Anybody speak ‘bird’?

Scores of pigeons relax on a telephone wire before retiring for the day

Several moments before I took this picture, I wondered what these birds might be saying to each other after a rather strenuous day out. The racket they made was deafening and ‘exciting’. They were visibly happy, however. I wish we spoke their language. How awesome would that be?

Reaching for the sky

What I am interested in with birds, just as I am with spiders or monkeys, is what they do and why they do it.

The Huddle

unnammmedPigeons gather on the parapet of a mosque in Manama late in the evening, perhaps to catch up on the day’s happenings and exchange ‘gossip’.
The community spirit among birds is something that we humans should take as an example and implement in our own lives.

Pigeons’ cat

DSC_0851To most people, this might look bizarre. A cat among pigeons! And everyone seems to be perfectly at home. I have never known cats and birds to co-exist and remember once seeing a feline ruthlessly ‘execute’ the neighbour’s pet parrot. Which led him to bring another one and that, too, was summarily taken apart.
In the not too distant past, I have sometimes seen cats and chicken together, looking for food in the same rubbish heap but they’ve always been at a safe distance.
On this Muharraq street, however, it’s all peace in the name of food. A tad bit untidy and littered but a sight all the same as the rather large cat sits patiently for its turn while the pigeons feed!
Nature has some strange sights up its sleeve!
