A Brief Word…..

August 10, 2008

…..yeah, the revolution will not be televised. Indeed, there looks to be no revolution. With Barky calling for a non-vote Democratic Convention, he won’t get that predicts I, and McSame being…well, more of the same I suppose you could vote for Nader or Barr but neither are viable let’s face it. Sister Beezlebub still has a shot moreso every time Barky sticks his foot in his mouth and hops around going Uh…Uh…Muh! Currently the Bark-O-Meter has him at 1.5 hops per week. But enough of the cheap shots.

The real problem sits on ‘The HIll’ like a horrific knot of toads in human form. 535 elected representatives of the people.

Or not.

Yep, in situation, after issue, compounded by crisis we see that the legislative branch of our government is stuffed to the gills with folks who are one of three things:

Corrupt…the biggest faction. Politicians are trained early that it’s all about the Benjamins as our ‘system’ rewards those who get elected and under the current system you need lots of B’s to get elected…

Stupid…plenty of those after all if you’re buying a Congressperson you don’t need one that’s smart. Just one that loves to follow orders.

Nuts….Yeah, barking mad. These are the ones found in a hotel room with hookers and coke or an underage boy. Significant fraction….

So what to do. First up is very simple.

Get real.

Understand that the level of corruption is now at unprecedented levels. Levels no mere change in ‘party’ will fix. The job is a wholescale clean up similar to Hercules and the Augean Stables. Ever read that one? You should it’s not really about what it seems. Yeah, get real. No one candidate is going to ‘save’ us folks. Most adults realize reality don’t work that way but….

People want to believe.

Well…

Believe this.

If you and I don’t get off our asses and take back our government the future will be very bleak. The tipping point on many problems affecting our very survival as a society is near. I assert that the tools to fix those problems which threaten us most are also hand. Requiring only affordable amounts of money and some intelligent leadership. But with a government composed of the corrupt, the stupid and the barking mad we are not going to be able to use those tools.

What to do?

Look around join up with like minded folks. Stop talking and start doing. You will be noticing some changes around here as I ‘renovate’ my new primary residence. And no I don’t care what the Congressional mortgage lending ‘bail out’ bill says, it’s amazingly stupid go look it up, about how to treat ‘primary’ vs. ‘secondary’ residences.

One signpost to a new way is the widget in the upper right sidebar called: ‘Accountability Money Bomb’.

This takes you to a spot where you can contribute to a fascinating group headed by Jane Hamscher and a bunch of right wing folks. Yep, wingers and progressives…together. Seems there is common cause to be made by all Americans in the face of the Congress’s gutting the 4th Amendment. Here is the link to the statement of purpose from StrangeBedFellows the ad hoc group just beginning to get some traction. I will be blogging about this more as the idea of ‘Accountability for the Asylum (Congress)’ resonates with me.

Hope you will hang around as I am planning some extensive remodeling here and I hope you will find it interesting.

The Great 9/11 Contradiction

September 12, 2007

There have been hundreds of blog entries on the 6th anniversary of 9/11. This is part of what I find is a great contradiction. While our “leaders” use the events of 9/11/2001 to justify their often criminal actions, these same people expect us to simply accept their explanations of what happened that day: “stop asking questions you conspiracy nuts”. So they want to keep using 9/11 at the same time they are wishing it would go away.

Well, it’s not going away. Sifting thru dozens of 9/11 posts leads me and many others to conclude that “the truth will out”. Many people that have accepted the “official conspiracy theory” for years are starting to discover the truth. From various polls it appears that over 50% of the people in the US have serious questions about the “official story”. These people are unified in recognizing the need for a new 9/11 investigation.

Unfortunately, this is another case of the people being way ahead of most of our “representatives” in congress. There are a few exceptions like Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul (see the patriotsquestion911.com link below). We are going to have to work hard to get a new investigation, but it is essential to the future of our country and the world that this crime be exposed.

