Actually don't play this if you are mentally unstable, I cried A LOT. Like alot alot.

And not even because the game itself is sad but rather because I interpreted alot into what was shown.
I don't even think there is one specific plot to get here, you kinda make your own using your own interpretation. Aaaand for me starting with the hill climb it kinda depicted how I imagine suicide to be, with the large white characters depicting Mom(s) looking down upon you, so that led to that reaction. (I'm actually a little embarrassed for this interpretation)

On a more neutral note - this was quite the experience. It's beautifully made, doesn't get boring (just maybe a bit tiring where the walk could have been just a little shorter), is short (~90 mins) and kinda explains itself (except for the story as I already touched on).
Before the whole crying tirade I was actually really happy; the little flying "birds" felt like they were my friends, boosting each other into the sky. The slides were really fun. The fellow travelers feature was also REALLY cool.

Theeeen the jumpscare section with the stupidly loud dragons happened, stealing my scarf (grr) and then the aforementioned hill climb.
This was seriously a rollercoaster of emotions.

I'd honestly recommend you to experience this little game (buy on sale). Just please be a bit more emotionally stable.

Soo, I came here to have a good time.
Instead I got hit with a traumatizing story in the first 10 minutes, got lost in the forest in the next 15 (maybe a few more hints would be great instead of having to rely on a wonky description you heard 5 minutes ago through your walkie talkie), suddently it gets spooky and then it turns into a waypoint simulator?

Sorry, but this was not what I expected at all.
I did not want to waste time trying to push through and force myself to "enjoy" it, because I really didn't.

Hm, yeah, solid entry in the Horizon series like usual. As per usual, good map, good physics, good graphics, runs well, nothing too broken, more than enough content, ... - I think you know these games by now.

The downside of it is just that it gets generic real fast. There is nothing special compared to the previous games, there is rarely something special between races itself and the open world activities are also always the same. They also kept the stupid story missions from Horizon 4 which I hated.

Combined with providing a lot of hours worth of content, it becomes draining to complete everything. I can't say I'm excited to start playing, neither am I excited for the next game in the series (however I'm probably still going to play it at some point).
They need to switch something up; the "make money and followers (rep)" strategy is just so old by now. You also get pretty high-end cars real fast, so making money to grind to better cars is also a useless/missing motivation, making races even more repetitive. Ugh.

So yeah, it's definitely a good game, albeit being repetitive. If it's your first time you'll probably enjoy it a lot, if you have played the previous games probably not so much.
Definitely only buy it on sale, take your time and don't dedicate yourself to 100% completing it.

It by the way also runs beautifully on Linux, which surprised me a little since this is a Microsoft game after all.

traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaans

Ok, so now that I have your attention - this game is beautiful.
I love the story & how it is told and the art style compliments it nicely.

It feels very rewarding to complete a level, although they could be a bit easier at some points (or at least have more checkpoints). There were a few times where I was stuck for ~30 minutes on one checkpoint and I had to take a break and try again the next day.
I did not use the assist mode but I appreciate it being an option - however I had the desire to complete the game without using it.
It took me ~12 hours to do so, while collecting 1/3 of all strawberries.
I have played with a Controller, btw.

Speaking of strawberries - I really appreciate the game explicitly telling you that collecting them is only useful for bragging to your friends. It made it easier for me to justify skipping a lot of them and to just enjoy the game.

Overall, 10/10 game, I loved nearly every second of it.
I can see why so many people play this game.
I'll 100% think back to some lessons I've learned from this game in the future. We should all try to be more like Madeline.

So, overall: This game is a steal for 5€ on sale, check it out,

Better than expected - although I wouldn't have the motivation to learn the mechanics of this game or keep grinding at all without playing together with friends who already have had experience.
I'd recommend playing with Vulkan on Linux, I had some graphic driver crashes with DX12 (AMD 7000 gen). I'm also running the latest Proton-GE version.

Good game with a seemingly confusing but in the end pretty deep story.
The gameplay has quite innovative elements, is never "too spooky" but always retains a good atmosphere.
Definitely a good buy for <6€ for ~2-2.5 hours of playtime from a smaller game studio.

Ooohh - this game is way better than I imagined it to be. Absolute steal for 15€ and amazing result for such a small team of devs.
It definitely still needs improvement but overall feels pretty polished. Good map selection, good weapon feel and nice balance between realism and arcade.
The only thing I dislike is the art style; even though I like this kind of style otherwise. It feels out of place in some maps - gigantic buildings with no interior other than an occasional bed, completely square big stones somewhere in the landscape, inconsistently decorated maps as a whole (some places in some maps just feel empty with the occasional hastily placed grass prop) and no lighting whatsoever.
Sometimes it is even difficult to recognize a wall in a tunnel because it has exactly the same color as the floor and is missing any and all shadows.

Overall this is a very good game though and I'd absolutely recommend to check it out - even to just support this small dev team for their amazing work.

Well... it isn't a bad game, especially not if bought during a sale, but it just didn't catch me.
I'm still going to recommend it as it is a well made game that is definitely worth checking out.
I might need to force myself to play a bit more, maybe I'll like the later gameplay more.
