You are aware, no doubt, of the current scandal in which a journalist was added to a discussion group of the National Security Advisor to lay out plans to bomb targets in Yemen. Former security officials screamed bloody murder but Pete Hegseth used the Trump playbook, attacking the journalist (who, of course, didn’t add himself to the group “chat”).
“You’re talking about a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes,” an uncharacteristically angry Hegseth said about (Atlantic Editor in Chief Jeffrey) Goldberg, a well-regarded Washington reporter and editor. “This is a guy who peddles in garbage.”
Uh, Mr. Hegseth, if this journalist is so deplorable, why did your staff have his contact information on file so as to be able to add him to the group? Shouldn’t only trustworthy journalists be on such lists?
Logic rarely comes into play with Trump statements and now statements by Trump appointees. Just label anyone you don’t like as a communist, or a socialist, or a peddler of fake news and move on. Reality need not be involved.
Oh, and Hegseth is a former Fox (sic) News host, a position in which all journalists he encountered peddled in garbage by company policy, so you’d think he would be an expert in identifying such, but apparently not.
But, But . . .
