South African Tourism Dialogue With Tourism Minister & Tourism Destination Workshop in Malaysia

Yeah‼️SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻🎒🛫🌎🗺️ as a travel cum tourism enthusiast has personally met The Minister of Tourism of South Africa, Ms Patricia de Lille 👩🏻‍💼🇿🇦 during a Tourism Dialogue & Destination Workshop recently to learn more about what South Africa 🇿🇦 can offer to the Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👫👭🏻👬, receive updates on South Africa’s tourism promotion, offerings & priorities for the Asian market, market access & flight ✈️ connectivity. A special thank you 🙏🏻💖 to Mr Uzaidi Udanis 👨🏽‍💼from Your Inbound Matters who shared this opportunity with her 👩🏻✅

This minister visit is part of a Southeast Asian outreach program that also includes Singapore 🇸🇬 & Indonesia 🇮🇩 with aims to boost tourism cooperation ahead of Malaysia’s 🇲🇾 Visit Malaysia Year 2026 & a 2025 commitment to strengthen the tourism ties 🪢In fact, this engagement builds on the Oct 2025 visit by South African President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa 👨🏿‍💼to Malaysia, where both countries agreed to enhance cooperation 🇿🇦🤝🇲🇾 in tourism, culture & connectivity. Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼told during the tourism dialogue session that she was in Singapore 🇸🇬 on 3 Feb, in Malaysia 🇲🇾 on 4 Feb & then next in Indonesia 🇮🇩 on 5 Feb 2026 as part of a broader Southeast Asia 🌏 tour this time

Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼has shared insights that Malaysia 🇲🇾 continues to strengthen its position as a leading source market for South Africa 🇿🇦in Southeast Asia 🌏, driven by resilient travel demand, rising arrivals & a return to record visitor spend. Forward projections highlight Malaysia’s 🇲🇾📈 growing contribution to South Africa’s 🇿🇦 tourism economy & its importance as a long-haul source market within the region

Yes ✅, Malaysia 🇲🇾 Drives Southeast Asia Tourism Growth 🌎📈 for South Africa 🇿🇦 with Rising Arrivals & Spend 👏🏻🙌🏻💯👍🏻

Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼 also has highlighted the significance of Malaysia 🇲🇾 as a source market & the value of these interactions

“Southeast Asia 🌏 is an important source market for South Africa 🇿🇦, with Malaysia being a key contributor. Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👫👭🏻👬 are showing an encouraging appetite for leisure, wildlife, cultural & business experiences, returning to pre-pandemic levels & reflecting a strong recovery. This demand provides opportunities to diversify our tourism offerings while strengthening cooperation through joint tourism promotion, knowledge-sharing & strategic initiatives.”

Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼 added, “This visit provides a key platform for bilateral engagement, allowing us to gain insights into traveller preferences & market trends that guide our tourism strategy. By showcasing offerings that resonate with Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👫🏻👬🏻👭🏻🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻, whether MICE for corporates, Halal offerings, wildlife or cultural tourism for leisure travel & working closely with tour operators & airlines, we are well positioned to serve this market while building partnerships 🤝🏻 that support sustainable growth 📈 for both countries.”

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt that to travel to South Africa 🇿🇦 is now easier for Malaysians 🇲🇾👫🏻👬🏻👭🏻🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻 because of its 🆕electronic visa system 🛂(The Home Affairs department officer has explained about this system with visa issuance turnaround time within 24 hrs), more flight ✈️options & a wide range of tourism experiences 😃😁

Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👫👭🏻👬visit South Africa 🇿🇦 primarily for leisure & social purposes, with holidays & visiting friends & family as the main drivers. While the interest for Business & MICE (ie. Meetings, incentives, conferences & exhibitions) travel have also supported the market’s recovery, demonstrating South Africa’s 🇿🇦 position as a destination for professional engagements. This growth 📈 is further supported by rising numbers of 1️⃣st-time visitors, while returning repeat travellers, now back to pre-pandemic levels, highlight growing confidence & loyalty in South Africa as a long-haul destination

This year, South Africa 🇿🇦 further bolsters its Sport Tourism through the very 1️⃣st LIV Golf 🏌🏻‍♀️⛳ in Africa in March 2026 & the 2027 Cricket 🏏 World Cup. In addition, the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2027 has announced its Special Meeting which mirrors the WEF Davos, will also take place in South Africa 💯👍🏻 Various of travel packages are available ✅ to cater before/ after these events 😃😁

