“EVE is real.” That’s what they say. Real boring, real slow, real complicated — and somehow, I can’t stop playing it.
3,000+ hours since 2017. I’ve flown with Goonswarm, TEST, and a few other big-name space cults. I’ve seen the heights of nullsec empire-building and the depths of soul-crushing highsec boredom. And after all this time, I can confidently say:
I still barely understand this game.

Let’s start with the learning curve. EVE doesn’t have a curve — it has a cliff. With spikes. And it’s on fire. If you try to climb it solo, you’ll rage-quit after mining veldspar in a Venture for three hours and wondering what you’re doing with your life. The only way to scale it is to join a nullsec bloc and strap yourself to the backs of 4,000 other nerds with spreadsheets and Discord drama.

The skill system? Amazing and awful at the same time. Want to fly something cool? See you in two weeks. Want to make real ISK? Come back in six months. But hey — once you’ve trained the skills, you do feel like you’ve made progress. You didn’t do anything, of course. You just waited. But you waited like a pro.

Highsec? Yeah, it’s safe. Safe like a padded room. The ISK you make is a joke, the missions are sleep-inducing, and mining is basically clicking on a rock and waiting for your will to live to drain. But hey — at least no one's going to gank your Venture... unless it’s Tuesday.

Nullsec? Congratulations, you’re now part of a massive machine. You’ll make better ISK... by AFK ratting in a carrier while you watch YouTube, or risking your kids’ college fund in a Rorqual just to get dropped by 20 bombers. Thrilling. Unless you're actually logging in for PvP, where things can get exciting — if you’re willing to jump on voice every night, deal with fleet pings at 3AM, and listen to some guy yell "Anchor up!" like it’s a religion.

The truth is, EVE isn’t really a game — it’s a lifestyle. You don’t play it for fun. You play it for the stories — the betrayals, the heists, the massive battles where the server melts and you watch your ship die frame by frame. You play it because you made friends (or enemies) and now you’re weirdly invested in pretending you’re a space admiral while sitting in your pajamas.

It’s frustrating, it’s slow, it’s often absurd — but when EVE is good, it’s incredible. Just... be ready to hate it at least 50% of the time.
