Early Access Review
I dunno what the deal is with this woman that people are complaining about in the reviews, but this game slaps so I guess she made the game good. Do these people not like good games? I understand it's because she's awake or something like that, not sure what that has to do with this game.

Game is very addictive and fun, and has been a great game to take on the go on my Steam Deck, works great on there, zero issues. I appreciate the challenge and trying to unlock more and get further. Also the ms paint looking placeholder images for the Epochs are charming, so that means the dev is actually putting in real art assets over time instead of using bogus AI "placeholder" crap to only actually replace it after they get caught, so that's pretty based.

Mommy's Best Games does it again! Nathan has a real ear for unique and fun indie games. I have been following ever since getting a review key for Pig Eat Ball which was a game I absolutely fell in love with, and Chainstaff does for action run and gun platformers what that game did for maze puzzle games and does a lot of interesting mechanics that I can't recall having seen in other games, at least in this particular way. The chainstaff is a really cool weapon that can also be used for other purposes like swinging, shield, platform, wedging, etc. It takes some getting used to the mechanics but feels really good when you get it. Also a killer art style that reminds me of the classic Heavy Metal magazines and a headbanging soundtrack. This is a must play!

W move of Pearl Abyss to offer this soundtrack download for free and have it be as expansive as it is. Usually when you do get a freebie like this it might only be like 3 or 4 songs. The music of the game certainly is an unsung hero, no pun intended, I'll have to definitely give it a listen when I'm too busy to visit Pywel.

High quality Vampire Survivors-like. The 1.0 update has lived up to the promise. It is a slower paced game overall than something like Brotato or Vampire Survivors and thus more chill but still has a lot of challenge. Great variety of spells, effects, and upgrades to experiment with to your taste. Even when there is so much stuff on screen that you can barely make anything out, it still performs pretty well. It'll cast a spell on you!

It's not fun which was to be expected, but it's also not funny. The joke seems to be a pretty deep cut.

There isn’t anything I played quite like this. It did have a fair bit of jank with the way combat works, it has pretty obtuse onboarding to introduce you to the mechanics of the game, and it can be pretty punishing early on. But if you have patience and the will to persevere you will find an excellent adventure that has a lot of unique mechanics that I would like to see others try their hand at. It is an easy recommendation especially when it is on sale. Coop is the way to go if you want to both ease the burden as well as share the experience with others.

Having a lot of fun with this, gives me that Left 4 Dead vibe with large sprawling maps that allow you to use vehicles, a good variety of objectives, and tons of enemies coming after you. The characters you play as are kinda phoned in stereotypes but you have a lot of customization with 4 classes with skill trees as well as weaponry you can modify and upgrade. Also replays of missions are kept fresh by changing up stuff like the location you spawn in, some of the objectives and optional objectives changing up, as well as the location of item drops. Pretty cool you can do drop in/drop out coop. You can play with just bots too, unfortunately they aren't great but they're competent enough to get the job done. Really dig the atmosphere and music.

Love Scott pilgrim vs the world and have always been very satisfied with Tribute Games in the past ever since the very first game I played of theirs, Mercenary Kings. Something is off with this. The combat and graphics are very polished and music is on point, everything is right for the game.

But clearly QA was not properly addressed. Encountered numerous progression related bugs with quests very early in the game failing despite doing exactly what was being asked. This includes issues in the final version that were not encountered in the demo. I’m confident they will eventually address these problems but for now I’d wait for them to patch it. Haven’t even been able to really put it through the wringer before encountering these issues. Several others are having the same issue on the Steam discussion posts so it is not an isolated thing.

An Absolute MUST PLAY for any fans of Resident Evil or action based survival horror in general. This game utterly impressed me with the gameplay, story, graphics, atmosphere, sound design, etc. I can't think of any real flaws that aren't just minor nitpicks with it. Both 1st and 3rd person modes play amazing and you won't have any regrets either way, I did the recommendations of 1st person for Grace and 3rd for Leon, but you can choose to your liking either way. The quality of animation is absolutely superb and this game looks stunning and happens to have probably the best performance for a game with ray tracing I've ever seen. This is easily the most ambitious game in the series ever and yet unlike 6 which was previously the most ambitious, actually pulled it off.

This is worth the full price, do not wait on a sale (unless you just have to because you can't afford the asking price). I can't wait to see what happens next in the Resident Evil universe, I think this game pulled off the feat of being something that classic fans and fans of the newer games alike can fully appreciate, and that is truly a rare thing to find in a series that's been around as long as this. I will be replaying it again soon to try to tie up achievements and unlocks and whatnot.
