Note: A Youtube video showing the installation can be found here: http://youtu.be/6dqgHE8g4is
Note that the current version of leJOS is 0.9.1, but the screens below have not yet been updated to reflect that.
Download the installer from https://sourceforge.net/projects/ev3.lejos.p/files/ and run it.
You should see the following screen:

Click Next and you should see:

Choose the JDK that you wish to use on your PC for compiling leJOS programs. Java 7 or 8 is recommended for this release. However, to use Java 8 on the EV3, you will need to create a suitable compact profile, so it is currently easiest to use Java 7 on the EV3, but Java 7 on the EV3 and Java 8 on the PC is fine.. If you don't already have a Java JDK installed, click Download JDK and follow the instructions.
When you have chosen your JDK, click Next and you should see:

Unless you have special requirements, chose the default destination and click Next. You should see:

It is usually best to install all the comonents. When you have chosen the optional components you want to install, click Next and you will see:

It is usually best to choose the default location. Click Next and you will see:

If you are happy to have a start menu item, just click Next. Otherwise check the box and click Next.
You will see:

If you are happy with all your choices, click Install.
If you have a previous installation of leJOS EV3, you will be prompted:

Click OK and the previous installation will be uninstalled.
Installation will then start. While installation is in progress, you will see:

When installation is complete, you will see:

You will need to create a SD card containing an 0.8.1-alpha version of leJOS EV3, unless you already have one.
You will need a blank SD card of at least 2GB and no more than 32GB. SDXC cards are not supported by the EV3 hardware. If you are reusing one from a previous version of leJOS EV3, you must delete all the files from it.
The SD card must be formatted as FAT32, must be empty, and must have at least 400MB of free space.
Insert your SD card into your SD drive, make sure the check box remains ticked, and click Finish, and the ev3sdcard utility will start.
You should see:

The file chosen for the lejos image to write to the disk is the one from the installation that you have just created, and should be correct.
If you have not yet downloaded the Oracle JRE for the EV3, click on the link and you will be taken to the Oracle web site to download it. You will need to create an account, if you do not already have one. If for some reason the link does not take you to the Oracle download page for the EV3/ARM JRE then please try downloading it from this location http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/javase/javaseemeddedev3-1982511.html Make sure you choose the Java 7 JRE not the Java 8 SDK, unless you plan to create a Java 8 compact profile.
When you have downloaded the Oracle JRE, click on the JRE button and choose the file. It should be in your Downloads directory, and its name starts ejre and ends .gz.
Make sure the card that your SD drive is in is selected and its name is displayed next to the Create button. If your SD drive is not in the list of drives, try pressing Refresh.
Once the drive and the files are selected, press Create and the files will be written to your SD card.
When the files have been written, you will see a message to that effect.
You should then safely eject the SD card, insert it into your EV3 brick and press the center button to start the EV3.
You should see the leJOS EV3 Logo on your EV3 LCD screen, and you will see the progress of the formatting and creation of the SD card image. It will take about 8 minutes, and at the end of the procss you will keep a short note sequence and the leJOS EV3 menu should be displayed.
You can then proceed to configure your Wifi dongle, if you have one, and then start developing leJOS programs.
We recommend using the Eclipse IDE for developing leJOS programs, with the leJOS EV3 Eclipse plugin - see [Installing the Eclipse plugin].