‘Tribute of Light’ Tonight in New York City.

September 11, 2007

Sept 11th NYC 2007

I only have one thing to say. It’s a question for you reader.

When will the Bush administration be held accountable for their complicity in the events of September 11, 2001?

‘If you care about what you are doing….sometimes you have to stand up and fight.

June 28, 2007

Dead perfect framing by Senator Edwards. ‘Crazies….’ yeah, John. I like that. Plus shifting the ground to ‘ while they tell these lies it makes it very difficult to talk about people’s lives….’

And….

‘they used to do this in the South…saying the most debased things about people who just happened to be afro-american.

‘We have to fight back….’

As to ReichWinger Coulter a true ‘conservative’ here’s what the MSNBC poll shows.

Keep up the good work Ann.

If you want to contribute to John Edwards campaign and really give Ol’ Ann a cramp in her ‘style’ here’s the spot to do so.

Brzezinski, the CFR and real influence (updated)

May 21, 2007

Zbigniew Brzezinski

Update #1: more information has been added re: Zbig’s involvement with the current Director of National Security, Robert Gates, as well as Gates’ history in the CIA and the Iran/Contra scandal.

An interesting part of our conversation at the most recent Drinking Liberally Oakland Sunday brunch touched on some of the organizations and individuals who wield extraordinary control over our federal government, inasmuch as there are “outsiders” who affect both our domestic and foreign policy. One of the key figures is introduced here: Zbigniew Brzezinski (Jimmy Carter’s former National Security Adviser, as well as a former adviser to the Kennedy and Johnson administrations on Eastern European and Soviet affairs).

Following is an interesting interview with Andreas Von Buelow, a former German Minister of Technology, regarding some of the origins of the policies which brought us 9/11.

I would also like to encourage you to look into the 1997 book by Zbigniew Brzezinski, entitled “The Grand Chessboard.” On pages 210 – 211, ‘Zbig’ says:

[…] the critical uncertainty regarding the future may well be whether America might become the first superpower unable or unwilling to wield its power. Might it become an impotent global power? Public opinion polls suggest that only a small minority (13 percent) of Americans favor the proposition that “as the sole remaining superpower, the U.S. should continue to be the preeminent world leader in solving interantion problems.” An overwhelming majority ((74 percent) prefer that America “do its fair share in efforts to solve international problems together with other countries.” Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may find it more difficult to fasion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstance of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat. Such a consensus generally existed throughout World War II and even during the Cold War. It was rooted, however, not only in deeply shared democratic values, which the public sensed were being threatened, but also in a cultural and ethnic affinity for the predominantly European victims of hostile totalitarianism.

In the absense of a comparable external challenge, American society may find it much more difficult to reach agreement regarding foreign policies that cannot be directly related to central beliefs and widely shared cultural-ethnic sympathies and that still require an enduring and sometimes costly imperial engagement. If anything, two extremely varying views on the implications of America’s historic victory in the Cold War are likely to be politically more appealing: on the one hand, the view that the end of the Cold War justifies a significant reduction in Ameirca’s global standing; and on the other, the perception that the time has come for genuine international multilateralism, to which America should even yield some of its sovereignty. Both extremes command the loyalty of committed constituencies.

Let’s keep in mind that Zbig has been a player in the field of international policy for ~40 years. He is a long time member of the
uber-secretive Council on Foreign Relations (the non-Commonwealth countries’ counterpart to the Royal Institute of International Affairs). He was also a founding member of the Trilateral Commission (the more public iteration of the CFR). He was also the one who identified Jimmy Carter as a potential Presidential candidate to the Rockefellers, several years before his first run, after which time they poured unprecedented resources into his campaign. Don’t forget to look into the connections between the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds. Talk about power, money and control.

