Assalamualaikum brothers and sisters
I am talking about music again! For the second time, you can find my first post here. Why am I talking about music? It seems there are debates on facebook about music. I am just going to talk about my personal views on this. If anyone disagree, you might as well leave this blog, as I stated, this is my personal opinion. Last time I check, everyone is entitled for their own opinion.
A certain individual who did his hijrah stir a controversy by playing a musical instrument in the masjid. One controversy hasn’t settled down, another controversy was created when the same individual decided to participate and perform on a new year’s eve celebration, in which most claimed to be islamic. Hot debate continues when this individual, with his followers stand firm on advocating music in the name of the deen.
Let me tell you where I stand on the whole issue on music. I am against listening to music. I am more incline towards music is haraam. BUT, that doesn’t mean I am one who go around the blocks telling people to stop listening to music. I respect you, and you respect me. That’s it. I myself still listen to nasheed. What I am against is advocating music in the name of the deen! If you want to listen to music, fine, go ahead. No one is stopping you! BUT do not paint an image that it is good, acceptable and bla bla. I’ve seen comments like “Music is natural for human”, “Music brings peacefulness”, “Musics is beautiful”. Astaghfirullahalazim! Doesn’t Kalamullah brings peace to you? Are they not beautiful enough to your ear? There is no such thing as music is natural! What of the scholars who does not listen to music? What of the Four Imam (Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam Malik, Imam Syafie and Imam Ahmad) who forbade music? Are you calling these people unnatural? Seriously!
I mentioned this before, I was a huge fan of music. I had 30GB of music and tons of CDs. All of them are no longer in my possession. I was heavily involved in metal music. I did album reviews, I wore metal shirts with pride, and.. yeah, you got the drill. but it was Allah’s will that I find my way back to the deen and leave my past behind. Lately, I have been listening to music again… So frustrating! I’ve been listening to a lot of nasheed. I used to listen to Al-Quraan and lectures in my car whenever I am driving alone and my nasheed collections are strictly for whenever I have passengers. As of late, I listen to nasheed when I’m alone too. That frustrates me. I no longer listen to Al-Quraan, and I do not recite Al-Quraan as much as I used to. π¦ I used to read them daily! Now I am struggling to get rid of these music. I have been updating my ipod with more lectures and tafseer classes.
Still not convince the harm of music on us? Let’s ask ourselves, in 24 hours, how many hours do we listen to music? then how many hours do we spend on reciting Al-Quraan? Or listening to Al-Quraan recitation and lectures?
Now ask yourself how many times do you cry listening to certain songs, thinking the song was written for you? How many times do we cry reciting the Al-Quraan, thinking just how beautiful the ayah is, and makes your love for Allah and His Messenger deeper?
Another one. Ask yourself, just how many songs do you memorise the lyrics? know the title just by listening to the intro? Know the artists just by the voice?
Now how many surah do we memorise? know when an ayah was recited, from which surah it was? knows and memorise the hadith?
You be the judge. Do not be too egoistical. Do you think music brings more harm or not?
So, think of whatever you’re saying. Sometimes what we think is good, doesn’t mean it’s always good. There things that we didn’t manage to analyse. As I stated earlier. If you want to listen to music, go ahead, have the time of your life. BUT DO NOT ADVOCATE IT IN THE NAME OF THE DEEN! with this, I’m leaving you with a video containing further explanation on the harm of music
May Allah guide us to the righteous path, the way of the salaf us-saalih, and grant us jannah. May Allah protect us from the disbelievers and jahannam.Β
