Honestly more AA games should get some love instead of the usual triple-A ones

you dont need a game to be a "masterpiece" in order to be good, this one is certainly one of the good examples for that.

The devs were afraid of winning GOTY back in 2018 so they decided to add screwball`s challenges into the game

Obviously some spoilers below, fyi.

The dlc is, kind of inbetween short to medium in playtime length, difficulty scales based on how far you`ve come into the game/ just started the dlc after entering the vatican.

Regular DLC playthrough: 5, maybe 7 hours if you get stuck on puzzles and such.

And almost 10hrs if you decide to run around and collect every artifact, note, skillbook. and every picture to take.

I havent fully checked it out yet but i believe this dlc has the same old "archivist" achievement bug like in the basegame, so if you find a puzzle that lets you take multiple pictures for hints, do that. just incase so it`ll track correctly.

But anyways. i like the new enemy types, the dlc was more puzzles than combat, some new blunt melees, no new guns sadly but its no issue.

The humor and the quips in the cutscenes are just on par with the basegame, its kinda funny.

Summed up

The Good:

- interesting and sorta complex puzzles

- Level designed for the catacombs and tombs are neat

- Being able to play this no matter in what part of the story you`re in is much welcome, dlcs need more accessibility then this then to require a fresh save or whatever.

The Bad:

- If you completed the game and maxed out everything in skillbooks, this dlc is a pure cakewalk,

- Obviously this dlc is alot more better for those that just started playing, returning players that already completed most of the game gets left out wanting more.

- Going Stealthy is almost non-existant, enemy ai either wont engage you or will proceed to walk away after they`ve spotted you.

- While i didnt mind that the dlc was sort of its own thing while being somewhat connected next to the vatican, i was hoping for it to connect to the mysterious himalayas end credits scene in the game, maybe its for another DLC. or maybe its for the sequel which is still left ambiguous as of now.

- Personal nitpick but i wish completing the dlc wouldve given you a new outfit for indy, and its a bummer how the last crusade pack isnt available at any time in steam, but in xbox you can still cop it at any time youd like.

I love this game, hell i even unlocked everything. but i`ll have to give it a 7/10. its still fun nonetheless, but man. Somethings missing and i dont know what

if this is the first RE game you`ve played in a long time to return to the franchise, good for you.

however i will still cover the issues with this game

GAMEPLAY & STORY:

starting with the enemy variety, you literally only fight 4 enemy types, 5 if you really want to include the molded with the claw-like hands. but thats about it.

i also think the game itself has sort of a weak "replayability" thing going on. i just think its the pacing.
add that with the combat, while i do applaud that its not another disgruntlted military-trained character that we`re playing as. i still cant understand why ETHAN MOVES SO GODAMN SLOW. I MEAN LIKE CMON, AT THE START OF THE GAME OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE HE ZOOMS BY LIKE HE`S ON A MISSION. but when you enter it? slow like hes got scoliosis.

Ethan doesnt really have much depth other than whenever hes in a bossfight, outside of that its ehh.

the bossfights are.....unique, so to say. eveline`s was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i wont even sugarcoat that. the second and third jack fight is the only saving grace, marguerites` is just annoying. the whole scare factor of it wears off within the first 5 minutes, well atleast just for me

UNLOCKS:

the unlocks arent bad. but it wouldve been nice to have had the survival knife/crowbar as an unlock for finishing the story with ending 1 or 2. the walking shoes are a complete joke. it shouldve been renamed as "running shoes" and improved both the walking AND running speed for ethan. i highly recommend collecting every antique coin and destroying every mr.everywhere bobbleheads before playing madhouse, the scroll and essence of defense will carry you.

i didnt really bother doing the "finish the game in under 4 hours" challenge to unlock the circular saw, purely because ive lost appeal with replaying it, unless i ever reinstall the game and use some randomizer mod.

im thinking a 7/10. almost makes me wanna reinstall RE8 and RE4R

The game that started it all, even different video-game companies from this day have combat systems that are slightly samey/inspired by this franchise
