Digital technology is reshaping our world, presenting powerful tools to drive sustainable development forward. At the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and George Genereux Urban Regional Park, digital innovations like mobile apps and artificial intelligence are playing a vital role in advancing our environmental goals.
Data from these technologies aids in making informed decisions, impacting over 70% of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and potentially saving up to USD 55 trillion in the process. While younger generations are at the forefront of this digital revolution, with 75% of 15 to 24-year-olds online in 2022, there are still gaps in digital access, especially in lower-income areas and among young women.
Despite these challenges, the youth, known as “digital natives,” are leveraging technology to tackle global challenges and drive positive change. As we approach the 2030 SDG deadline, their role in digital innovation is crucial.
Celebrate the impact of youth in digital solutions by participating in the United Nations International Youth Day 2024! We are calling for submissions of youth-led or youth-focused digital projects that address the SDGs. Selected projects will be highlighted in the UN’s International Youth Day 2024 case study infographics and featured across UN platforms.
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs will commemorate this day with several initiatives, including:
- Social Inclusion Case Study Infographics: Showcasing a collection of youth digital solutions and innovative initiatives aimed at accelerating Sustainable Devleopment Goal SDG implementation.
- Interactive Online Quizzes: Designed to enhance understanding of how digital technologies advance the SDGs.
- Social Media Toolkit: Providing key messages, data, and visual assets to amplify International Youth Day’s 2024 theme and encourage celebration within communities.