Actually since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 8 Nov 1993, Malaysia 🇲🇾 & the Republic of South Africa 🇿🇦 have enjoyed a strong & enduring partnership 🤝, underpinned by mutual respect, shared values & common aspirations 🤗

This recent tourism initiative aims to convert connectivity 🔄 & interest into longer stays, broader itineraries & meaningful travel experiences across South Africa 🇿🇦 There are investment opportunities especially with South African National Parks (SAN Parks) ~ Total 22 national parks

South African Tourism is the tourism marketing arm of the South African government to promote its country’s tourism destinations domestically & internationally, whether for leisure, business or events tourism. As a government body, it’s committed to meaningfully contributing to the South African government’s objectives of inclusive economic growth 📈, sustainable job creation (SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 was told during the destination workshop that South Africa 🇿🇦 is with 39% of unemployment rate currently), redistribution & transformation of tourism industry

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 got to know from this tourism dialogue that the overall outbound travel from Malaysia 🇲🇾 is projected to grow ⬆️ at a compound annual growth 📈 rate of 8.1% between 2024 & 2030, supported 💯🙌🏻 by sustained demand across both business & leisure segments. Arrivals from Malaysia 🇲🇾 in 2025 is 7,773 visitors which is a 17.3% increase ⬆️ since 2024

Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼 is optimistic 👩🏻‍💼😁 that these Malaysian 🇲🇾👭🏻👬👫 arrivals will continue to increase ⬆️ double into 2026 since Malaysia 🇲🇾 & South Africa 🇿🇦 shared the century’s history together. South Africa 🇿🇦 with a Muslims community of 150 years old, availability of halal tourism, prayer facilities & halal food including restaurants, bakery, fine dine etc. as elaborated during the dialogue session. There are 150 mosques 🕌 in Cape Town, particularly Auwal Mosque 🕌 which located in the Bo-Kaap neighborhood of Cape Town. It’s recognized as the 1️⃣st mosque in South Africa with its construction completed in 1794, wow 😲

In 2024, Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻👭🏻👬🏻👫🏻 spend recovered to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 🇿🇦💰 ZAR125.9 million (MYR30.7 million), slightly higher than ZAR125.6 million (MYR30.6 million) in 2019 & is projected to grow further ⬆️ in 2026

Though currently Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👫🏻👬🏻👭🏻🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻 take long haul flight ✈️ to South Africa 🇿🇦 from Singapore 🇸🇬, the main hub in Asia 🌏 At least 13 hours direct flight from Singapore to Cape town ~ 12 flights daily, always fully booked & high price. Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼 shared that there are efforts trying to accommodate more affordable & frequency flights 🛬🛫🇲🇾🇿🇦 in the near future. Also to explore on charter flights ✈️ opportunities with B2B events

Ms Patricia 👩🏻‍💼 also elaborated about the safety & security efforts of now having a secure digital app 📲🤳🏻✅ to mitigate the risks concerns of all South Africa 🇿🇦 visitors. Just need to inform no. of days in South Africa 🇿🇦, got access to immediate police 👮🏻‍♀️🚨🚓 contact, operational staff assigned in 365 days 24/7 hours to respond any emergency calls & locate you immediately

Top 🔝 activities & destinations for Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾👭🏻👬👫 in South Africa 🇿🇦

During this recent tourism destination workshop well explained by Ms Neliswa Nkani 👩🏽‍💼, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt the various of exciting attractions & experiences at South Africa 🇿🇦

Dining 🍽️, shopping 🛒🛍️& socialising are the top activities for Malaysian travellers, followed by visits to natural attractions, wildlife encounters & beach 🏖️🏝️destinations. These trends point to a return to immersive, experience-based travel, particularly among younger & mid-age travellers seeking authentic experiences

Half marathon 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️ in national parks, hiking 🥾 trails with qualified nature guide , paragliding 🪂 , fishing 🎣

Garden Root well known as family friendly destination 💯👍🏻

✨ Clifton beach ⛱️ 🏖️ with a set of 4️⃣ beaches & rated as 1️⃣ of the Top 🔟 beaches by Discovery Trace Channel . Known for its watersports & sunbathing. Guess what ❓⁉️ It’s the most expensive real estate in South Africa 🇿🇦

Oribi to enjoy the adventurous bugee jumping off cliffs at amazing high waterfalls 🏞️

