Guess what❓⁉️

1️⃣st impression when she 👩🏻 stepped into this campus, she felt young again as an university student 👩🏻‍🎓, busy rushing to hall for courses, then assignment research time at library etc. all her happy & busy student life was flashing back all at once, lol 🤭🤗

Hmm…She does has a thought that she wants to back to student life in here, UTP, a beautiful calm campus, gonna checking out its postgraduates programs , haha 😃😁

UTP was established on 10 Jan 1997 as a leading private university in Perak, Malaysia 🎓🇲🇾 This campus was built up of 500 acres on a 1K acres land site which strategically located at📍Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak. It’s a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) ie. the national oil & gas company of Malaysia 🇲🇾

It has residential villages aka students villages ie. Students accommodations 👩🏻‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓🧑🏻‍🎓🛌😴💤 All students are offer to stay in the student villages except for post graduates students with options whether to stay in a students village or outside the campus. Each students villages with its own set of facilities, wow‼️😲 There are 20% international students , as well as international student internships here in UTP. The Student Village 1 is an inheritance from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), while Student Village 2 in hostels style with 2 pax in a room & Student Villages 3 to 6 are in apartment style. This area is restricted area & permission is required to enter ya ⛔🚫

UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science & technology programmes at undergraduate & postgraduate levels with aims to producing well-rounded graduates with excellent leadership qualities & communication abilities. It also conducts extensive research activities in collaboration 🤝🏻 with PETRONAS, other institutions & industries both local & overseas on some specific research focus & niche areas. Within the campus compound, there are self-sustainable buildings, transport infrastructures, health analytics, hydrocarbon recovery, contaminant management & autonomous system 👍🏻

Ohh ya…UTP has continuously achieved numerous national & international recognition 🎖️🏆of its establishment. It’s now ranked no. 361 in the QS World University Rankings 2023 ie. 1️⃣ of the most-widely read university rankings in the world based on the ranking criteria of academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network & employment outcome. (1) Chancellor Complex

It’s an award 🎖️ winning architectural masterpiece with its 240K sqm, 21m high & 150m diameter complex’s grand aesthetic & symmetry which are the splendid design work of world 🌎 renowned architecture named Lord Norman from Foster & Partners. Yes ✅, it has won The Aga Khan for Architecture in 2007 👏🏻👏🏻The vast inverted spoon shaped roof protects the complex from extreme weather & the steel glass structure provides a sense of space to the area & reveals the functional usage of this building, as well as the intricate but subtle traditional songket design of the claddings. It’s Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) ♿✅ friendly of this multi-functional event space. It convenes a wide range of student activities with amenities eg. Information Resource Centre 📚 , cafés ☕ , stores, a clinic 🏥 & a student center. Also a solar panel on its roof top

UTP’s green efforts gained some recognition as UTP has emerged as the 1️⃣st runner up 🥇 for the Special Awards in the National Energy Awards (NEA) 2022 under the Institute of Higher Learning category, bravo 👏🏻👏🏻

The 4️⃣-storey high structure R&D building aka Research Park of UTP is a leading-edge research facility with 65 laboratories & offices. This is a restricted area & permission is required for a visit. This building is already granted as a green building (Green Index compliant) & moving forward UTP is planning to apply Chancellor Complex as a green building too

(2) Solar Panel

UTP owns the 1️⃣st & largest capacity of 7.4MWp for single roof top solar panel installation in Malaysia 🇲🇾

Some of the media members during this trip have suggested to having hot air balloons ride available in the future, so the visitors can enjoy the close up views of the solar panel on top of the Chancellor Complex 😍🤩

(3) An Nur Mosque 🕌 & Islamic Centre

It’s a majestic 4K sqm floating mosque 🕌 with its serene structure holds a main prayer hall, a covered praying area, a holding room for visitors & ablution facilities. It’s 1️⃣ of the PETRONAS’ commitments in contributing to the well-being of the community with capacity to accommodate up to 8K people & was completed in 2005

This mosque is open for public for Solat Jumaat, so all Muslims residents nearby can visit it to perform your Friday prayers in this mosque 🕌

(4) Information Resource Centre (IRC) 📚

It was established in July 1997 as a support centre for academic activities of the university students & lecturers. It lies at the heart of the Chancellor Complex
It’s now open to public, if you wish to loan any books or resources from it, you will need to subscribe as its member with an annual fee, do check out their website for more info

