County Fair
Yesterday we took Boston to the County Fair. Our neighbors, Scott and Jackson came along also. We started off by going to the petting zoo. Boston does not like touching the animals or even getting near them. I bought a little cup of food and the goats were licking it out of my hand but he did not want to get close to them. If you tried to make him he would start screaming and use all of his little muscles to get away. Can you see the look of worry on his face?

We went on a Ferris Wheel ride. Boston loved it. He kept yelling down to Scott. "Hey look at me! I'm going round and round." Unfortunately it was so freezing cold that by this time Boston could not keep his chin from shivering.
He really loved riding the train. I thought he would be worried. But when the ride stopped he hopped off and was ready to look for another seat on the train. Spencer had to go in and carry him out crying. Luckily some cinnamon almonds cheered him up for the ride home.
Sticker Club
Boston got some stickers and a chain letter in the mail from an old high school friend of mine a couple of weeks ago. The idea is that you mail a pack of stickers to two people and send the letter to 6 friends. They send you stickers and continue the letter. I thought it sounded kind of fun and Boston loves stickers so we participated. I found out later that we were the only ones who did. So far we have received one letter with stickers (Thanks Kathryn.) Hopefully more come soon.
Boston has a special sticker book (an old address book) that we put all his stickers in. Sometimes we look through it and remember where he got different stickers or look for different colors. Sometimes we count the stickers or do different language activities (same beginning sounds, rhymes etc.) Boston really enjoys it and does not even realize he is learning.
Duvet
I finally finished! I started this project at least 2 months ago and have finally finished. Of course it really began a few years ago when I found a cool quilt in a catalog. I ripped it out and saved it in my sketch book for another day. Then I decided a little while ago that I wanted to make a duvet for the twin bed in Boston's room.
First I ripped apart a bunch of our old jeans and cut the leg pieces into rectangles. Then I dyed them black. Next I sewed the rectangles into strips and the strips into the size and shape needed for a twin bed. I sewed them rag style, so that the seams are on the top. Then I cut a hole out for the moon and stitched the white fabric behind the jeans. That was the most difficult step and is far from perfect. I even had to rip the moon out once. It was hard to get it to lay flat and not bunch up. Next I drew the stars on with chalk and used heavy white thread to outline them on the blue background. Lastly I sewed a twin sheet along the sides and top. In the winter I can put a blanket or two on the in between the quilt top and sheet and in the summer it can be left empty.
Historical Note: The bed is Boston's Great Great Great Great Grandma's Jenny Lind frame. I used it as a child and teen and it was my Dad's before that.

Camping
Spencer has been waiting a long time for his first camp out with his son. First they set up the tent. All went well until it was time to put the poles together. Things got a little crazy. Once the tent was up, we headed off to fish. Well sort of. Spencer did most of the fishing and Boston threw rocks into the river. We enjoyed some delicious tin foil dinners and roasted marshmallows before heading to bed. It got pretty cold that night and then the squirrels and birds started making noise very early so it was not a great night of sleep. Boston woke up and started crying and screaming to go home at 7 am. We got in the truck and turned on the heater ate a little breakfast and he was a happy camper again. We are going to try camping somewhere a little warmer next month.

Popsicles
Can man live on popsicles alone?
I hope so. That is all Boston wants to eat. I figure the fruit flavor counts as a serving of fruit. I'm looking for some broccoli or carrot ones so he gets some vegetables also.

Beautiful Cakes
My mom took Boston to the store for groceries on Monday. She went over by their LARGE bakery and Boston said, "Oh! Grandma look at all of those beautiful cakes." He started singing "Happy Birthday" and was bouncing up and down in the cart. By now he had a small audience. He pointed to a large chocolate cake with red roses on it and continuing to bounce said, "Grandma it is so beautiful. Can we buy it?" My mom looked at the price and said "Not today." One of the customers said "Awww! Come on." So they found a better priced and sized cake to buy. As soon as Boston saw me he said, "Mom we got a beautiful birthday cake!" I was surprised because it is not even close to any one's birthday but then my mom told me the story. When we brought the cake in and set it on the table Boston climbed up on the table and put his face right on the plastic cover. "Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!" he said. He was so excited. So we did the whole candle and singing thing.