Eastern Cape to explore for rural tourism

The most visited provinces among Malaysian travellers 🇲🇾🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻👭🏻👬🏻👫🏻 are Gauteng, the Western Cape & Limpopo. Gauteng attracts travellers with its urban experiences, shopping 🛒🛍️& business hubs, the Western Cape for its landscapes & culinary offerings, while Limpopo is known for its cultural heritage & wildlife experiences

✨ To spot the Big 5️⃣ ~ lion 🦁, leopard 🐆, rhinoceros 🦏, elephant 🐘 & Cape buffalo 🐃 ie. The most iconic, dangerous & sought-after animals to view on safari, yes ✅, to target  🎯 💯🤩 at Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga & Gauteng 🤩😍

✨ Cape Town with the largest Malay community, also other communities including Chinese shared similar history ~ Cape Malay Quarters in Western Cape ~ To experience home cooking with local Cape’s Malay cuisines, “berbuka” heritage etc.

✨ Table Mountain National Park with 1085m above sea level ~ Ghost frog 🐸, a rare species only found here. With 3K secies of flora & fauna. A hiking 🥾 point

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 also told that special tourism efforts towards the musical festivals, cultural events with local community, adventure tourism (3K++ activities available) , medical tourism etc. Not forgetting to expand South Africa tourism’s 🇿🇦 social media penetration through TikTok & XHS red book

Looking ahead, many opportunities exist to expand independent travellers marketing, build on current available packaged tour momentum through curated hybrid leisure-business offerings & diversify provincial destinations. Also the continued focus on MICE positioning, digital engagement & strengthened OTA partnerships 🤝🏻 will be key to capturing both short-lead & forward bookings

Hmm…After her media attendance, SiennyLovesDrawing just can’t wait & truly looking forward to her trip to explore South Africa 👩🏻✅🇿🇦 especially spot the Big 5️⃣ Safari experience 🤩🦁🐆🦏🐘🐃, visit to Mapungubwe National Park 🌳🌳 & World Heritage Site, learning local culture, tasting local cuisine etc. Hopefully soon she will arrive, explore & share her travel experiences & tips with all of you ya🤞🏻🍀😁

Especially she 👩🏻 would like to visit The Kgodumodumo Dinosaur 🦖 🦕 Interpretation Centre ~ A world-class, R120-million facility opened in June 2025 within South Africa’s 🇿🇦 Golden Gate Highlands National Park in the Free State. It showcases paleontological, archaeological & geological history, special features fossils of the 14m long Ledumahadi mafube & ancient dinosaur embryos 🥚🤩

Ban Tak บ้านตาก is the old location of Mueang Tak. It was an ancient frontier city, on the west bank of the Ping River as an important gateway to the west of the Kingdom of Sukhothai & also to exploring the natural beauty & cultural richness of Tak Province, Thailand 🇹🇭  Do read more about things to do @ Sukhothai from SiennyLovesDrawing via 👩🏻👩🏻‍💻✍🏻🌐 https://siennylovesdrawing.wordpress.com/2025/11/11/things-to-do-sukhothai-northern-thailand/

It’s known for its scenic landscapes 😍🤩🌄 & proximity to natural attractions especially the Bhumibol Dam, 1️⃣ of the largest dams in Thailand 🇹🇭

It’s primarily a rural district with agriculture as its significant part of its local economy. Do stay tuned for her next blog story about her travel to explore Tak province for your itinerary planning 🤗💯

It also offers a glimpse into the traditional Thai way of life, with local markets & cultural sites that reflect the heritage of the region

Things To Do / Places To Visit

Wat Phra Borommathat วัดพระบรมธาตุตาก 🇲🇲💛🛕

This ancient temple 🛕traces its roots back to the 18th Buddhist century, making it a timeless treasure of Buddhist heritage. It’s a cherished & historically significant temple 🛕built in 11th century that holds deep cultural & spiritual value. Its most prominent feature is the majestic Phra Boromma Chedi. Inspired by the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar 🇲🇲, this splendid chedi gracefully envelops the old pagoda & is adorned with brass plates, adding to its grandeur

Local Thai people known it as the royal pagoda or Chedi Yutta Hatthi, this pagoda shares Myanmar’s 🇲🇲 famous Chawedagong’s features & houses holy Buddha relics

SiennyLovesDrawing personally got impressed 👩🏻😍🤩 with its wooden door🚪 panels & roof decorations that are magnificently crafted. Also the story of the Lord Buddha is depicted on the temples wooden window panels 🪟 which are covered in real gold 💛

