In a surprise announcement in a January 7th interview in the New York Times (and repeated on the CBS television network), Mr. Trump said the following: “Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me,” when he was asked if there were any constraints on what he could do on the world stage.
This is a refutation of his oath of office in which he declared: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” (January 20, 2025)
It is the Constitution which establishes and delineates the powers of the Office of the President and by repudiating those delineations, Mr. Trump has effectively abdicated his office.
With deliberate speed Vice-president Vance needs to be sworn in as the 48th President of the United States so we are not rudderless at the helm.
And, of course, any further proclamations, executive orders, or other official sounding pronouncements coming from Mr. Trump are null and void now that he has left office. And no amount of backpedaling by the White House staff can reduce the damage here. What are they going to claim? Trump didn’t mean what he said, he just lost his mind? Hello, 25th Amendment!

White Christian Nationalists say all kinds of things which are actually true, correct, what have you, but then they lard what they say with lies
Ah, the Bible, and Christian precepts, oh my! Then what is, for example, the Old Testament (OT) punishment for blasphemy, I ask? Let’s see … here it is … death by stoning (Leviticus 24:16). And blasphemy according to the Bible primarily refers to speaking or acting in a way that shows contempt or disrespect for God, claiming to be God, insulting God’s name or character, or attributing the works of God to evil forces.
So, the OT doesn’t support free speech as we know it.
Ah, but there are Christians who claim that the OT was superseded by the New Testament (NT). So, I ask, what does Jesus say about blasphemy? According to Matthew 12:31-32, Jesus identified blasphemy against the Spirit as an unforgivable sin. And an unforgiveable sin lands you in Hell forever and ever, amen, when you die, no?
The Apostle Paul says something contradictory about blasphemy (see 1 Timothy 1:20) but can you name any utterance of Jesus that Paul does not contradict?
So, the NT doesn’t support free speech as we know it, either. I wonder what Special Bible these people study?
These Christian Nationalists, it is almost redundant to call them White Christian Nationalists, all claim that the U.S. Constitution was built around “Christian principles” or in Carlson’s case “Christian precepts,” you know: free speech, free practice of religion, elections, one man, one vote, representative government with “No Kings,” and so on. Actually the only commonality I can see between the U.S. Constitution (as originally written and adopted) and Christian theocracies, is both supported slavery with little equivocation. The Christian belief that “all men are born in the image of God” lead to Africans being classified as being subhuman, that is to not be men, or even human, so they could be enslaved with no guilt.
Fuck them … and the horses they rode in on.