It has an impressive open display of books in 4️⃣-storey high shelves which inspired by the design of an oil rigs. It’s now storing more than 200K book titles & materials 📚 It also with an integrated library system known as ‘Sierra’ & open to all its students, including the public. It helps to loan books 📚 from other local libraries or foreign libraries eg. British library or other databases not available at the moment

It owns a collection of more than 12 million scientific & non-scientific materials for 🆓 via its “Knowledge Hub” or “UTP K-Hub”. It’s an extended version of university knowledge portal cum gateway which successfully implemented since 2017 with its powerful search engine to reach the aggregator of almost 130 databases / connectors. (5) Geological Rock 🪨⛰️ Garden

The 1️⃣st & largest geological garden in Malaysia 🇲🇾 by Geoscience Department in UTP, ie. It offers an accredited course from Geology, the Earth science. Yes✅, its Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Petroleum Geoscience programme becomes the 1️⃣st in South East Asia 🌏 & Malaysia 🇲🇾 to obtain accreditation from Geological Society of London, bravo 👏🏻

During her recent visit, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 had entered it from the Oval Park ie. A hotspot for recreational sports & its 1.2km track allows all to enjoy a refreshing jogging 👟🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏻‍♂️with surrounding natural foliage & greenery, as well as big trees 🌳🌳 that provide shade & relaxation

This rock garden ⛰️🪨 aims to celebrate Malaysia’s rich geological heritage, to promote the world of Geoscience & as an iconic landmark for an education tourism, a physical & digital information hub, an active learning medium in curriculum, as well as learning competition platform equipped with digital library, Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR) with industrial network in place

It’s built on the UTP lake side 2️⃣ with a design of ~ Travel Back In Time ~ of 5️⃣ specific thematic geological period & major focal area with each showcasing the diversity of the rocks ⛰️🪨 & geological formation respectively,

1. Early Earth ~ Evolution of the Earth 🌍
2. Paleozoic ~ Early life form of the Earth 🌍
3. Mesozoic ~ With life size replica of dinosaurs 🦖🦕 & Mammoth 🦣
4. Cenozoic ~ Rise of Man
5. Special section for Oil & Gas (O&G) during Cenozoic ~ The creation of Malaysia ‘s 🇲🇾 petroleum system, with O&G activities & sedimentary rock types

Currently, UTP is working on to collect & then demonstrate each state rocks from different time scales in Malaysia 🇲🇾 They are open for sponsorship whether cash or in kind, do check out more via 🌐 if you’re with interest to contribute in building this rock garden 🪨⛰️
In the future, the visitors can choose whether to start to tour this rock garden whether from the earliest time or vice versa from its entrance ie. Zones labelled in Yellow 💛 , Orange 🧡, Blue 💙, Purple 💜 etc. The bridges 🌉🌉 are used to distinguish each of the different thematic periods

Still in progress to install signboards & explanation QR codes for the visitors to scan & explore more historical & geological info digitally moving forward

(6) UTP Trail

In the future, there will be a UTP trail for all visitors to explore the nature hidden gems & some endangered flora & fauna species in its forest 🌳🌳 This nature trail idea was inspired & mooted from the Imbak Canyon visit by the management team

UTP campus compound is with 7️⃣ lakes from the mining old days & with a few remaining freshwater swap forest 🌳🌳 in the district of Kinta Tengah, Perak 🇲🇾 It contains high diversity in flora 🌿🌱🌳 & UTP has working together with FRIM on rehabilitation process on these lands with lakes
Not just that, in 2013, UTP has engaged with FRIM to protect 4️⃣ endangered tree 🌳🌳 species namely Vatica Flavida (Resak Padi), Shorea Hemsleyana (Cengal Pasir Daun Besar), Shorea Macrantha (Kepong Hantu) & Aquilaria Malaccensis (Karas) that have been touted as Malaysia’s 🇲🇾 heritage. It’s now an important conservation area for these threatened Dipterocarpaceae

There are on going efforts to reserve these endangered species trees 🌳🌳 with proper labels to avoid them being cut for future campus development

UTP trail is with sponsorship from Yayasan PETRONAS to invest in building the board walk that is friendly for both senior citizens & kids as an educational trail with the displays of information boards

Suggestions from the media members that for UTP to have parents & kids to visit, also to work with MNS Society, as well as collaborate with nature guides etc. on this UTP Trail once it’s ready to open to public then
