Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Just a few pictures from our amazing vacation.
Thanks Ma and Pops!

For those of you who know us, we love taking pictures,
so it goes without saying there will be more to come!!

This was Madison's first time to the beach,
(other than the trip to the lighthouse).
She LOVED it! She loved riding the waves on the ocean
(not so much the taste),
she loved eating sand
(again, not so much the taste),
she loved splashing in the pool,
and floating down the lazy river,
and most of all she loved hanging out with her cousins!

I think Madison looks very sophisticated
biting the end of her glasses like that:)

This is Cameron (aka little boddy).
Both Cameron and Maddie were not in attendance 0n
last years vacation to the beach.
Well, Madison was there, we just couldn't see her.

This is Travie rolling around in the sand.
Maddie liked to pull on Travie's hair and
she taught him how to suck his thumb :)

I think these three are going to be best buddies!!
Travis is 14 months old, Madison is 10 months old,
and Cameron is 3 months old.

Lighthouse Point Park

These are pictures of the Lighthouse Point Park lighthouse or Five Mile Point Lighthouse in New Haven, Connecticut. We took them a couple of weeks ago, but our internet hasn't been working so we couldn't post them until now.

I (Jessica) was soooo excited about seeing a lighthouse.
I loved them when I was on my mission in Maine
and am looking forward to convincing Clay
we need to go to many more.

Luckily there are a few in these parts!

These are pictures of Madison's first time on the beach.
We are pretty sure she liked it! :)

Playing drums on daddy's head.

Maddie lasted several minutes before she put
a handful of sand in her mouth.
She didn't like the taste, yet kept doing it?

We made it!

We are finally here in Connecticut.
We arrived on Friday, August 3rd.
We have been working hard to unpack and organize everything.
The drive wasn't too bad. We drove 3 hours to Clay's sister's house in northern Virginia and spent the night, then we traveled the remaining 7 hours the next day.
Madison did really well on the drive. She slept most of the time.

Clay has been in the following states in a little over a month:
Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky,
West Virginia,Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
New York, Connecticut and
next week we will add North and South Carolina

So far we have enjoyed our time here. The ward members have been amazing.
Our apartment is bigger than we thought. There are a lot of beautiful, old houses around here. We found a Red Box not too far away. There are a lot of parks we can go to and a lot of families in our building that have children for Madison to play with.
On the down side,
after only 2 days here, we got our bike stolen :(
But besides that we think we will like it a lot here.

Connecticut

Name for Residents - Connecticuters (not Connecticut-ups like Dad thought)
Inventions- Connecticut is home to the Polaroid camera, helicopter, color television, and hamburger.
The first hamburgers in U.S. history were served in New Haven, Connecticut, at Louis' Lunch sandwich shop in 1895. Louis Lassen, founder of Louis' Lunch, ran a small lunch wagon selling steak sandwiches to local factory workers. Because he didn't like to waste the excess beef from his daily lunch rush, he ground it up, grilled it, and served it between two slices of bread -- and America's first hamburger was created.PEZ® Candy is made in the city of Orange.
The first automobile law was passed by the state of CT in 1901. The speed limit was set at 12 miles per hour.
The World Wrestling Federation or the WWF is headquartered in Stamford.

Presidential Birthplace - George Walker Bush was born in New Haven on July 6, 1946 (he is the 43rd US President, serving from 2001 to the present).

Origin of the Name Connecticut - The name Connecticut is from a Mohican/Algonquin Indian word "quonehtacut", which means "long tidal river."
State Nickname - Constitution State
State Song - Yankee Doodle
Silly laws in Connecticut-

  • You can be stopped by the police for biking over 65 miles per hour.
  • It is unlawful to walk backwards after sunset.
  • You aren't allowed to cross a street while walking on your hands.
  • It is illegal for any beautician to hum, whistle, or sing while working on a customer.
