Some of you who stop by here may know I have a fondness for a special dog named Mabel – a stray with apparently plenty of corgi in her bloodlines.
So you can understand when I ran across this video of corgis playing tether ball (which won’t let me embed it) I couldn’t stifle the “Awwwww” that escaped from me.
Looks like Mabel is going to have to get on some fitness regimen to compete with these canines.

The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is such a tremendous tragedy.
The gallons keep pouring out and it’s just a matter of time before the shit hits the fan oil hits the sand.
I had heard some tidbits about the use of human hair and animal furs to help absorb the noxious mess before it reached land.
Then I ran across an environmental page at Change.org that illuminates how we citizens of the planet can pitch in in several different ways.
Upon spotting a link there that mentioned shaving your poodle to aid the cause, I clicked the link to Matter of Trust’s website. I didn’t realize just how amazing the fur/hair option is in cleaning up the oil spill.
This isn’t a new thing. They’ve been working since 1998 out of San Francisco.

So shear those sheep, ship your sheers. Whatever it takes to save the gulf.

Sometimes nature is heartbreaking.
A squirrel was run over and killed by a vehicle. Its loyal friend keeps scavenger crows from attacking its corpse. This just makes me choke up a little bit.

This French Bulldog puppy is stuck on its back.
Although I’m not sure if it’s all canine or not.
I think, with all its difficulties in rolling over, there might be some turtle in its bloodline.

Talk about a ride.
An injured bat clung to the space shuttle Discovery’s external fuel tank during its launch Sunday.
He was spotted hanging on to the tank prior to liftoff and an analysis was done to determine if he could damage the heat shields if he banged into them during the launch. The NASA folks determined it would be safe to take off with the critter still on board and did so.
The astro-bat was still visible on the shuttle when it passed the tower on the way up.
The tiny critter likely didn’t last too long after that though.

I would name this turtle Zippy if it were mine.
It reminds me of this hungry hamster.
Now, a turtle chases a tomato.

Just because I entitled this post “Elephant and Dog Create Friendship Bond” during my pseudo-presidential week, don’t fall into the trap of believing that this post is about Republican elephants and Blue dog Democrats crossing the aisle and singing Kumbaya.
Instead its about an actual pachyderm/canine friendship at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.

On The Elephant Sanctuary‘s Web site, they have an elephant camera that provides live footage of a field where the elephants roam.
Maybe this dog was the inspiration for those Air Bud movies.
Sadly, Mabel isn’t nearly this skilled in soccer, but she does play a mean game of field hockey. Although she objects a bit to the plaid skirts that are part of the uniform.
