Superman’s Bahraini, is it?

Superman
“Not only am I awesome, I’m Bahraini too” says a sticker outside this curio shop tucked away in the by-lanes of Old Muharraq Town. And, of course, one cannot help but notice a larger than life-size model of Superman, wearing the traditional Bahraini headgear. Maybe, the sticker should’ve read: “Not only am I awesome, I’m Superman – and Bahraini.”

Just Another (May) Day

Image

This was two years ago – today! Whether in Bahrain or anywhere else in the world, nothing’s changed – nothing ever changes for this lot! And we, the “well-off” go around claiming we are doing our bit. But where is the evidence? Worth a thought!

Time for all workers to relax, rest and contemplate. These are some pictures to show what they were doing today. There are also a few pictures showing what can pass off as their “livingaccommodation” – ramshackle structures they call home.
It’s for the readers to make what they can of these images!
All I can say, it was just another day!

‘Skeleton’ at the ‘graveyard’

The Skeleton
I found this picture of a rotting and disintegrating dhow – resembling the skeleton of a dinosaur – in an area off the coast of Muharraq, Bahrain they call ‘The Graveyard’ for such craft as well as old fishing boats. Uncanny that it resembles what it does and at the location where it is!

Macro this

The colours of the winter are awesome. In the part of the world where I am, our winter is the autumn – with lots of flowers, greenery and a beautiful feeling.
I stepped out this morning with a macro filter attached to my Nikon and some of the results are shown here. One can never fully fathom the beauty and intricacies of nature with the human eye – you have to have assistance – and when it comes in the form of a macro lens (or filter), the “flowers within the flowers” are so easily seen.
I am enjoying the garden, and the winter, but it’s only a few more weeks to go before the dust, the grime and the head, settle in!
Until then, I am keeping my eyes – and senses – open!

A splash of colour

Galali
A whole new look at Bahrain’s Galali Township from a helicopter. One can never appreciate the ‘real’ and ‘true’ colours of houses, lanes and streets as one drives along but the striking colourful beauty comes across picture-perfect from an Ariel photograph.
