4 Day Break

I’m going to step away from blogging for a short four-day breather. This lingering sinus infection and cold are still hanging on, and my body is kindly (and firmly) asking for a little rest. I’ll be using these days to slow down, heal up, and get back to feeling like myself again. Thank you for understanding—and for all the sweet check-ins. I’ll see y’all back here on Monday. 💛

A Hodgepodge of Tidbits

Whether it's the Olympics or football's cheering breeze,

Romance in small moments or hearts that softly squeeze,

A platter full of cheeses, laughter in between,

This Wednesday's hodgepodge of tidbits warms the scene!

Joyce asks the Questions
We answer the Questions

1. The Winter Olympics kick off on Friday, February 6th...on a scale of 1-10 how excited are you? (1= eh and 10=watching every event all day every day). What's your favorite Winter Olympic sporting event?

I do enjoy watching the Winter Olympics as the athletes challenge themselves against the cold, the snow, and other elements that winter delivers. My absolute favorite is the snow skiing.  It blends strength, balance and courage in a way that is so mesmerizing to watch.    One wrong move and suddenly everything these athletes have worked for can leave them feeling defeated.  Yet, completing the challenges that they have worked so hard for is so rewarding.

2. In other sporting news, the Super Bowl (American football's championship game) will be played on Sunday, February 8th. So tell us...what's your superpower?

I do love watching the Super 🏈 bowl, but mainly when my team...The Kansas City Chiefs are playing. Hmmm.  I think my Super power is that I like to make our home a place of love and I love decorating.  This was not my first answer, but I'm back correcting what I mis-read.  You ever do that?  Anyways, My super power is being a wife, a mom, grandmother, great grandmother and so on...   I'm here to help make life good for my family.  I'm not sure I do enough to call it super power, but I would at least give myself an A.

3. Are you a romantic?

I like to think so!!  I love holding hands with my sweetie and I love stealing a kiss from him in mid sentence.  Saying I love you MORE....saying "remember when and smiling"....  So much I could say here!!!

4. Blue cheese-yay or nay? How about feta? If you said yes to one or both, what's a dish you like that calls for one of these?

No Blue cheese for me!  Just can't do it!!

I do like Feta cheese and I enjoy eating it on a good salad with strawberries, cranberries and pecans.

5. What's more important-doing what you love or loving what you do?

This is one of those questions that sounds simple but....it could be a little tricky.

Doing what you love is beautiful when you are able to chase a passion that makes you feel excited.  But, loving what you do is often where PEACE lives.  Loving what you do means choosing
gratitude and purpose.  When you learn to love what you do, you find joy in your work and in people.  Funny thing...  Sometimes, loving what you do is what eventually leads you right back to doing what you love.     Does all this make sense?

6. Insert your own random thought here.

"Wouldn't it be lovely if the most beautiful thing about each of us was our heart?"

I saw this little quote and I thought how sweet this would be.   Not an outfit, not the face, not the hair....but to be beautiful because your heart is beautiful would be the the biggest asset a person can have.  To be seen as beautiful because of the way you deal with small things or the way kindness seems to follow you.  Having a heart that people remember long after a moment passes.....after the laughter fades and the room empties....this is the gentle echo that says something good was here....someone BEAUTIFUL.

PS...I had to go back and correct my first answer to #2...I mis-read that question.  So, if you don't understand some of the comments, it's because I changed my answer.  lol.

GHD and tidbits

Ahh...Groundhog Day..

The one magical morning each February when all of America agrees to trust a groggy, fur covered rodent, who enjoys giving us 6 more weeks of Winter.  I'm thinking that this was just an ordinary early morning in 1887, when the Punxsutawney Club met to discuss the day..... Perhaps they were very cold and they may have been sipping on too much Rye/Bourbon early that morning.
Maybe the club members just needed to declare February 2nd as an important day, and suddenly a groundhog appeared.  IDK!
They then declared it Groundhog day!

Anyways....Happy Groundhog Day to each of you!!

Meanwhile, around here, our Heating Unit decided to stop working last Friday afternoon.  Sam called the company that installed our unit (only 4 years ago) to come check it.
Sure enough....a certain part had to be ordered.  Isn't this the way it always goes?
BUT....suddenly, Friday night the heat came back on!!  Thank goodness, we DID have heat all weekend.
The service guy will still come this morning to check things out.

I'm still battling a cold.  I actually think it's now a sinus infection. You know...the headache kind with yucky green mucous and streaks of blood.   I just spoke with my doctor's office and they are sending me out some meds.

****

It seemed to be a short weekend around here.  We did go out Saturday morning with the family to enjoy a 10:00 brunch....still celebrating Mylee.

We were home the rest of the weekend.....Sam slept a lot (his treatments make him very tired) and I just hung out in my comfy chair, with my computer and a box of Kleenex, working on taxes...  LOL.
It was a good cozy weekend right here at home!

For dinner this evening...
Salmon and roasted veggies.
Sweet Iced tea

This is it for this (still cold) Monday morning....

It's Feb and Sat. work

 First of All......Happy February 💗

February is the RED month... also known as the month of love.

And now................

Well dear friends...Tax season is officially peeking around the corner....it's like that one bill you were hoping would forget your address.  (laughing) and laughing some more.

I spent most of Saturday afternoon deep in tax land and I actually think I worked overtime.  Extra pay?  Not a dime!!

I love how when it comes tax time, every receipt suddenly becomes super important.  Not sure about you all, but yes, I'm the one who saves every receipt.....

I looked everywhere for my ice cream receipts....then I remembered I don't eat ice cream.  And now I feel like I missed a deduction for the year.

For me, tax season is one part math, one part mystery and 2 parts emotional exercise.
Working on taxes is very humbling for me.  One minute I feel responsible and grown, the next I'm squinting at my calculator wondering why my eyes are all glazed over, wondering why I grew up in the first place!!!!!  Many may agree with me on this....I am convinced that the best cardio exercise is when I am deep into figures. This definitely gets my heart rate up.

Woo hoo .....  I'm done, I'm finished, and now it is up to our accountant to double check me.
Now, on this Sunday morning, I can breath better, I can now totally move my focus to my 2026 receipts, and I can officially leave 2025 behind me.

I survived Saturday and all the numbers that were being thrown at me.....and now today (Sunday) is my recovery day!!  lol.

BTW....we still have ice on the ground in some areas.  It was bitterly cold yesterday with the wind blowing, so what better thing to do than to work on taxes!!  😀😅

*************

Thank you January for teaching me to be still.  To slow down enough to see what I usually rush past.
To listen instead of filling every quiet space.
To breath deeply and to rest.

You reminded me that not every season is meant for doing! Some seasons are meant for becoming.
For noticing the small blessings, and trusting in the pauses of the day.

I am now stepping in the next month softer, and more aware while still carrying the stillness with me.

Shug...💙
