Another day, another patch for ya

Gangru has been hard at work to make sure all of the issues are resolved! Hopefully, nothing new comes up, and y'all can enjoy the game!

What's new:

If the dog is following, he shows up on the sleep screen! Make sure not to disappoint the poor lad!
The player can defend himself from the Snow Demon using a crucifix.

Bug fixes:

Agatha doesn't show up in the caves if accessed before the Beet Festival;
Some snow sprite issues;
The mayor doesn't jitter anymore;
The screen size stretches correctly;
The mayor despawns at a proper time;
Movement and actions work after pressing alt tab;
Pawn shop inaccessible until fixed after 3 Days of Darkness;
Armor doesn't regenerate when the game is paused;
All fruit and herbs are cookable;
Collision issues in the sewers.

That should be most of it, if not all. We check the board and Discord approximately 3765442 times a day to make sure we have all the bugs, concerns, and suggestions noted!

It feels like ages since my last post! Oh, 3 days or so? Yeah, still.

Bug's never sleep, so I thought I'd do the same. I caught a lot of issues that you all have been very helpful in gathering. I tried to just run through as many as I humanly can finish. I am sure there will be some re-occurring issues or bugs that may need extra love and attention.

However, this is a good start and lots of exciting new stuff.

What's new:

There's a dog! I don't want to spoil too much, but you can find him in the Barrel area/Vasil's house (below the cottage with the boar fight). I'm sure there will be weird bugs with this guy. He's young.
Gifting NPC's is a little more intuitive and asks if you'd like to gift or talk before attempting.
Quests no longer require you to "hold" the item in hand. You can now just talk to NPC's and they should figure it out!
You can name the Dog! This required a new "naming popup". I will use this for the Snowman soon.
Scarecrow's now display their range of affect as well as specific crops that are protected. We also reduced the scarecrow's affective range a bit (sorry!)
Adjusted some prices to be more forgiving than before.
If you hold CTRL while hovering over an item in the inventory, it displays a cost table.
If you press ALT, it toggles "keep running", as to avoid having to hold shift all the time. Now that i think of it ALT was probably not the best button. So I might have to change that default key. You can change that setting in the Controls of course.
Seeds now also display their growth time in the shop. It might be a little inaccurate, I'm sure we will find out soon.
Added an "Edge block" to the caves, this block is unbreakable. For now?

Bug fixes:

Thief knife should be giftable now in those rare cases.
Turning in quest no longer requires quest item to be selected
Placing Thief's knife on table sometimes "renamed" the knife.
Spider boss shouldn't have the non-transformed version chilling in the corner.
Sometimes dying and re-spawning in house would get the player stuck in furniture.
3 days of darkness should be deleted on death. Stopping the infinite death cycle.
Dialogue now has a delay to clicking to avoid missing important decisions
Villagers were off screen in mansion basement. I adjusted their positions.
Fixed crash regarding killing wolves in Mansion. (I didn't know you could even kill them lol)
Wolf mask issues fixed (Too hard to explain)
Fixed issue with Sewer region where you could get stuck next to river.
Fixed issue where Wizard (Vasil) would not accept Night Crawler Eyes for quest. This was due to another quest taking priority, even if it was not finish-able.
Fixed issue where players got stuck if dying while "charging" an upgraded weapon.
Giant rat should increase max health now.
Fixed issue where player woke up invisible (kind of epic if you ask me, but all good lol).
Watering can capacity should increase with upgrade.
Fixed bug related to turning in Quests during Beet Festival resulted in Beet coins, not money.
Fixed bug where you could get infinite Wolf heads
Pig fence was invisible in winter. Now it should look like piles of snow
Sleep screen Crop "breakdown" was acting weird when scrolling.
The Secret tunnel (Sewer to shop) now has frozen water in winter
Detective head now has a more descriptive dialogue to avoid confusion over small pixel art.
Issue where mouse was acting like clicked. This one might still occur. If so, the settings need to be deleted/defaulted.
Recipes should show up after picking up. However, old saves might still see issues.
Time of day notifiers like "Noon", "Evening", etc were not showing up occasionally.
You no longer can walk out of beet festival from left side. (forget If this was last update)
Finished Quests should be always on the bottom of the note tab.
When dying to Well, more descriptive death screen. Previously it would say you lost "0" dollars. Which was a lie. Pretty much the opposite was true.
Mayor deposit quest crop number is more consistent.
Now Window size is "grayed" out if fullscreen is set.
Changing between fullscreen and "windowed fullscreen" was not properly saving.
Modified cutscenes to not have everyone be Fr. Vincent anymore.
Some more bugs that are too small to mention.