Lest anyone think I am unduly targeting a member of a former Democratic administration, one of Zbig’s associates at the CFR, Robert Gates. He was also the co-chairs of the task force which produced a 2004 publication, entitled: Iran: Time for a New Approach (Report of an Independent Task Force Sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations). In addition to Gates’ current position as GWB’s Secretary of Defense, he is also a former Director of the CIA agent (he was recruited to join the Agency while still attending Indiana University), as well as a rather “questionable figure” in the Iran/Contra scandal.

In that vein, we need to look at the manner in which these two both worked to facilitate the creation of the Mujahadeen, which was the precursor to the Taliban and, subsequently the father organization to [“very scary”] al Qaeda (oh, my).

When it comes to setting the table for future operations, here is another great article from a researcher I respect, Michel Chossudovsky at Global Research. Please note:

Amply documented, but rarely mentioned in 9/11 news reports, the “Islamic Militant Network” (the forerunner of Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda), was actually created during Jimmy Carter’s presidency (1976-1981). In July 1979, Carter signed a presidential directive to launch a secret plan in support of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. Confirmed by former CIA director, Robert Gates, in his book, From the Shadows, this “secret plan” was instrumental in triggering the Soviet-Afghan war. (Robert Gates, From the Shadows: The Ultimate Insider’s Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War, http://www.gtexts.com/worthreading/gates.html ).

Most American high school history books describe how the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, “without provocation and with overwhelming force”. America then “came to the rescue” of the Afghan “resistance”. This happened under president Jimmy Carter.

Yet Carter’s National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski confirms that it was the US and not the Soviet Union which started the war:

“According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention….” (Interview with Zbigniew Brzezinski, Le Nouvel Observateur, 15-21 November 1998.)

We must always ask, “cui bono?” (Who benefits?)

The 9/10 President

March 22, 2007

The 9/10 President is an article Malcontent suggested I read.  I did and thought it was both interesting and insightful.  Above, I provide a link to the PDF file of the article, and below are a couple highlights…

The disturbing truth is that Bush’s domestic agenda has not only made the nation less prosperous and less fair, it has also made it less safe.”

What ought to be obvious but has somehow escaped public attention is that Bush’s top priorities are not new spending on homeland security but the same conservative aims that animated him before September 11, 2001. The traditional conservative view of government spending celebrates military outlays while disparaging pretty much everything else. And, despite the lip service it pays to homeland security, the Bush administration continues to view spending through that prism.”

Indeed, it is in Bush’s interest to engineer showdowns with Congress over spending, in order to connect growing deficits in the public’s mind with profligate spenders in Congress rather than with tax cutters in the White House.”

the administration seems to view his wartime popularity as a massive bank of political capital from which they can withdraw and spend on other, unrelated causes. In the short run, this strategy is a political boon for Bush and his party. But, in the long run, it divides and weakens the nation against its external threats.”

Rudy Giuliani … up in flames

March 9, 2007

The New York Daily News is reporting today that the FDNY and former Mayor Giuliani are “at odds” (heh) with each other over both his insensitive treatment of first responders in the immediate aftermath of 9/11/2001 [inside job] and his cold-shoulder withdrawal from this year’s International Association of Fire Fighters forum.

Rudy really cannot afford too much bad news in his quest for the GOP nomination. His checkered past reads much like a passenger-side mirror on your car: objects are closer than they appear. For more of this R-rated story, check out the 27-page excerpt from the massive 450-page study conducted for the Giuliani campaign in 1993 (c/o smokinggun.com) entitled, “RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI VULNERABILITY STUDY.” The document is very entertaining, as it lists some of the many, MANY vulnerabilities of this candidate. A selection from the Smoking Gun:

“The confidential 450-page report, authored by Giuliani’s research director and another aide, was the campaign’s attempt to identify possible lines of attack against Giuliani and prepare the candidate and his staff to counter “the kinds of no-holes-barred assault” expected in a general election rematch with Democratic incumbent David Dinkins. As he tried to win election in an overwhelmingly Democratic city, Giuliani needed “inoculating against” the “Reagan Republican moniker,” the vulnerability study reported. “The Giuliani campaign should emphasize its candidate’s independence from traditional national Republican policies.” The final six words of that sentence are underlined in the study.”

