The Movie Timeline

For movie buffs out there, the Movie Timeline is an exhaustive chronological list of events that happened in movies starting with the dawn of time and the beginning of our planet

“In the beginning… God created the heavens and the earth (The Bible)”

all the way into the future to the year

“865,427,810 Alexander Hartdegen briefly arrives from 802,701 (The Time Machine)”

Everything else in between is included as well.

Here’s another example. All the things below happened in movies set in the year 1954.

“1954 Ray
Don Vito Corleone dies while playing with his granddaughter; Carlo Rizzi dies and his son Michael Francis Rizzi is born (The Godfather)
Godzilla is discovered and destroys Tokyo, before being killed by an oxygen destroyer (Godzilla, King of the Monsters!)
New England – Messrs Peacock, Scarlet, White, Plum, Mustard & Green may have murdered My Boddy, a cook, a maid, a policeman, a chauffeur & a singing telegram (Clue, 1985)
March 9: Edward Murrow broadcasts report condemning Senator McCarthy’s methods (Good Night, and Good Luck)
April 6: Senator McCarthy broadcasts his reply to Edward Murrow, accusing him of Communist leanings (Good Night, and Good Luck)
June: Squatney, London – Nigel Tufnel and David St Hubbins first meet, going on to form legendary rock band Spinal Tap (This Is Spinal Tap, 1984)
June 22: Christchurch, New Zealand – Teens Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme murder Pauline’s mother Honora (Heavenly Creatures)
November 24: Linda Porter dies, leaving Cole a widower who would rarely write again (De-Lovely)”

Interesting minutia for movie geeks. I’ll admit I didn’t read it all, skimmed it instead. Still, it’s a pretty cool list.

It’s interesting to see history overlap with fiction. Looking through the early 1940s, you see Pearl Harbor bombed and other World War II events listed because they were plot points in war movies.

I see the list being used as a reference tool for writers.

Hugh Jackman’s Opening Montage for 2009 Oscars

Wolverine did a bang-up job of singing and dancing his way through the Oscars’ opening number Sunday night.

Overall, I felt there was something lacking from this year’s Oscar telecast. I did feel there was some improvisational humor missing that you get when a comedian hosts the show.

Did anyone expect Slumdog Millionaire  to win that many Oscars? I didn’t expect them to take home 8.

What did you think about the show?

Slumdog Milllionaire Is Worthy

Slumdog Millionaire obviously won the hearts of more than just me apparently.

It took the big finale award at the 2009 Oscars and earned a total of 8 golden statues.

Congrats to a tale that took us from childhood in Mumbai to an adulthood that brought out the dark side in many characters.

And what a finale dance over the final credits.

Harvey Milk – Sean Penn – Oscar Winner

Sean Penn won the Oscar for best actor for his effort  in the movie Milk, representing the life story of Harvey Milk.

Sean Penn is an outspoken hero for those who are not often heard in the search for civil rights equality for all.

Kate Winslett Wins For Best Actress

After a wonderful presentation from everyone from Sophia Loren and Nicole Kidman,

it was great to hear Kate Winslet’s acceptance speech (including the whistle from her father) for the best actress award.

Heartfelt.

Tigger = Danny Boyle

So Danny Boyle won the 2009  Oscar for best director. He promised his kids a few years ago that he would jump like Tigger if he ever won the award. And he did. Promise fulfllled. Great movie.

All The Dead – Oscars 2009

When they reviewed all the Hollywood icons who passed in the past year, they saved Paul Newman for last (or first).

Newman was worthy of the greatest round of applause.

No question

Jerry Lewis Honored At Oscars

Jerry Lewis is being honored for his works as a humanitarian as much as an actor or comedian during the 2009 Oscars.

He held his usually gregarious self in check.

To me that says a lot about his current physical state.

I linked to him and his former partner Dean Martin during a recent Feel Good Friday.

May the man who has raised so much money (billions) for others in need enjoy the recognition.

Heath Ledger Oscar Winner

Heath Ledger wins the Supporting Actor Oscar posthumously.

His work was worthy no matter his current state.

Hollywood lost a true talent when he passed to next level in 2008.

Beyonce and Wolverine _ Oscars 2009

I am so digging on Beyonce and Hugh Jackman doing everything from Grease to High School Musical during a musical Oscars montage.

Amazing.

Bam!

Great finish from Judy Garland to Wicked!