The chedi is surrounded by 16 smaller pagodas, creating a harmonious & visually captivating sight 😍🤩 Within its arch, 16 revered Buddha images are enshrined, further elevating the temple’s spiritual significance

Beyond the Phra Boromma Chedi, it’s also home to Phra Chao Tanjai, a revered Buddha image depicted in the meditation posture, which holds a special place in the hearts 💗of the people of Tak Province 🇹🇭

Inside the chapel, a wooden gable adorned with intricate stencils & a window 🪟 carved with exquisitely lacquered & gilded Buddha images narrates the inspiring history of Buddhism. Within the chapel, a stucco-lacquered & gilded Buddha image, symbolizing the subduing of Mara, is enshrined, exemplifying the temple’s remarkable Buddhist artistry ☸️🕉️

Every year, around the end of May/ June, this temple 🛕 hosts a revered ceremony to worship the Phra Borommathat Chedi, a tradition cherished by local Tak people for generations to enduring devotion here. It’s a spiritual sanctuary & a place of cultural preservation for the region’s heritage & traditions

Wat Phra Phutthabat Doi Lon วัดพระพุทธบาทดอยโล้น 🤍🛕

It’s a Buddhist forest monastery which emphasizes on the meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️ practices. This shady & peaceful monastery is tuck in the embrace of mountain ⛰️ ranges. Highlight that attracts local & foreign tourists is a notably majestic Mahasakya Muni Srisanphet aka Phra Maha Sakya Muni So Sanphet, a large white 🤍 sitting Buddha statue characterized by its stunning appearance

It’s a grand & exquisite Buddha image measuring 20m wide across the lap & 38m height. The Buddha image is enshrined on a hill, so it can be seen from afar. Moreover, up on a steep hill stands a mandapa that houses the footprint 👣 of Lord Buddha. The footprint👣 of the Buddha is located on the summit of a high mountain⛰️ & being protected by a beautifully constructed chedi🛕

In the same area, there is also a natural spring 🏞️ that locals believe to possess healing properties, referred to as a divine water source. The local villagers believe that if a woman 🙋🏻‍♀️ goes to fetch water in this well, the water will dry up. But no matter how much a man 🙋🏻‍♂️scoops, the water will never run out. Therefore, when it comes to Apr month every year, particularly after Songkran 💦 Festival, the local villagers in the Thong Fah subdistrict & the local Thai people of Ban Tak District will join hands 🤝🏻 to carry on the tradition of ascending the mountain to pay homage & respect 🙏🏻🤲🏻 to the Buddha’s footprint 👣

Therefore, this monastery is suitable for tourists seeking for tranquility or nature 🌳🌳 enthusiasts. They are also welcome visitors to participate in the meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🏻 practices

Where To Eat

Rabiang Dao Homestay & Coffee Shop ร้านระเบียงดาว 🇹🇭⛰️☕

It’s a hidden local coffee shop in Ban Tak. Still remembered when SiennyLovesDrawing & travel mates 🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻👭🏻👬🏻👫🏻 arrived here during the recent raining morning 🌧️ ☔ 🌄, it’s covered with a thick white fog & mist 🌬️🌫️🤍

Guess what❓⁉️

During the chill relaxing 😌 time here, when the mist slowly disappeared , then the beautiful view overlooking the 3️⃣rd highest mountain ⛰️in Thailand ie. Doi Luong, Ching Dao from here 😍🤩

She enjoyed max her hot chocolate 👩🏻😋🍫 ☕, it’s very rich tasty to sip

Ohh ya…Must order & enjoy the appetizing young coconut salad 🥥🥗 served here, so delicious tasty 🤤😋 It’s similar to Som Tam ie. Thai papaya salad, however this dish with young coconut as its main ingredients, so crunchy refreshing to enjoy very bites 💯👍🏻 ~ She kept said “aroi mak mak” means so tasty good while enjoyed her bites 😆

In fact, this is actually a homestay with a coffee shop ya 😁 If next time SiennyLovesDrawing is here, she definitely wanna opt for a staycation here to enjoy beautiful star ✨🌌 at night & chill cooling ❄️🆒 weather up hill

Hidden gems ✨💫

So, before cafe 🍵☕ time at here, SiennyLovesDrawing & travel mates 🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻👭🏻👬🏻👫🏻 actually visited to a non fixed stall operated by a Hmong lady 🙋🏻‍♀️

