Open Source Assembly Operating System Kernels for Linux

The goal of the project is now to develop a user library called libpfm4 to help setup performance events for use with the perf_events Linux kernel interface. The development of the perfmon kernel subsystem, libpfm and pfmon has now stopped.

The Xbox Linux Project aims to privide a version of GNU/Linux for the Xbox, so that it can be used as an ordinary computer. Linux should make use of all Xbox hardware and allow to install and run software from standard i386 Linux distributions.

LUnix (little UNIX) is an operating system for the Commodore64 - a famous home computer back in the 80s. It supports TCP/IP networking (SLIP or PPP using a RS232 interface). LUnix aims to look and feel like UNIX.

UEFI GPT fdisk is a port to UEFI of the famous GPT fdisk partitioning tool, see http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . Now since this program runs directly under UEFI shell you don't need to *boot* the system to convert/edit partition tables.

This project is an effort to develop open source software for all old platforms, like MSX, Commodore, AMIGA, Atari, ..... and collect technical information about old platforms, keeping the "old skool" flame alive.

ELKS is a subset of the Linux kernel that runs on IBM compatible PCs from 8086 up. It is intended to get use out of obsolete old hardware, for use in embedded systems, and as an educational tool. ELKS has been moved to Github to protest SourceForge's installer adware hijacking. This does not directly affect ELKS, but it does affect many major open source projects such as Gimp and FileZilla by attempting to trick the user into installing adware in order to download these programs. FreeWPC is a software framework for writing new software for 1990's Bally/Williams pinball machines. The framework allows you to build your own ROM images, define your own game rules, incorporate dot matrix animations, design lamp shows, and so on.

FiwixOS 3 is a Fiwix distribution, an operating system made from a software collection that is based upon the Fiwix kernel. It basically comprises a Fiwix kernel, GNU tools, libraries and additional software. All the included software is free and open-source software made available both as compiled binaries and in source code form, which allows modifications to the original software. FiwixOS 3 uses the Newlib v3.1.0 as its C standard library, and the Ext2 as its primary file system. Fiwix is an operating system kernel written from scratch, based on the UNIX architecture and fully focused on being POSIX compatible. It is designed and developed mainly as a hobby OS and, since it serves also for educational purposes, the kernel code is kept as simple as possible for the benefit of students and OS enthusiasts. It is small in size (less than 40,000 lines of code), runs on the i386 hardware platform and is compatible with a good base of existing GNU applications.

This project aims to pool together as many kernel projects as possible, ironing out conflicts where possible, so that experimental kernel projects can get greater exposure, safely, and so that those projects can be tested under much more varied conditions