With the added dog, I actually had to write a smaller implementation of the "Animal management" system. Besmirch is not far off from having Cows, Chickens, etc. Honestly, wouldn't take me long to add all of those. Just drawing those darn barns would take up my development days.

Oh and the decrepit abominations that try to devour your Cows. That'll take some time too... o_O

Anyways! I'm pretty sure the remaining "bugs" are in the single digits. So I'm excited to wrap it all up very soon. I think this game has come a long way and it's impressive playing it and noticing how polished it's starting to feel.

I'm sure there are quite a few hidden bugs, but we will fix them in due time.

Also, with all the new little pieces of content. I'm sure more issues will come up.

Howdy partner!

Rangled up some bugs for y'all. Hope it'll suffice for now. I tried to clean up the "low hanging fruit". There are a couple notorious bugs that I still have to squash. I will try my best to get to those next.

Bug fixes:

No longer get Krecik statue quest after unlocking Golgotha
Townfolk shouldn't randomly disappear during Beet Festival.
There was a bug where you could swap your equipment with a non-equipment item if dragged from equipment slot to non-equipment slot.
Piano can be picked up now?? I know I said this last patch. There was a saving issue preventing the piano from still being picked up.
Fixed conflict in talking to NPC and trying to click Notice Board.
Fog damage while in loading screen cause room transition and black screen. This should no longer happen.
Mansion Bundle room no longer teleports you to corner of Farm map.
Player looked like they were "in snow" when walking on bridge.
You can no longer get the wolf mask without wearing the lamb shawl.
You can't sell items for beet bucks.
Duplicate Agatha quests were happening, now they are unique.
Money reads "N/A" when in beet festival. May change, but at least it doesn't say "0" and confuse players.
Supply box and shop prices were mismatched at times.
Mayor was stuck in dark region after specific cutscene.
Hunger now pauses during dialogue.
Backpack upgrade description is more descriptive.
Dead trees do not drop apples.
Vled's shop text now says "8am-5pm". before it innacurately stated "8pm".
Some NPC's were still alive despite being dead. I ensured they were dead.
Cooked beets sold for "20" when it should have been "40". Same for other cooked crops.
Some bundle issues overall were fixed. I have identified a couple other issues and will resolve soon in next patch.
Changed description of achievement to no longer say "Sewer" as it was misguiding players to the wrong sewer during Agatha quest.
Changed text "Clean sever" to be more descriptive of what the blurry pixel art was supposed to signify. If you know you know.

New things

Winter and Fall bundles give Furniture sets!
You can now unlock side door to Mansion dungeon (it was sometimes working, sometimes not before).
Scarecrow now has a "range" of protection when hovered! We will be working on testing the accuracy of range. For now, it at least serves as a general guide.

There are more bugs that I am working on. Once I am done tackling the last of these bugs, I will focus on adding a new dog and plenty of new features! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Besmirch is a farming survival RPG developed by Gangru Games and published by 2 Left Thumbs that takes familiar life-simulation ideas and twists them into something far darker. At first glance, it appears to borrow inspiration from peaceful farming games centered around crops, village life, and daily routines. That comfort quickly fades. Hidden beneath its agricultural systems is a survival horror experience driven by desperation, paranoia, and an oppressive atmosphere that transforms ordinary tasks into constant struggles for survival.

The game takes place in a failing settlement trapped under worsening conditions. Hunger spreads through the town, supplies become scarce, and the local population struggles beneath the demands of an uncaring ruler. Players arrive not as heroes destined to save the world immediately, but as another worker attempting to survive in a place where every decision carries consequences. Food matters because starvation is a real threat. Resources matter because there is never enough to satisfy everyone. Even routine farming responsibilities become heavier when survival itself depends on success.