They are originally from China 🇨🇳 & began migrating to Southeast Asia 🌏 in the early 1800s, eventually establishing communities in Thailand due to past conflicts & now live in mountain ⛰️ villages, primarily in mountainous provinces like Ban Tak, Chiang Mai & Mae Hong Son

There are Hmong green 💚 tribe (Based Ban Tak) & Hmong white 🤍 tribe (Based Chiang Mai) by differentiating with the back design of the clothing’s collar. Things To Do @ Tak, Northern Thailand

Hey 👋🏻 all, it’s the 1️⃣st time SiennyLovesDrawing travelled to this Tak province, Thailand 🇹🇭 Tak has Thailand’s largest dam & reservoir

Her travel mates & herself took a flight with AirAsia from KLIA2 to Bangkok city, then a smooth comfy van 🚐 ride of approximately 5 to 6 hours through the highway 🛣️ to reach Tak province. Hmm…It’s not a straight long hours ride, instead with stops in between for lunch 🍽️, toilet 🚽 break, 7-11 etc. She personally doesn’t really feel the long ride, moreover with very good 👍🏻 road 🛣️ condition, a plus point indeed 💯👍🏻

Alternatively, tourists can consider for a domestic flight ✈️ 🛫 journey of approximately 1.5 hours from Bangkok city to Sukhothai

Sela Eco Leaf Printing Workshop

SiennyLovesDrawing enjoyed an amazing hands-on experience of creating very own piece of natural cotton fabric art with leaves 👩🏻💖🌿🍃🍀⬜

Yes ✅, unique & only 1️⃣, truly ❌ NO 2️⃣ natural plant prints are created ever the same 💯% in the world 💖👍🏻🌍 Most importantly she created it by herself from this workshop

Highly recommended 👩🏻💯👍🏻 because it’s a very beginner-friendly & meditative relaxing creative activity, the best 👍🏻 is NO ❌ any prior experience required. Anyone at any age can enjoy this opportunity to slow down, breathe 🧘🏻‍♀️ in the scent of fresh leaves 🍃 & reconnect with nature 🌱🌿🌷🌹

King Taksin the Great Memorial Shrine ศาลสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช

It’s a place of reverence & national pride as it was the 1️⃣st shrine built in Thailand 🇹🇭 since 1971 that has a a life size statue of King Taksin 👑 in a most peaceful position on his throne

King Taksin 👑 was born in 1733, the only king of the Thonburi period,a great Thai king who liberated Thailand from the Burmese & unified it. Visited this shrine to pay homage & respects to an over life-size statue of King Taksin 👑 in a sitting position with a sword 🗡️across his lap

Originally, a shrine to King Taksin the Great was built at Wat Hoi Khoi Khao Kaeo, Mae Tho Subdistrict, Tak Province. Overtime, the shrine deteriorated & fell to disrepair, failing to honor the King. Mr. Chamrat Suebsir, the then-chief engineer of the Tak Highway Department (1947), initiated the fundraising 💰 drive for the shrine construction. He also proposed to the Fine Arts Department that the current statue be cast. However, before it was completed, Mr Chamrent Naisi was transferred to another province. Mr Chaliew Watcharaphuk took over, construction continued, completing the shrine & handing it over to the province in 1949

on 28 Dec 1950, commemorating the day King Taksin the Great ascended to the throne on 28 Dec 1767, to express his loyalty & reverence

Mr. Suwan Chinyot, the then governor of Tak Province, organized the 1️⃣st “Taksin Maharaja Anusorn” event for the Thai people’s continued independence. Every year on this day, the government & Tak residents hold a “Salim Klaeng” event, a tradition that continues till today.

In year 1971, a 🆕 shrine (ie. This current shrine) to house the royal monument was built & money 💰 was used to build the shrine of King Taksin the Great, from the construction of the royal replica & from donors totaling to THB275,955.34. This money was then used to establish a foundation named as “King Taksin the Great, Lak Song Province”

In 2005, then the King Taksin The Great Foundation in Tak Province collaborated Matichon Co, Ltd, renovated & restored this shrine

Suggest to pray at this shrine by purchasing some pray materials for the King Taksin ie. Flowers 💐, hat 🎩, shoes 👞, weapon 🗡️etc.