Here’s something to keep in mind from the preface of the study, itself:

“The readers of this vulnerability study are urged not to dismiss or take lightly any of the negatives discussed in this document. Taken together, the negative issues presented in this study offer a compelling argument against electing Giuliani mayor.Rudy Giuliani has plenty of inoculating to do on several fronts. Most notably, Giuliani is vulnerable on his Republican Party affiliation, his participation in the police rally, his flip-flops on various issues, the reversals of many of his major convictions and his reputation for overzealousness.”

Oh, wait. I didn’t even get to any of the good parts…

MARRIAGE/DIVORCE: Giuliani’s personal life raises questions about a “weirdness factor.” Giuliani was married to his second cousin for fourteen years. Although the marriage lasted for a long time, Giuliani had the union annulled on the grounds that he did not get the proper dispensation from the church for the marriage. When asked about his personal life, Giuliani gives a wide array of conflicting answers. All of this brings the soundness of his judgement into questions — and the veracity of his answers.”…

DRAFT DODGER: Giuliani received special treatment from a friendly federal Judge to avoid military service during the Vietnam War when thousands of less fortunate people were dying. Then, as a member of the Justice Department, he hypocritically prosecuted draft dodgers.

While many of his classmates and friends were risking their lives on foreign soil, Giuliani used his connections to obtain an occupational deferment. After serving in the ROTC until being rejected for physical reasons, Giuliani sought a deferment in 1968 and was rejected. A year later, the draft board received a letter from federal Judge Lloyd MacMahon, and Giuliani receive what experts consider a rare occupational deferment. (New York Post, 6/11/1989)”

Check in out more of the Smoking Gun excerpts from the 1993 study for yourself.

WTC 7 substantially reinforced…in 1989

March 5, 2007

I just found this interesting February 1989 story on World Trade Center Building 7 from the NY Times (c/o 911blogger.com). The story addresses how Larry “pull it” Silverstein’s building was modified and reinforced to accommodate requests by Salomon Brothers, the new anchor tenant for several double-height floors. This required multi-multi-million dollar upgrades to the building’s super-structure and infrastructure. See an excerpt below (my emphasis added):

We built in enough redundancy to allow entire portions of floors to be removed without affecting the building’s structural integrity, on the assumption that someone might need double-height floors,” said Larry Silverstein, president of the company. ”Sure enough, Salomon had that need.

”And there were many other ways that we designed as much adaptability as possible into the building because we knew that flexible layout is important to large space users.”

Nearly 2,000 people will be working on the retrofit project during the peak period. The cost, which is estimated at $200 million – not including carpeting, furniture and other office equipment – will come out of Salomon’s pocket.

”We made a landlord contribution to the work,” Mr. Silverstein said, ”but Salomon’s costs will go well beyond that contribution by many, many times.”

MORE than 375 tons of steel – requiring 12 miles of welding – will be installed to reinforce floors for Salomon’s extra equipment. Sections of the existing stone facade and steel bracing will be temporarily removed so that workers using a roof crane can hoist nine diesel generators onto the tower’s fifth floor, where they will become the core of a back-up power station.

To help shuttle Salomon employees between floors, construction crews are adding two escalators and four elevators inside the tower. And to help adjust the floor layouts to Salomon’s needs, workers are moving sections of the tower’s ”core” area, which includes pipes up to two feet in diameter and air-handling equipment the size of delivery trucks.

”This is the first time I’ve every seen such dramatic interior changes being made in a new building,” said Irwin G. Cantor, structural engineer for the project. ”And the whole world is watching.”

Isn’t it interesting how such an over-engineered building could have just…fallen down. Oh well, I guess shit happens.
