Easy to install but the website is down as is the forum. The mirror is down (as a result running apt-get update is giving errors) and I can't seem to find another mirror via Google searching for it. I can't help but to think this project is dead.

FreeBSD 11.0 kernel released, support it ?! And use FreeBSD's bsd-libc?

I downloaded version 16.04 and installed it in VirtualBox 5.1.6 running under Windows. The installation is pretty lengthy, but finished without errors. ubuntuBSD runs amazingly stable despite its Beta version number - congrats to the developers! A major strength of ubuntuBSD is its support of GUI dialogs for most settings - comparable to a Linux system. However there are some issues: - software update through Xfce is faulty, i.e. hangs at some point and a one-way icon is shown in the status bar - "Umlaute", i.e. "ö,ä,ü" cannot be seen in the "Terminal" of Xfce (I use the Swiss german keyboard layout and I checked the ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15 and UTF-8 encodings) - The keyboard mapping is not set in virtual console, i.e. defaults to US - the Xfce shutdown offers only "Log Out". (Option "Shut Down" is greyed out). Under Virtual Box the function "Switch off by ACPI" shuts down the system, but is handeled faulty in doing a reboot afterwards ending in a BSD console.screen that is not helpful at all. - it is unclear which Virtual Box guest additions should be installed. Through the debian package manager the Linux additions are installed, but likely the FreeBSD guest additions are the correct ones (?).

Buggy install. Tried twice installation, first time freeze during setting up grub, second time freeze during unmounting cdrom after install. X send a core dump and xfce wouldn't work. This project needs more love before it could be called serious. Keep on going, the idea is good. It just need more work.

TL,DR: Needs work, but promising so far Setting up ZFS-on-root in the installer: Needs more in-situ help for the end-user Selecting and Installing Software -- I was able to use my local Squid proxy OK, but the step kept bombing out. I got it working by selecting the 1st option + OpenSSH + Minimal Xubuntu install. (Had to skip Samba + Print server + Xubuntu desktop.) BUG: 1st install try: installing Grub failed at "update-grub" in Vmware Workstation 11.1.3 FIX: Rebooted, deleted zfs logical volume and recreated, did same (minimal) software options as above, this time installing grub worked Ok NOTE: This distro REALLY needs a Forum where people can login and post, and a few HOWTOs. 1st impressions: Buggy default desktop -- hangs when I do Edit \ Prefences in the xfce4 Terminal or the XFCE Panel window, **no text virtual consoles** on screens 1-4... Only 1 virtual desktop by default?? + installed pkgs joe mc screen netcat == OK PROTIP: + Installing " lxde " display manager and running " lxrandr " to set the screen resolution seems to get around most of the bugginess so far. Also using LXTERMINAL instead of xfce's terminal. + Apt-get update/upgrade works with my proxy settings remembered from the install, which is nice. I was able to install Firefox web browser, but ' apt-file update ' doesn't do anything useful. This is needed to search for "whatprovides" a file/executable in a given (not necessarily installed) package. Observation: Most 1st-time users will get frustrated by a buggy installer. Feature requests: Text consoles on F1-F4 at least, put in (4) virtual desktops I really hope for the best for this distro, cautiously optimistic but time will tell... I am glad to help with additional testing and feedback, feel free to send me email related to such as long as it is $not-spam. :-)