Tips 📌: A must to touch the King Taksin’s horse 👑🐴🐎& praying 🙏🏻for blessed & safe protection while travelling ~ 出入平安

Taksin Maharat National Park 🌳🌳🏞️อุทยานแห่งชาติตากสินมหาราช

It’s a national park & FKA Ton Krabak Yai National Park, named for the park’s a 700-year-old krabak tree named Ton Krabak Yai aka Anisoptera costata 🌳 measuring height of 50m in height & 16.1m in circumference. Also part of this park’s lower-elevation dipterocarp forest. This tree is believed to be the largest in Thailand 🇹🇭, wow 😯🤩 It’s a dipterocarp of the Anisoptera Costata species & now endangered due to illegal logging 🪓🪵 It’s located approximately 2.5km from the national park office

It’s believed that the Burmese King Alaungpaya 🇲🇲👑 used to march his army through this national park

It was designated as Thailand’s 38th national park 🇹🇭🏞️🌳🌳 on 23 Dec 1981. This government-managed conservation boasts 150sqm of land teeming with flora & fauna, also the jaw-dropping waterfalls & thriller caves within it

Due to raining 🌧️☔ the earlier day, for safety reason, our tour guide Ms Pinky 👩🏻‍🦱 not recommend all of us to hike 400m (About an hour steep hiking 🥾 journey to reach the big tree 🌳). Instead, SiennyLovesDrawing hugged the replica in the visitor center ☺️

Personally, she 👩🏻💖 loves the clean surrounding, comfy chilling weather, with lodges, camping 🏕️ sites with tents ⛺ available for rent to enjoy an overnight in this national park. Ohh ya…You will feel that you’re at foreign European countries, yet it’s actually in Tak province, Thailand 🇹🇭😍🤩🏞️

Other exciting sites within this park;

  • Saphan Hin สะพานหินธรรมชาติ ~ It’s a natural stone bridge 🌉 spanning 2️⃣ cliffs with a stream flowing beneath. The formation is with a height of 82ft & 98ft long. Nearby is the Tran Loard Krow Cave featuring stalactites & stalagmites. It follows the path of the stream so donning hiking wear that you can get wet with is spot on
  • Namtok Pang A Noi น้ำตกปางอ้าน้อย ~ This middle-sized waterfall flows all year round. With approximately 20m high & 2️⃣km away from Ton Krabak Yai to the east
  • Namtok Mae Ya Pa น้ำตกแม่ย่าป้า ~ This mid–sized waterfall originates from Lam Huai Mae Ya Pa in a dense forest. It flows in layers along the creek into Lam Huai Mae Tho
  • Namtok Sam Muen Thung น้ำตกสามหมื่นทุ่ง ~ This giant waterfall of 30m high originates from Lam Huai Sam Muen Luang & flows year round

There are plenty of lodges 🏡🏘️🏠, camp sites 🏕️ & even tents ⛺ are available ✅ for rent with a fee

Admission is required ✅🎟️ & it’s a must for visitors to hire a forest nature guide to enter it for a hike ✅🙋🏻‍♂️🥾🏞️🌳🌳💯👍🏻

All tourists must drop by the park office near the entrance to inform the park officials. Yes ✅, a simple protocol to promote everyone’s safety that enter to visit this national park. Suggest to hire a local tour guide who knows this park area in & out is wise 😁

Doi Muser Market (🆕) ตลาดดอยมูเซอ

It’s a local market situated on the Tak-Mae Sot Road 🛣️ , approximately 30 km from Tak province, at the top of a mountain ⛰️ in Thailand’s 🇹🇭 Mae Sot District. It’s in the responsibility of the Thai Development Center on the Highlands of Tak Province, Thailand 🇹🇭

This busy local market is a clean & well-organized roadside market with a vibrant local atmosphere

It’s known for its fresh fruits, vegetables & other local goods that are often run by the local Muser (or Meo) people. SiennyLovesDrawing was told that some of the fruits & vegetables are sourced from China 🇨🇳 since it’s so near to the border

While it’s a market for locals, definitely a popular & worthwhile stop by for tourists on this route as it offers a glimpse into local life

Tourists can observe the way of life of the Thai hill tribe ie. Muser tribes bring their products from the garden to sell here. It’s especially known for its high-quality fruits 🍅🍌, vegetables 🌽🍠& plants 🌿🌱, though can also find other goods like clothing 👕👗(Limited as observed) & local Thai snacks 😋

