Time Lapse Turtle and A Turtle Chasing A Tomato

I would name this turtle Zippy if it were mine.

It reminds me of this hungry hamster.

Now, a turtle chases a tomato.

It’s a lot of hard work for a red reward.

Elephant and Dog Create Friendship Bond

Just because I entitled  this post “Elephant and Dog Create Friendship Bond” during my pseudo-presidential week, don’t fall into the trap of believing that this post is about Republican elephants and Blue dog Democrats crossing the aisle and singing Kumbaya.

Instead its about an actual pachyderm/canine friendship at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.

Previously here at the Palace, we’ve linked to a 24-hour penguin camera at the Tennessee Aquarium

On The Elephant Sanctuary‘s Web site, they have an elephant camera that provides live footage of a field where the elephants roam.

Who Needs Pockets?

I got this in an e-mail with the subject line of “Who Needs Pockets?” and thought I would share it with all four of my readers.

There’s no holiday theme or political message, just good old ingenuity, a cute kid and frogs.

Kung Fu Squirrels

Nature photographer David Slater has come across a dojo family of very aggressive squirrels in Etosha National Park, Namibia.

These members of my legion throw down with some nasty fu and fighting forms.

Metro has the full story and more Fight Club pics.

Here’s a little extra squirrel action for you. No stuffed real squirrels were harmed in the making of this video.

Dolphins’ joy bubbles over

For all those folks burned out and left with a football/political hangover by Super Sunday and Super Tuesday, I offer up this bit of aquatic wonder. We always knew dolphins were smart. Now, we get to see Flipper frolic in a way that’s pretty amazing. As kids, we’ve all at one time or another stuck a plastic loop down into soapy water and blown irridescent bubbles into the breeze. These dolphins combine that feat with the seeming effort of juggling their bubbles. The underwater ballet is mesmerizing. And you thought smoke rings were cool.

It makes you wonder just what these mammals could do if only they had opposable thumbs. If global warming continues and Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld” vision comes to pass, we might be smart to stay on Flipper’s good side.

There are a couple of international aquariums that have beluga whales who do a similar trick.

Free fish and Flipper snacks for everyone.
