Of Singular Mind - Driven Without Egos

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that even though Singularity didn't reach the playoffs of RBWT, well done nevertheless on being in with a shout for it until the very end of the swiss phase! As you might remember, we didn't really assemble our whole team until the tournament was about to go live so there was almost no time to get ourselves into the shape I had envisioned. But this wasn't a bad thing because the most important thing is that you guys now have tournament experience under your belts as Singularity members and there are a lot of lessons to take from the RBWT.

First off, the potential for us IS most certainly there and the RBWT proved it, no doubt! I've seen teams with weaker foundations than ours go very far in the past.

Secondly, you now know that while we've had a strong start for a team's birth, we cannot coast on our inductionary form anymore. How we play and how we develop will have to change a lot.

Thirdly, we cannot waste time copying other teams like Apollyon and co. Almost every active team has followed the same beaten path as each other: get together a bunch of experienced players (usually the ones who have been around longest or are currently putting in more hours than anyone else on record) and keep scrimming relentlessly on a daily basis. Would it work for us? Yes, but it would take AGES to do it! And why take ages when shortcuts are an option for us AND entail actually coming up with more solid and consistent forms of play that you almost never see anyone else using?

How do we achieve all of this? How do we realise our full potential, get out of our inductionary form which is no longer enough, and develop into a solid, competent team much quicker and in ways that no other active team is doing right now?

There's only one answer to that question: we have to change our mental models, as individuals and as a team. By mental model, I mean how you perceive the game. You have to cultivate a certain thought-process specifically attuned for comp L4D2, but it's not enough to say "I'm going to change the way I think" and then play a scrim 5 minutes later. This takes a little time and when we're online but don't have opponents to play, we could be using that time to get in vital practice and get ourselves used to what could be the Singularity mentality.

I will soon disclose more information privately on how we will go about this. But remember this: if you want to be a 'complete team' then copying and trying to emulate everyone else step-for-step in today's era simply won't do it, it's just not possible when it's arguable if there really are 'complete teams' at all in comp L4D2 anymore. We need to tread our own path and if you guys consent, I'm happy to show you where that path leads! ;)