Guess what❓⁉️

The pricing is really reasonable as her travel mate, Ms Rose mentioned, the snow lotus fruit usually at price RM8 to RM12 per kg, however it’s only THB25 ie. Approximately RM6, yes ✅, almost 50% cheaper, wow 😲😁

A special thank you 🙏🏻💖 to all her travel mates 👫🏻👬🏻👭🏻🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻 & tour guide, Ms Pinky 👩🏻‍🦱 that she got to try for the 1️⃣st time some of the local specialities from this local market during van 🚐 journey to reach the next destination (Yes ✅, a happy potluck snacks party in the van, lol 😆 ) ie. Snow Lotus fruits (Very crunchy juicy like orange melon 🧡🍈), fried pork skins (Nice fragrance & crunchy crispy crackers), dried meat 🥓 with small little spices on it that make it so delicious 😋🤤 tasty to enjoy a piece after another etc.

Ohh ya…From SiennyLovesDrawing’s reading & research 👩🏻👩🏻‍💻📖 before the trip, she understands that within this market area is also the location 📍of the Hilltribe Museum 🏛️ which has gathered everyday items of the Muser tribe & hill tribes all from the past to the present. However, she didn’t visit it during her recent trip…Perhaps during her next trip to Tak then ☺️

Bhumibol Dam 💦

It’s the largest arch-shaped concrete dam in Thailand 🇹🇭 with area of 300 sqkm, 486m in length, rising 154m in height, the dam’s crest stretches 6m wide & 260m depth & with high water 💦 level to generate & supply electricity ⚡to the northeast, north west & north regions, wow 😲

It’s definitely a testament to Thailand’s 🇹🇭💚 commitment to sustainable development & environmental conservation

It boasts a maximum water capacity of 13,462 million cubic meters, making it a vital water resource for the region & contributing to Thailand’s 🇹🇭 development & well-being

1️⃣ of its primary functions is electricity generation, harnessing the force of the river to produce hydroelectric power. This capability significantly contributes to Thailand’s energy needs, powering industries & homes across the nation

The controlled release of water 💦 from the reservoir ensures a steady water supply for farmers in the region, hence enhancing agricultural productivity & food security. Furthermore, this dam acts as a shield during heavy rainfalls 🌧️☔, effectively managing flood relief by retaining excess water during the rainy season & releasing it strategically to mitigate downstream flooding

It also serves as a haven for freshwater fish 🐟 breeding, supporting the conservation & sustainable management of aquatic resources

At the same time, it offers breathtaking 😍🤩 views from its ridge, making it a popular viewpoint for tourists visiting Tak, Thailand 🇹🇭 Its panoramic vistas of the lush green forests 💚🌳🌳 & intricate mountains ⛰️ create a mesmerizing sight that leaves a lasting impression on visitors

There is a big Buddha to pray 🙏🏻 for safe protection that located at this dam by the local Thai people here. Also some small Buddhas at the hill wall towards the dam dock area 🚤⚓ too

SiennyLovesDrawing & travel mates enjoyed wooden boat 👭🏻👫🏻👫🏻👭🏻🚤 ride to tour around this dam that cost just THB70 per pax. Just that it’s slightly slippery to walk 🚶🏻‍♀️& cross a mini wooden walkway to board into the wooden boat 😁 Ohh ya…Must remember to wear the safety jacket 🦺 during the boat ride ya

Guess what❓⁉️

This wooden boat owner 🙋🏻‍♂️🚤 actually was proud of himself as he used to ride the Thai king 👑 to tour this dam in the past, wow 😲

Malaysian Heritage: Telepuk Textile Art

During a recent visit to Karnival Komuniti Kraf 2025, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt about Telepuk textile art in Selangor for the 1️⃣st time

Telepuk is the most glorious Malay textile & is associated with royalty & the nobility. It was especially prominent in states like Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak & Johor. Its historical significance is captured in Malay manuscripts such as Syair Siti Zubaidah Perang Chik, where it’s referred to as “perada”

In the state of Selangor, Telepuk textile is a rich fabric usually worn by the royalty & nobility members since 300 years ago. It’s widely used during the reign of the High Royal Highness Sultan Sir Hishamuddin Alam Shah Al-haj 👑 (1938-1960) & worn by his consort the Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Jemaah

The tradition of Telepuk art has continued since the beginning of the formation of the Sultanate of Selangor in 1766, based on the discovery of cultural artifacts in the form of Telepuk stamp belonging to Raja Penuh, the son of Raja Lumu, the 1️⃣st Sultan of Selangor. The stamp engraved with the name of Raja Penuh is kept on Daik Island, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province, Indonesia 🇮🇩