Crop management forms the center of progression, but Besmirch treats farming differently than traditional entries in the genre. Growing food is not merely a way to earn currency or decorate land. Harvests become lifelines that influence both personal survival and the stability of the struggling community around you. Deciding where resources go creates meaningful tension. Keeping supplies for yourself may strengthen your chances of survival, but helping others builds trust and supports the town's future.

That social element becomes one of the strongest aspects of the experience. Besmirch presents a community shaped by fear and uncertainty. Villagers are not endlessly cheerful companions waiting to hand out rewards and encouragement. People are suspicious, frightened, and desperate. Relationships matter because public perception influences survival. Earning trust becomes another responsibility layered alongside farming and exploration.

The atmosphere deserves particular praise because it defines nearly every moment of gameplay. During daylight hours, Besmirch can occasionally resemble a familiar farming simulator. Fields require maintenance, resources need gathering, and daily responsibilities slowly build structure into survival routines. Those moments create a dangerous sense of comfort. When darkness arrives, the experience shifts dramatically.

Night transforms Besmirch into something far more threatening. Strange forces emerge beyond the safety of civilization. Ordinary exploration becomes dangerous. The world feels hostile in ways that create genuine tension rather than relying entirely on jump scares or constant combat. Darkness changes priorities. Survival becomes less about efficiency and more about endurance.

Exploration strengthens that tension effectively. Areas outside town borders contain secrets, supplies, abandoned locations, and fragments of a larger mystery slowly unfolding beneath the surface. The world rewards curiosity while simultaneously making exploration dangerous enough to remain stressful. Risk and reward remain closely connected throughout progression.

One of Besmirch's most impressive qualities is how naturally its horror and farming systems support one another. Horror elements never feel like decorations placed on top of unrelated mechanics. Resource scarcity strengthens tension. Community pressure influences survival decisions. Farming supports exploration while exploration reinforces the darker atmosphere surrounding daily life. The systems consistently work together rather than competing for attention.

The visual presentation contributes significantly to that success. Pixel art creates a familiar appearance initially, but Gangru Games uses that style effectively to build discomfort over time. Quiet farmland and ordinary village routines gradually collide with unsettling imagery and increasingly disturbing environments. The contrast strengthens the horror because fear emerges naturally from places that initially felt safe.

Audio design reinforces the atmosphere exceptionally well. Ambient sounds help maintain unease even during quieter moments. Music shifts effectively between peaceful farming sections and darker survival scenarios without making transitions feel forced. Sound becomes another tool supporting immersion rather than existing purely as background decoration.

Besmirch also benefits from its pacing. The game avoids overwhelming players immediately. Systems reveal themselves gradually while tension steadily builds alongside progression. Farming routines establish familiarity before darker elements begin dismantling any sense of security players may have developed. That progression creates stronger emotional impact than relying on horror alone.

As an Early Access project, the game naturally continues evolving. Certain features remain under development, and additional systems are planned to expand both survival mechanics and world depth over time. Some rough edges remain visible, particularly in areas still undergoing refinement. However, the current foundation already demonstrates considerable ambition and a clear creative direction.

Players expecting a relaxed farming simulator may find themselves surprised by how oppressive and demanding Besmirch becomes. Likewise, horror fans looking only for action-heavy survival mechanics may discover a slower experience focused more heavily on atmosphere and resource management. The game's strongest achievement lies in how confidently it blends those opposing ideas together.

Gangru Games succeeds by understanding that fear becomes more powerful when placed beside moments of routine and familiarity. Besmirch transforms farming into survival, community building into social pressure, and nighttime exploration into something genuinely unsettling. The result feels original within both farming simulation and horror genres.

Besmirch offers an unusual combination of agricultural management, village survival, exploration, and psychological tension that creates an experience unlike many of its influences. It remains ambitious, atmospheric, and deeply memorable because it fully commits to its darker identity.

Please cancel the instant kill

This is really disgusting. I spent ages mining ores in the game from morning till night. Then I got instantly killed out of nowhere by a charging monster before I could react. All my hard work went down the drain in an instant. Same with the swarm attack. Who would expect it to be an instant kill? The save intervals are way too long, so instant kill mechanics are totally unreasonable....
