect than they get.
Before the invention of the metal transverse flute,
recorders were a serious instrument in baroque and
other early music central to the European tradition.

Today, however, they are regarded as being only
a kid's plastic toy to torment everyone around them.

But hey, I still enjoy a good recorder meme
like anyone else! So here's a few to end on.

My Queen! My Amazon Queen!

I'm a fan of Jully Black, "Canada's Queen of R&B." A few months ago, I featured her on my other blog, Beautiful Woman of the Day, using the above fab photo. And last night, I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing her LIVE in a super high-energy concert! Friends had an extra ticket and generously invited me along (and also let me use the following photos for this post, thanks!)

My goddess worship needs have now been completely met for the foreseeable future, LOL!

Saturday Night Dance Party Tribute

Today, various bloggers are creating a "Saturday Night Dance Party" post in memory of our blogging buddy Anne Marie in Philly (From My Brain To My Mouth) who passed away unexpectedly around this date three years ago.

The Warrior Queen lived up to her name in every way. She was a passionate supporter of human rights and civil rights for all, a fierce feminist, an outspoken advocate of BLM and a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community. She had no use whatsoever for Trump, the GOP, Q-Anon, anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, or any other right-wing anti-social nonsense. All this was clear in her blog, as well as her love of cats, her artistry with knitting needles, and her enjoyment of a good gin cock-a-tail. Anne Marie was the soul of kindness to her blogging buddies, always remembering and noting in her blog birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions and passings.

Anne Marie was passionate about music and especially liked to "kick it old school," as she put it. Her blog was filled with videos of the best dance music from every decade since the 1940s onwards. So in her honour, I am posting three of my most favourite recent danceable hit songs -- enjoy!

Dua Lipa: Dance The Night (2024, from the Barbie movie)

Adam Lambert: Holding Out For A Hero (2023)

Beyoncé: Texas Hold 'Em (2023)

And I'll conclude with one of Anne Marie's favourite quotations of hope and inspiration --

"Keep believing. Keep marching. Keep building. Keep raising your voice. Every generation has the opportunity to remake the world.” - Barack Obama, July 2018

We miss you, Warrior Queen!