The use of Telepuk art cloth continued until the next reign. From here, the tradition of Telepuk art developed in the Selangor Palace 👑 & the use of telepuk cloth continued during the reigns of Sultan Abdul Samad Ibni Raja Abdullah (1857-1898), Sultan Ala’eddin Suleiman Shah Ibni Raja Muda Musa (1898-1938), Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Alhaj Ibni Sultan Ala’eddin Suleiman Shah (1938-1942) & (1945-1960) & Sultan Musa Giatuddin Riayat Shah Ibni Sultan Ala’eddin Suleiman Shah (1942-1945)

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt this art technique briefly from the friendly carnival staff on duty at the carnival

This traditional technique involves creating motifs & designs on fabric, especially woven cloth, using a stamping technique with gold 💛 leaf, often uses 24K gold 💛 leaf

The process started with stamp Arabic gum onto the forearm, followed by the telepuk stamp carved with motifs. The gum acts as an adhesive for the gold 💛 leaf, which is then pressed onto the fabric

Gold 💛 leaf is imported from Thailand 🇹🇭 for its superior quality. It’s produced in Thailand because it’s traditionally used in the royal attire of the King of Thailand 👑

It refers to a traditional textile art that is recognized as a royal heritage & is currently in the process of being gazetted as the Official Textile Art Heritage of the State of Selangor

♬ Gamelan Symphony – FASSounds

This art produces luxurious decorations using gold 💛 tinsel on fabric, which was once styled by the palace 👑 & royal families, & is now being worked on to preserve & elevate its dignity through various programs & documentation

However, no water ❌💦 or hand wash on Telepuk art textiles because it can damage the golden 💛 motifs which adorned the textile’s surface. She has understood briefly about the art of washing Telepuk textile which requires special techniques to preserve the cloth. After each wear, it’s cleaned by smoking aka “Bertunu” in Malay language. Bertunu means drying the cloth with fragrant smoke produced from traditional ingredients burned in a steaming container & placed under a rattan trap

Traditional fragrance ingredients for making dry laundry with 7️⃣ dried plants are Rose 🌹, Jasmine, Kenanga, (Tpaka, Kesidang, Tanjung, Kemunting, some other woods 🪵 & fragrances eg. Agarwood, iatincana, kasturi wood, hampastebu, frankincense & white granulated sugar are impregnated. These ingredients when mixed will produce a fragrant aroma

The dry laundry process is usually done by burning 🔥 the ingredients in a large impregnating container & placed under a rattan trap. The Telepuk clothes will be placed on the rattan trap & turned over several times until all parts receive fragrant smoke & last up to 3️⃣ months

Recognition as heritage: The Selangor State Government is actively conducting research & documentation to gazette the Telepuk art as an official state heritage. This effort is expected to be completed & gazetted in near future to ensure that this art is preserved for future generations

History & uses: This heritage art has been in Selangor for a long time & has even been a symbol of pride for the royal 👑 family for the past 300 years. It’s used to decorate ceremonial clothing such as tanjak, samping & selendang worn for official events & weddings. Telepuk art is also used in decorating the wings of the Wau Kapal, the official Selangor kite, using gold 💛 tinsel or carved colored paper

Production process: The process involves pasting flower motifs with gold 💛 tinsel on fine fabric using the woodblock technique. The attached gold tinsel gives the fabric a unique shine ✨

Conservation efforts: The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) has launched a special book titled ‘TELEPUK, Bunga-bunga Emas Yang Dilupai’ to promote this art. Demonstrations of this art production are also held at Muzium Selangor 🏛️ to expose the public to the subtleties of this heritage traditional art

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt a deeper appreciation 🙏🏻💖 for the artistry, history & ongoing efforts to conserve & preserve this heritage traditions alive ~ Telepuk Textile Art

Though it’s not popular & the choice of ideas to the local fashion designers. Today younger generations, especially Malays are not familiar & unacknowledged about this Telepuk textile art as the great 👍🏻 Malay traditional textile art form. This preservation initiative already identified the floral motif of the Telepuk textile & led to a systematic inquiry in documenting the aesthetic values of the Malay treasure of the Malay Selangor heritage textile. It also documented & compiled the aesthetic & philosophical values of treasure of the Telepuk textile as the Selangor Malay traditional royal court fabric
