Corgi Tether Ball

Originally uploaded by squirrelqueen

Some of you who stop by here may know I have a fondness for a special dog named Mabel – a stray with apparently plenty of corgi in her bloodlines.

So you can understand when I ran across this video of corgis playing tether ball (which won’t let me embed it) I couldn’t stifle the “Awwwww” that escaped from me.

Looks like Mabel is going to have to get on some fitness regimen to compete with these canines.

Watch and smile.

Hairy Situation In The Gulf

The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is such a tremendous tragedy.

The gallons keep pouring out and it’s just a matter of time before the shit hits the fan oil hits the sand.

I had heard some tidbits about the use of human hair and animal furs to help absorb the noxious mess before it reached land.

Then I ran across an environmental page at Change.org that illuminates how we citizens of the planet can pitch in  in several different ways.

Upon spotting a link there that mentioned shaving your poodle to aid the cause, I clicked the link to Matter of Trust’s website. I didn’t realize just how amazing the fur/hair option is in cleaning up the oil spill.

This isn’t a new thing. They’ve been working since 1998 out of San Francisco.

There’s more info about it all in this video.

So shear those sheep, ship your sheers. Whatever it takes to save the gulf.

Cute Puppy Alert

Adorable!

This French Bulldog puppy is stuck on its back.

Although I’m not sure if it’s all canine or not.

I think, with all its difficulties in rolling over, there might be some turtle in its bloodline.

Dachshund Takes Laps in Pool

Archie the dachshund apparently loves his pool.

Lap after lap, round and round he goes.

The rhythmic splashing sounds he produces while making his steady laps around this kiddie wading pool are soothing to me for some reason.

It’s a week for mixing water and animals apparently. To see another animal enjoying splashing around, check out my this post from earlier in the week of an elk calf playing in a mud puddle.

Basketball Dog aka The Hoop Hound

I got a copy of this video in my e-mail the other day and had to share for all you fans of both sports and dogs.

I know we’re in the midst of football season, but this is a basketball-related one.

He dribbles … he scores!

I love an amiable hound who is eager to participate and please.

Rumors of the Squirrel Queen’s Demise …

I know, I know.

It’s been a long time since I’ve paid much or any attention to these digs, but I’m back.

Like the great Mark Twain said,  “Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.”

Between basketball season and my recovery from basketball season, the arrival of 10 puppies, a trip to the reunion of the original Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, enduring a viewing of “Twilight” and just taking a general mental break, I vow to bring you links to more stupid crap on the Internet on a consistent and regular basis.

That’s my promise to you – all 4 of you loyal readers out there.

More goofy junk from the www via the Squirrel Queen.

Thanks for stopping by and please come back again.

Mickey Rourke and Loki

Tim Gunn interviewed Mickey Rourke about what he was wearing on the red carpet at Oscar Night 2009.

Rourke could only reference his recently departed pet Loki, which he had as a companion for 18 years.

I’m very close to my pets and can only imagine how difficult it must be to have this huge event this week and then be mourning a beloved friend.

Squirrel Rescue

Don’t mess with my legion.

I’ve shown you before that they’ve got some made squirrel-fu skills.

Now, they’ve combined that with a fierce maternal nature.

Check out this momma squirrel vs. dastardly dog encounter with a baby squirrel at stake.

Slightly Warped has the whole sequence of photos from danger to squirrel rescue.

Super Bowl Commercials 2009

Edited to add: Here are all the Super Bowl 2009 commercials.

We all know frequently the best part of the Super Bowl is the commercials (except for last year’s game = great catch > Patriots undefeated one-loss season).

For those of you who can’t wait until kickoff, here’s a sampling of some of the ads that will be aired during the big game.

The Career Builder 2009 Super Bowl ad is one of my favorites that has been released early.

Baltimore Raven Ray Lewis doing ballet is also a bit out there in the Sobe Super Bowl 2009 ad.

Pedigree’s Super Bowl 2009 ad pushing their pet adoption program is also entertaining. Of course, in the spirit of clarity, I am a dog person.

Audi’s 2009 Super Bowl commercial has action star Jason Statham (one of Newscoma‘s favorites).

Of course I still love the commercial from the 2008 Super Bowl with the screaming squirrel.
