Grateful

Cooled down this morning and the wind was back.

Buddy was moving pretty well and Rebel was just a little better (still gimpy).  I caught a video of them going to the water trough.

Eventually they made their way to the pasture...that's an improvement from yesterday.
Little Wonder was game to assist with chores morning and evening.
Jessy, our farrier, arrived at 1.  I was hoping that she could assess both horses and would be able to trim them.  Buddy went first and....success......

She left the wrap on Rebel's foot while she trimmed the others so he would have some extra support.
He also was able to be trimmed all around.  Happy number 2.

Jessy was kind enough to put a new poultice and wrap on him.  It was good to catch a break.
They were turned back out and I put them in at 5 for evening chores.  So glad they were moving around.  I have spent a lot of time worrying and am doing as much as I can to keep them comfortable.  They even have extra shavings.

Dinner at 6.  Earlier I had made a crockpot full of peppers, onions, our homemade sauce and Italian sausage.  A very light sauce....served on spags with a salad.  I was so hungry.

Night all.

41 Degrees

That should make me very happy!  But no...I spent the day worrying about my lame Rebel and as if that is not enough, this morning Buddy rolled in the deep snow and did something to his right front.  Two gimpy horses and two gimpy owners.  I have really reached my capacity.

Buddy and Rebel barely moved all day long.
Little Wonder joined me when I went out to take Rebel's temperature.  It was still cold at that time so he wore his sweater.

This is the first day Sidney has wanted to go outside and he went straight to the barn.

Once it warmed up, LW was happy to be naked.
At 2pm we had an appointment to have our taxes done and for a change, we are getting a refund.
Earlier I had a conversation with my most knowledgeable horse pal and the farrier and decided to try another approach to treating Rebel's left front foot.  It involved putting on a poultice/wrap and it took me forever as I have never used this method before.
Such a pain.  Once the vet wrap was on I covered it with duct tape.  It will have to come off again tomorrow when the farrier gets here.  Don't know if either horse will able to be trimmed....and they need it.  Nothing is easy lately.
I had to lead Rebel back to his stall....

and eventually Buddy showed up.  The barn temperature was 30 degrees and they are no longer double blanketed.
Yep...Little Wonder joined me again.  So did Sid.
Night all.

An Upper

Yahoo!  We almost made it to 20 degrees today.

Do you think we have enough snow?
Little Wonder did not join me for morning chores, but he did get a little time in the sunshine.
We  played some music today instead of tomorrow as Gary and I need to have our taxes done right in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday.  Darryl, Gary and John got here at 1 and once again we messed around for a couple of hours.

Obviously I can't play and video at the same time....
Just remember, we are just learning some of these songs so we are not there yet.
The good news....we are having fun.
The clip below from a song John wrote.
Darryl and Gary give Sid so much attention.
After they left I put together the bean salad I had made earlier.
Chores at 5:30.  Rebel still had his boot on.

Got them tucked in and had no plans to make dinner.

We went down to 58 Main and had BBCued Meatloaf.
I can always feel it when I don't have some afternoon nap time.  This weather has done a number on me.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be 38 degrees and I can't wait.
Night all.

Jenny to the Rescue

I must admit that this is the best day we have had in ages.  The temperature made it to 11 degrees.  Right now it feels like -7.

Last night I was out in the barn at 11pm with warm water and more hay.

This morning Rebel and Buddy wanted no part of staying in their suites so I turned them out and set up their stalls so they could go in and out whenever they wanted.  Tried to bribe them with hay nets but they were ignored.

Jenny arrived right after I got out to the barn and helped get the water trough in gear.  It was frozen....almost solid as the water level was low and it was not plugged in while the boys were inside.  She brought out a lot of hot water and then did some snow blowing.  Over to the indoor and a nice path out to the pasture where they stand.  Gary had already blown the driveway and it was in good shape.

Rebel was still hurting and I decided to start treating him for an abscess.  Soaked him for over half an hour and it must have felt good....he did not move once.
Buddy kept him company, and we were in the grooming room for over an hour.

It took me forever to get him wrapped.  First, a diaper with sole pack in it....then a sock, then vet wrap then duct tape (which was a pain since it was so cold).  I also put some old homemade wraps on his legs to keep him a little warmer while he was outside.  Led them over to their stalls when finished...but they preferred to be out in the sun.
I even set up hay and hot water in the run in by Buddy's stall.  Nope.  They wanted to be outside.

This was the first day for Winter Serenades.  Fortunately the roads were in good enough shape they did not have to cancel.  What a fabulous concert!
THE BROWNING-KEUG DUO.
Grace Browning is a harpist and her husband, Benjamin Krug, plays the cello.  Both perform with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and have also performed with many other symphonies as well.
Listen.
It was still so bright outside I did not go out to the barn until after 5.

No unusual colors tonight....this was round 6pm.

On behalf of the Super Bowl I made some Asian wings for dinner.  Did not have any green onions to garnish them....oh well.
A quick salad and that was it.
I have been very distracted lately.  Don't tune into the news so much....can't get into the Olympics and I am waiting for half time at the Super Bowl.
Where's Little Wonder?
Night all.
